The Witcher 3 Benchmarks

I got to oxenfort(one of the citys),the LoD is trash, stuff in the city over 20 meteres or so away looked flat and blurry as hell. Was majorly dissapointed :(

Switched from a 780 to a 970 and performance is significantly better / smoother @ 1080P

GTX 780 @ 1150 Core / 6500 Mem

Foliage Distance - High
Shadows - High
Everything else ultra

50-60FPS fluctuations and sometime slightly lower in populated villages

GTX 970 @ 1500 Core (mem stock, only spent 2 mins OCing, will see later how far I can go)

Foliage Density - High
Everything else ultra

Absolute locked 60FPS, no fluctuations, no dips and also feels significantly smother. So gained about 10FPS + allowed ultra shadows.

Only using an i3 4330 too which seems to be coping fine and no bottleneck. I have got a 4790K on the way and will see if that allows better performance.

This game runs like dog crap for me.

Titan Black SLI @ 4k. Right now I am running a 8 core 2ghz Xeon waiting on a board replacement for my 3970x but yeah, total dog doos. Even at medium settings I'm barely making 25 FPS.

Hoping it's my CPU at fault but GTAV and PCars run lovely with my rig.

Lol, Should have stuck to your 4k beliefs.

I think there is more to it than the tessellation though as the 290/290x have weaker tess. performance yet they are performing better.

I was thinking the same. The 780/780 ti should have slightly better tesselation performance then the r9 series if im not totally mistaken. Feel free to correct me if im wrong..

Tessellation can be turned down on the AMD cards using CCC. You can't do that on Nvidia (yet!).

You are correct that the 780/780Ti have significantly better tessellation performance.

To be frankly honest guys I think this is just a case of Nvidia derping their old cards to try and dupe people into buying new cards.

I've heard that older drivers actually work better than the one they released on Monday. Whether this is true remains to be seen, but I don't think it's the hardware at fault here I think it's simply bad drivers and a bad game.

Hopefully in time this will be sorted out.

Apparently HairWorks is very over-tessellated. According to AMD it could be turned down from x64 to x16 with little difference, gave it a try and i agree with them. Nvidia will probably "fix" it in a new driver. Nvidia are digging a hole, but so is AMD with the lackluster driver support.

They did it on purpose. Apparently the Gameworks driver made performance even worse.

If I were on say a pair of 670s or something like that I would be tempted to upgrade. If I hadn't seen far better looking games running along at 60 FPS I would question my hardware but in this instance it's just a bad game.

It sucks, but it happens. I said it before but I truly believe that Tomb Raider is every bit as good looking as this and even with Tress FX on it runs like butter.

The Witcher 2 was the same. When it launched I remember it run like poo on my GTX 470. Problem was the only upgrade at the time was a GTX 480. Nothing better existed.

Nvidia have been pulling some really dirty stunts lately and this is just another one of them. Thankfully I have the rather excellent GTAV to keep me busy.

As a wise man said to me on these very forums "the game looks very average on quad SLI TXs".

If this is the best the game devs have got, they are having a laugh.:D

Yeah I've only got a 970 but the game runs like a dog at 4K on any settings.

Does the game still run like crap with hairworks turned off on Kepler cards?

Yes, running a singe titan and seriously struggling at 1440p to maintain 60fps. AA is off, the demanding settings (foliage and shadows) are on medium and the rest on high.

Can anyone else with Kepler cards rollback to 350.12 and test performance? I recently did and think it's slightly better however it might just be a placebo effect.

CDPR: NVIDIA we're a few months to release and the game is performing great on a wide range of cards!

NVIDIA: What even on AMD and Kepler cards?

CDPR: Yes, great for all consumers right?

NVIDIA: NO! We're trying to sell new graphics cards remember! Put Hairworks on that baby and turn Tessellations to the MAX. We're so 1337 btw

CDPR: But Hairworks breaks the game :(

NVIDIA: NP we'll take care of you for that :D

lol. +1 :o

We're investigating this reported issue. I'll drop by with more info as soon as I can.

I have a horrible feeling your next bit of info will be "It'll be ready when it's ready" or "I can't talk about unreleased hardware/software"...

Maybe it's just what I've come to expect from Vendor Reps on here...

:)
