The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Has anyone else noticed or mentioned the fact that a few of the screams are pretty much sound files from the first command and conquer?

I was watching my dad play this yesterday and it was so choppy it was unreal. I checked his settings and he was running everything on ultra including hairworks on a 6870 :O

I asked him to put on his afterburner overlay and sure enough the game was running at 10-15fps.

I changed all his settings to medium and switched off hairworks and AA and 720p now its a solid 60fps all round and he says he can't tell the difference.
The worst part is he has been playing at 10-15fps for 73 hours :O

On another note the game does seem epic when I was playing it on a 100" projector screen :)

I love the music in this game, the story is great and I thought it was coming to the end when you travel to a certain place but 15 hours later there's still quite a fair bit of story stuff to do

LOL! 73 hours at 10 fps?!??!?!?

It really is a lot of fun. At the start anyway, I've got so many good cards that its just too easy to win now :(

This. Would be nice to have a online matchmaking with gwent tournaments or something like that to really make it challenging. Could take it to a whole new level. Though, this will never happen :(.

There needs to be a limit on how many special cards you can use for a start.

Tbh though, even with every Gwent card collected, I still found the odd challenge. You couldn't afford to make a mistake in any game at times.

Anyone know how to eliminate that strange wobble effect while fighting (the terrain seems to be jumping around in the backround when I attack enemies) and it's annoying as hell, also is there anyway to smooth out the mouse? It feels clunky especially when riding Roach.

*It hasn't got anything to do with microstutter/stutter as it plays out the same in single and SLI.*

Finding this game OK so far, but annoying.

I was struggling to kill anything at first, but by level 3 I could own the White Orchard Griffin easily and had completed quests that had a far higher level recommendation. I did all of the side quests and treasure hunts in that area before moving on with the game. So I went to see the emporer dude and then headed out to carry on the story in Velen.

But now - almost without fail - every monster is at least level 10 (I am level 4) and has a skull on it's health bar and pretty much kills me in one hit. Even the bandits and deserters are level 7-10. I can cope with the level 7 ones (just about) but I don't seem to be able to scratch anything that is level 10, even with an upgraded silver viper sword and a powerful relic steel sword. There was a bug where a level 10 drowner was standing still and I could attack him and he would then try and counter but it would not chase me. I would do damage but once I got it's health to 50% I barely did any damage after that and it took me over 5 mins of constant igni + attack, retreat and recharge, igni + attack etc before I killed it. It was like it almost became immune to my attacks once it lost 50% of health.

So now after feeling like I have started to progress I have gone straight back to square 1. Every location bar 1 that I have tried to explore in the opening areas of Velen has had some bad ass level 10 enemies or, as in the case of one of the areas, an army of little dudes that just swarm you and kick your ass :(

Just makes it feel like the game is forcing me to go down the path of the main story which is breaking the fun for me. Not really played Witcher games before but I much prefer how games like Skyrim use levelled enemies based on your character stats. Whilst I can see the merits of using higher levelled enemies in the way W3 does, without any real way of developing my character other than XP grinding I think it is flawed in it's implementation.

There are a number of side-quests, main story & notice board contracts you can do once you enter the first main area. Also, some parts of the map are higher average level than the others.

If you wonder off in the wrong direction you will come against much higher level creatures. (stay around cross-roads & the bloody barons castle at first).

I agree that it's a little to 'fixed' into difficulty & a scaling system would make more sense - but they wanted you to go back to certain areas at different times. The bigger issue is that there is no way to find out what the 'average level' requirement is for a given area in advance.

It puts me off the entire game to be honest. I don't want an easy ride but I want to have a chance. By making exploring near impossible at low level they have completely nerfed a large part of what this type of game is supposed to be about (adventuring/exploring) as well as put a large tick in the 'linear' box.

I don't really want to have to keep going back to places. I find that kind of game mechanic becomes tedious very quickly.

On a side note - I only realised yesterday that you can change your sign spells with the mouse wheel. Hah! It was a revelation I tell thee! :D

How is it nerfed? If you prepare well, look up monsters in the bestiary and practice you can easily take out monsters 10 levels higher than you.

Hell, all I did for first 50 hours on Death March was simply explore. If I found something at like a guarded treasure I couldn't do a lick of damage to, then I'd move on. Knowing that it's been marked on my map for later.

If you don't want to go back to places this is the wrong game entirely. As mentioned before the zones are typical RPG level 3-15. They're somewhat dynamic; with some areas quests and people not appearing until you've done something else, or even the time of day has changed.

The only thing somewhat linear is the main story, but even that has so many branches and side branches that branch off; that even the main story can differ in many ways for others.

At level 33 I still fine amazing challenges while exploring, like the video I posted a level ?? Archgriffin. He must easily be over level 40 for his level not to register and it took experimenting with different decoctions, potions and skills to take him down effective. Especially since 1 direct hit is insta death, and glance was 4/5ths of my health gone.

This is all in an area that's usually level 16.

I love the challenge, although I realise some might not like it. I can't get enough.
What I would like is if the main storyline's part scaled by level, as I really don't want them to become trivial.

In my game, Bestiary entries do not populate until after I have killed the type of creature, with the exception of Noonwraith, Ghouls and Drowners. For example in Velen - I have encountered a spider crab thing, an Alghoul and a swarm Foglets but none of them were in my bestiary. I think the Foglet got added as I killed a couple of them before they overpowered me though. In White Orchard I was struggling with a bear and went to the Bestiary to look it up. It wasn't there. Managed to kill it and got a notification to say the Bestiary info now added!

Not much use after I have already figured out how to kill it with trial and error lol

I carry 6 bombs (2 of each Samum, Grapeshot and Dancing Star) a crossbow with armour pericing bolts, a viper silver sword and a powerful relic steel sword, Swallow potions and Thunderbolt Potions + a variety of foods. Not sure how much more prepared I can be to be honest. But being honest I have just realised I havent taken a Thunderbolt potion since the Griffin fight. Could be part of the reason I am struggling to do any damage! lol. Will try tonight against an Alghoul and see what happens. Although from memory the damn thing kept healing itself when I fought it last time so even with Thunderbolt I'll probably get shafted :p

But I am sure I am not the only one who feels the level system is a little messed up?

You can get plenty of entries from simply opening books in the game, you don't even need to read them really. Just right click em.

Hmm, I remember getting entries simply for taking on enemies in the beginning. I wonder if they changed it somewhat so you have to defeat them now. Also talking to villagers about witcher contract notices and asking as many questions as possible can add entries.

Also yes, potions and oils are essential for monster hunting. Many times you can figure out what oil to use simply based on the oil name and the look of the enemy.

Also with Alghouls they have these massive spikes that come out, best way to counter that is to use Axii, which charms and calms them like your horse. Once they calm for a few seconds they retract their spikes.

Check out all the books, and notes, and especially herbalists and alchemists; as they sell oil and potion recipes and upgrades.

The fact that you can now swap and use potions and oils in the middle of combat can makes things really easy.

Also as you upgrade bombs, and potions from normal to enhanced and so on you can carry more. So from 2-3 and so on. Plus they get extra little bonuses; for instance if you have Superior Thunderbolt and use it during a thunder storm, you get 100% crit chances.

Also since you're fighting a an alghoul aka necrophage, see if you have the Black Blood potion. If you do, any undead takes damage if they damage you.
Also fire, lots of fire. Dancing stars, igni and anything else. :D

Edit: I completely agree on the leveling system. Only skills you move into the little slots are usable, so sometimes you have to waste 10-15 points just to get the skill you want.

Thanks for the info. I have had a couple of additions from books so far, but I stole and read a ton from the Emporers palace but didn't appear to get anything added. I have a ton of stuff in my inventory - so I will look into necrophage oil and Black Blood. I don't think I have any upgraded diagrams for improving bombs or anything else yet.

In general I pick up everything in an area before moving on as my character seems to be able to carry an insane amount of stuff. I don't know why, but when I think of Geralt dragging about all of this junk I just think:

lol :D

This game is incredible. Just did Last Wish quest and then went to Kaer Morhen, mind blown at the beauty everywhere. Everything is so well written, every character. In 20 years of gaming this is best game I have ever played, combining everything I love in one package - beautifully written reactive story with choices and consequences, huge detailed beautiful world packed with atmosphere, action combat that feels snappy and responsive, quest design that has no equal. 10/10

I have found the consequences to be a little flawed and basically boil down to an either/or scenario.

For example:

In the first bar you go into in Velen as part of the main quest some mercs come in and you get timed reposnses. I saved just before talking to the bar tender so replayed that section using various responses. It boils down to fight them or don't fight them which I was a bit disappointed with.

So I kind of cheated. I didnt fight them so stayed friends with the Barman. I then went outside and slaughtered the Baron's men unprovoked, as well as the mercs that came running out of the bar :D

Oh little tip, keep any books related to religion. It's not vital, but they're useful in the area where I took on level 40 something griffin.

Also Saddlebags, roach technically carries everything and you can increase the weight with better bags.

Although I'm at the point where I have soooo much crafting reagents I'm constantly at 130 weight.

Is this game playable with the latest nvidia drivers? Also, is sweetFx working?

I have no issues in regards to NV drivers in the game, more so the game patches themselves breaking the game at parts.

I can't comment on SweetFX as I removed it because it classes with other software that needs to hook into the game. Like Dxtory, fraps, OBS, MSI Afterburner and the like.
