The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Played for another 4hrs or so last night. So far I have put maybe 8-9 hours into Velen and I am barely scratching the surface. Every time I head out to a new quest marker I end up doing 10 other things that catch my eye along the way! lol :p

I fought my first group of Endrega Workers last night, including a Warrior. Probably about 6 workers + warrior. Took a few attempts as I didnt have the ingredients for insectoid oil :( Got there in the end though, but the loot they were protecting just wasn't worth the effort!

I am getting annoyed with the loot bugs though in regard to saves. I have lost tons of useful stuff because I have saved after a fight before looting the corpses then been killed shortly after. When I reload, all the corpses have gone, and their loot with them :( For example, when fighting the Endegra I killed the workers and backed off to save as the warrior wasn't active as an enemy yet. Didn't loot the worker bodies and fought the warrior. Got killed. Reloaded and all the lootable workers corpses had gone :( So I had to replay the entire section again from an earlier save.

Also, there appears to be bugs in collecting ingredients. I have been picking up tons of stuff as I run about, but as I have checked through my inventory a lot of it is missing. For example puff ball plants. Collected loads over the last few days, but when I checked my inventory I only had like 3, and as far as I know I hadn't sold any or used any for alchemy....... Anyone else have this?

With approximately 16hrs invested in the game is it worth updating to more recent patches? I am currently just running the 1.02 patch that was required to get the game working. Will it kill my saves if I patch it?

Does anyone know if the diagram bugs have been fixed for bombs? I didn't craft the basic Dragon's Dream but collected an upgraded diagram. Now I can't craft it as I dont have the basic bomb which is required as part of the 'ingredients'.

Killed my first Wyvern last night too. I don't know if it is a bug or part of the level setting I am playing on, but I am definitely not getting Bestiary entries until after I kill the monster/beast.

I am getting more into this game as the time passes but so far I am just feeling like the scenery is all the same. Fields and trees with horse trails and the odd bit of water or wetland but nothing epic. I appreciate I am very early into the game so I have my fingers crossed for some better scenery in other 'countries' but at the moment I just feel like it is all grass, trees and wooden huts. Nothing has made me go wow yet.

Found an Alcohest and Dwarvern Spirit gold mine last night though - A bandit camp with maybe 8-10 enemies and tons of lootable objects - pretty much every one gave an Alcohest or Dwarven Spirit. Whoo hoo!

tl;dr

Save bugs where lootable bodies disappear on reloading - annoying!

Any fix for the bomb bug where collecting an updated diagram does not allow you to create the basic form of the bomb if you didnt make it before picking up the advanced diagram?

Bug in collecting alchemy ingredients - a lot of the stuff I know I have picked up is missing - even though I havent used it or sold it. Anyone else having this?

Worth updating to 1.05? (I am currently running just 1.02 but don't want to upgrade if it will cause issues with my saves).

Getting into the game a lot more now, but a bit bored of the scenery. Velen and White Orchard is all just grass, trees and wood huts. Does it get better? I hope so.

Played for quite a bit last night, working my way through quests and finally getting to meet Zoltan. I also finished up on some Witcher contracts but have a lot to do.

Firstly after this playthrough it was clear to see that the levelling system and XP distribution needs to be looked at. For the most part players will struggle if they're focusing on secondary and treasure hunt quests but the moment they do a primary one - XP is thrown at you. I haven't been to Skeleleigi yet but last nights main quest that I did do threw me from Lv12 to 17 in no time at all. This meant that I outleveled a heap of secondary quests (that I had been saving up) through just 15 minutes of work.

In addition the vendor loot capacity needs to be looked at because I am struggling. I have so much crap on me (armour and weapons) and I can't sell these to any smiths on the map because they're all out of cash. I am always encumbered and having meditated for what seems like days on end has not reset their cash reserves. I don't want to look mods but that 'Wealthy vendors' mod is looking tempting.

BuffetSlayer - I'd update your game to the latest asap. The updates fix a TON of bugs and you will encounter a few of them if you don't. Better to do it early on in whilst you've not spent much time in the game.

Yeah, I got to the point where I only did side quests that sounded interesting and main story.

Witcher contracts started getting way too boring.

The contracts always had something to look forward to at the end at least since you knew it was gonna be a boss fight.

Its a bit difficult to keep working on the side quests though. So many of them are white in the quest log because there are just so many to do that you can't do them in any sort of sensible order to make them challenging.

I'm hoping for a newgame+ mode or something where everything in the game is scaled based off max level and the difficulty of monsters is a bit more tailored towards how dangerous they should be and not complete pushovers cos I happened to hit the next tier of items before fighting them.

im not sure your ever meant to pick up everything in the game, yes you can do it but you don't really need to. i just go for the special looking stuff and leave the common junk.

I have stopped looting from bandits now. When you start stacking up large amounts of crafting materials you start to hover around 100/160 without any actual loot. It gets to the point when you realise that looting loads of swords, axes and maces worth 10 crowns each isn't a valuable use of your time. Particularly when the only 2 reliable shopkeepers (meaning, will be there in the middle of the night when I always seem to end up needing a shop!) are the 2 in the Barons Castle who take a minute each way to reach from the nearest fast travel point.

Will it affect my saves though? I don't want to have to start all over again if my saves get killed in the process.

I am also struggling to offload gear. I get next to nothing for the stuff I do sell, and the vendors usually have only around 300 on them. For example, a sword worth 500 bags me something stupid like 30 if I sell it :(

I am not getting over encumbered but I haven't managed to get over 1000 in my pocket yet. Mostly I hover around the 300 mark until I have to replenish, then walk away with 0. Water and food is ridiculously expensive for some reason. I think a single skin of water is costing me something like 27.

also, as I found out last night, you can't use multiple waters/foods of the same type - they don't stack. For example, water - it will take them from your inventory if you, say, select to consume 3 in one go (whilst in the inventory) but when you go back to game you still only get 20 seconds of benefit :(

Wasted quite a lot of food and drink so far without realising that little fact :(

Oh - I thought you just used Alcohol based stuff like Alcohest and Dwarvern Spirit.........

I didn't know it also took the alchemy ingredients for the items it is replenishing.

Interesting, and would definitely explain it!

I'm pretty sure your right though - once you have crafted the base item using the required ingredients, whenever you meditate, it re-fills them using alcohol, no need to get all the ingredients again (this is so you don't have to hunt down ingredients every time you just want to use a single bomb, would be quite annoying.)

Also I'm very glad the game has sold 4 mil units! That's quite an achievement from such humble, yet talented developers.

No it definitely wont affect your saves, otherwise every time they brought out a new patch we would all have to start again.

I believe save files are forward compatible, so a 1.02 save file can be used on 1.05 game obviously, but a 1.05 save couldn't be used on a 1.02 game (if you re-installed the game for example)

When I went to 1.05 it would only allow me to load one save?

Might update it tonight then. It's only about a 300MB download. Will back up my save files just in case though!

Anyone have the patch notes since 1.02? Just curious as to what has been fixed. The CDPR website has no patches listed for TW3 in it's download section

If you have GoG Galaxy it's got a little button next to play that says Changelog. it has all the most notable fixes in there. It only shows up if you bring the mouse near it.

Also the new quest is called Fool's Gold.

Just to point out that the changelog exists without GoG Galaxy too. If you log into the website and select Account -> Library -> TW3 the drop down menu that says More just below the main title of the game has changelog listed in there.

Didn't know that - and probably wouldnt have noticed it without your post - thanks :)

Ah good to know thanks.

Also yes, I set GOG Galaxy to tell me about updates and not just do them in the background. Otherwise you can easily miss new DLC being added. Especially since you need to activate it in the Configure menu.
