The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Arrrrrgh that stupid thing he does where he puts his fists up and you can't run.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU stupid game mechanic!!! :(

(Wanted to steal the loot from under the nose of an earth elemental by luring it away - game mechanics obviously changed for that area to prevent it. Must be valuable loot!)

can someone please explain why the hell in the patch notes it mentions they are fixing an exploit where you can kill cows and get loads of money ?

As fare as I am aware this game is offline and only 1 player right ? So why the hell does it matter if someone wants to get loads of money in the game lol ? it makes no sense in fixing this ! If the game was online then I would 100% understand the needing to patch it but a single player patch to stop exploints makes no sense at all in my book !

They haven't stopped you killing cows and making money; they're just trying to dissuade people performing an exploit. The Bovine Defence Force are only triggered if the exploit is detected. But it's a bit of a joke anyway :p

Finished this last night, best game I have played in years. Such a time sink though, feeling RPGed out at the moment. Last 3 games back to back have been DA Inquisition, Bloodborne then Witcher 3! Time for a break and something light. Still got loads of ? to explore and a few missed notice boards but really haven't got it in me to go do them now, perhaps ill visit them when DLC comes round.

And just to echo a popular sentiment, Gwent is by far was a highlight of this game and any other game for that matter. On some occasions I would spend hours just playing Gwent but by the end I was way too overpowered with loads of hero cards, and spies. Would love for them to tweak it and balance it a little, new cards and groups and make it online! IOS version would be cool too.

On the game itself there are a few things I would like improving. For example balancing, the first few hours were fine and challenging but it got very easy mid way onwards. Even whacked up the difficulty to the highest but still was too easy most of the time, aside from the last boss.

I hate candles

And it did crash quite often

The main story I enjoyed, although the ending wasn't so great, perhaps I was just tiring and rushed it a little but seemed anti-climatic. But for the most part was great. Side quest stuff was awesome for the main part, best side quests I reckon in an RPG that I can remember, although towards the end they did feel a little samey.

10/10 for me and looking forward to some proper DLC in a few months time, game saves moved to USB so I don't accidently delete them.

You're

2/3 of the way really. Depending on some secondary quests you did up until there, they'd either have branched out further or ended when it comes to secondary content. I still got about 30 hours in after Kaer Morhen.

Excellent, thanks :) Done most of the side quests but now I can get on with the main quests with no fear of seeing the ed credits just yet :)

Yeah, it could have been handled better. It just puts you in one long, and quite tedious, ending sequence with
2 boss fights back-to-back, and even they felt a bit to "game-y" (e.g. dodge these really easily telegraphed projectiles he shoots!)
could have been paced better but I like the actual ending itself
Ciri survived the White Frost, didn't go with back to her "real" dad Emhyr var Emreis, but decided to pursue her career as a Witcher just like Geralt :D Unfortunately Gerald didn't have the best ending and was left a bit lonely as he admitted to loving both Yen and Triss, but I guess it kind of fits his "Lone Wolf" personality.

I got the same as above but because i'm a gent and treat ladies with respect :D

Moved away and lived happily ever after with Yen
Saying that I pretty much romanced anything that moved lol

I really liked my ending.

Ciri survived, and despite loving Geralt and having reflected on all their wonderful moments together; she decided to take up the reigns of Empress to help change the world and make it better. She's an idealist and this I think is the best way for the continent to become a better place.
Especially since without Radovid the entire north was quickly conquered.

She's reminded that she can always find Geralt, no matter what she needs.

Geralt settled down with Triss in Kovir, and only sometimes does a few Witcher contracts. Mostly from habit, as Triss is his sugar mommy now. :D

I loved my ending, I'll miss Ciri's witchering, but she's making the world a better place. She's as ruthless as her father in politics, but has basic human decency she got from Geralt.

I liked the lines about Cyres and Skellige as well.

Although what happened to Lambert and Keria, or Eskel? :(
What of the Baron and his Daughter? He set off to find a healer for his wife.
Still lots ends I want to see conclusions to.

I really enjoyed how branching the game was, and how early decisions and quests; even just dialogue affected the ending and your progress towards it.

I thought you can increase (or decrease) the difficulty at any time. No need for a restart!

Yes you can, it is a slider in the options menu.

But I suppose if he already feels his character is too established and would gain too much of an advantage in hardest mode if he upped the difficulty from where he had already got to in the game, then it justifies starting again.

Hell, I would start again just for the Kiera quests! :D

Went to Skileleigi last night. Mother of god
The music, the scenery  Then some sodding siren pecked me on the head a bit.

Been playing a good 8-9 hours now after settling on Image settings and getting a stable FPS.. my god its a beautiful game. If this is the "downgrad" i cannot imagen how it would look before. There are a few odd and low detailed items here and there but overall the game looks bloody gorgeous and i am really enjoying myself so fare. Quests dont feel like the standard "kill that, fetch that" even if they are at the very core.. I just wish the enemy AI was a bit better. My god the boss mobs can be a bit to daft at times. I wont spoil which ones though. By daft i mean getting stuck and easily exploited or just standing there doing nothing for no good reason.

Wiped my saved game last night was finding combat too boring on easy mode so going to go pick a harder one, in no rush to get through the story tbh!

I am afraid that the early ney sayers were right, in that after level 10, the combat on Hard (blood n bones) is also ridiculously easy. All I ever do is activate Quen and spam the fast attack button, and this is all I generally need to do.

Witcher 2 combat was way better than this...really don't get where 'at least its improved a bit from Witcher 2' comes from.

Absolutely incredible environments and graphics in the game but..

  • combat is mediocre.
  • crafting is worse than mediocre (I dont give a damn about what I collect or find)
  • interaction with these gorgeous environments is limited, which means I don't really get as much enjoyment from these stunning visuals as I should.
  • Exploration isn't really rewarded, not least of all because crafting is garbage, and combat is mediocre, which means there are no real palpable rewards for exploration. Instead, I just spam the collect button whenever I can be bothered doing so, and at some time down the line, I will see if I can get a decent pair of boots or agood sword out it.

That leaves the characters, dialogue, and story telling, which is absolutely top notch and makes the game an enjoyable and engaging experience. As much as I do enjoy it, it hasn't escaped my attention that I can sit for a 2 hours session on the game, and find that 45 mins is spent in dialogue and cut scenes, the other 45 mionutes on travelling between locations, with about 30 minutes of actual gameplay.

Witcher 3 is a good game, but it could have been so so much better.

Downgrade I think was mainly in villages where you had loads of npcs, in novigrad it can chug quite a lot as it is and thats on high end hardware so understanble why they did it.

Out in the wilderness though especially skelig isles, is at times jaw dropping. The shrubbery is the best I have seen in any game, with the trees shaking and swaying and all the different variety / coloured plants and sheer volume of them is amazing. They pretty much nailed wilderness.

Edit ^

Crafting is awesome but more noticeable later on in the game. I crafted 3 sets of master crafted armour bear, griffin, cat and when doing these it all fell into place. I quite enjoyed crafting, and was in fact very useful.

I guess I'm lucky that I love the combat, crafting and exploration :p If you don't like the combat then maybe change your playstyle. You could try a sign build, alchemy build, etc.

I enjoy finding materials to craft new armour or crafting my way up to a better bomb/potion.

I am finding combat challenging and I am level 9 (almost 10!). But because of the comments about how easy combat becomes, the one thing I am trying to do is play without upgrading too much. So from all of the skill points I have unlocked I have only used 4 I think, maybe 5. I have a bit of a surplus now :D

I am also not using any oils so far either. Just basically my weapons, my signs and Thunderbolt and food. I also have not even taken a Swallow potion yet either and I am not running any glyphs or runes.

So yeah, it is fair to say it is pretty challenging :)

I enjoyed the combat when I was at a low level. There was a real need to be super quick with the dodge button, and even a need to implement the roll button with certain enemys. There was also a need to implement certain magical signs against certain enemies....

....but now.....spam spam spam spam....die die die die.....win win win win.

You can see the sort of vision they had for the combat at the start of the game but they clearly haven't had the resources to get the combat in the sort of shape that they would like throughout each level of the game.

I don't even care about levelling up now...got about 5 crafting points that I haven't bothered spending yet.

I enjoyed the combat during the run up to the end of the game. Quite a few fun boss fights towards the end.

Depending on your build it can certainly be very easy if you skill Quen/fast attacks. A lot of builds are overpowered but there is ways to make it more entertaining.

The very point people are making when they say the crafting system is crap is the witcher armour makes everything above level 8(which I think is the level of the first witcher armour) is worthless.

You have literally hundreds of crafting ingredients, dozens/hundreds of recipes spread out all over, some buy some found as rewards. But you do the treasure hunt quests which are absolutely spoon fed trivial difficulty stupidly easy to do and you get your armour set for the game. Not sure what the need is to make all three sets either as you pretty much stick with one play style or most people would.
