The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

This is a great game but there are some really irritating things about it, the unskippable animated cutscenes when loading for one. I've watched the Uma one about 25 times now, why not just let me skip it :(

They can be skipped once the game is loaded in the background.
Plus there is a mod on nexus that disables the animated recaps completely.

Installed this last night and played a couple of hours. Very impressed with the world and its detail and the gritty portrayal of life it produces. I like the lore of The Witcher too and as expected the characters and quests are really well fleshed-out.

There are some things stopping me getting quite a immersed as I might, though. First is the clunky feel of movement and combat. Every time Geralt starts off moving or changes dirsction it feels juddery in a way I'm not used to having become accustomed to g-sync. I'm not 100% convinced g-sync is actually working. Also I've lost count of the number of times I've ended up running him into walls, fences, doorways, etc. It quite breaks the immersion when my grizzled witcher seems unable to navigate a simple wooden walkway...

I'm finding the combat a bit cumbersome too. Having come straight from Shadows of Mordor, it feels very slow and clumsy controlling Geralt in fights. Also I suck at it, it seems :(

Despite the issues, the world, the lore and the detail will keep pulling me back in, I'm sure.

Go into options menu and enable "alternative movement response".

Go into options menu and set foliage distance to high, hairworks off, shadows medium. Leave rest to ultra. Framerate limit 60. Fullscreen on.

That should ensure you get 60fps (assuming you have at least 970). All your issues should be solved.

Had done all of those except the alternative movement response. Will try that later. Cheers.

Yeah, hairworks really tanked my framerate (on a GTX780).

So, I dropped this down one difficulty from Death March as I was sick of getting bum rushed by groups of mobs.

Now I'm level 20, I'm still clearing out quests in Novigrad and Velen. I'm making mince meat of everything I'm coming accross, so I'm going to put it back to Death March.

Question though, are there any higher enemies? I'm popping to the isles here and there but most enemies seems to be in the high teens. Nothing is actually red skull to me anymore?

Witcher 3 now won both Golden Joysticks (voted by millions of gamers) and The Game Awards (voted by gaming critics) GOTY awards.

Congratulations CDP, very much deserved.

Very, very much deserved!

While it does have a few issues (very minor ones IMO) such as most gear being useless apart from Witcher gear.

This is by far one of the best games I've ever had the pleasure of playing....the 1st Expansion Heart of the Stone was equally as amazing and I cant wait for Blood and Wine.

The story writing and quest design is second to none IMO.....was really gutted when I finished it and playing subsequent RPG's (Fo4 im looking at you) really highlights how good this game is.

I look forward to Cyberpunk next :)

Can skip these on PS4? How odd! It's square on PS4 so whatever corresponding button it is on PC should work?

Yea, you can skip cutscenes? Spacebar on keyboard or X on the xbox controller???? lol

Unless your loading is taking an absolute age that is...

I want to like this game but I cant seem to get into it. I think Blizzard kinda spoiled all loot management for me.

Agreed. A good deal is impressive about the Witcher - I just found the combat to be boring. And it never really changes, regardless of build. I was doing the same rather dull things throughout the game.

Both great games.

They both could have been much much better though. Witcher 3 has too many bits of it that are poor to be anymore than a 7/10 for me though.

Witcher 3(and 2 and 1) all have fairly pants combat.

They are two entirely different games. Witcher is up close, hack and slash. FO is shoot and duck.
Tbh, I watched a few Youtube vids of FO4, it seems like a decent game, but did'nt make me rush out and buy it. Before Witcher3 came out I watched some playthroughs of Witcher1&2 to see what all the hype was about. I bought Witcher3 when it came out and thoroughly enjoy it. I am on my 4th playthrough and have also got the first two games so I can play the whole series.
Yes, the combat might feel a bit clunky at times, but you learn to compensate, dodge and roll helps a lot.

Yeah, I had to turn it down from Blood and Broken Bones to get a feel for the combat. I was trying to over-rely on block I think, and not managing my signs very well. Going a lot smoother now and I'd probably turn the difficulty back up again but... I think I've screwed my build a bit. It might have to wait until I can respec (which I hear is possible at some point).

Also... I did notice I'd played for over seven hours (which surprised me!) and yet I'm only level three and only just about to leave the starting area. This game is going to keep me busy over Christmas!
