The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I have had a brief play and lost every game lol it would be a lie if I said I understand what I doing.

Learn it and play it. Not only is it fun, but there are quests that involve it that are pretty great, and there will be standalone gwent game which will have singleplayer story campaigns as well.

I know you don't want to turn hairworks off, but it really is an FPS killer. I'd still start with that.

Thanks, yeah it is the most sensible thing to do. But I seem to have manages by turning a few other things down like shadows and so on. The game still looks stunning and I'm managing over 40fps which for me is the borderline limit of being playable.

On a separate note I too am finding combat to be really weird. Maybe I haven't got used to the system properly yet but targeting is a bit wonky and Geralt's movement can be difficult to manage.

Also interacting with things in the environment (such as harvesting ingredients) can be difficult due to the camera placement and lack of crosshair. Sometimes despite seeing something you have to move around and position Geralt in the right way so he can interact with it.

Aside from that it is a great game - I'm taking my time playing a little but here and there. Might take many weeks to finish but I don't want to rush it. :)

If you haven't already, make sure to enable "alternative movement response" in the menu, gives movement less momentum, making it perfectly responsive. As for targeting, the manual targeting should be mostly used for 1 on 1, for group fights the auto targetting works pretty well.

Am I weird? I played the whole game, around 188 hours and never used the auto targeting/lock-on. I just didn't like it. I was playing with KB+M though.

Once you get the hang of quick mouse movements, dodging and getting behind enemies for criticals, it's pretty satisfying combat mechanics IMO.

Thanks, I'll try that alternative movement - I was wondering what that setting was for.

It's a shame there's no way to tab between targets, but I'll try just going with autotargeting and not locking on and see how that works out.

i know i'm doing this all wrong but at the moment I just spam my left mouse but during combat ;)

Yea, even at level 30+ most oils and signs become pointless even on broken bones difficulty and I just spam light attack now combined with times dodges.

Tried this game again tonight. Must have been about the fifth time I've tried to like it.

Turns out... I do now!

I still find the menus and items / interface utterly rubbish compared to any nice blizzard rpg. But I can live with it because the questing and story is beginning to click.

OK so I'm only 3 hours in, but this is progress! Maybe I'll love this game after all. I've been trying long enough lol

Yeah I hit a dull patch on entering White Orchard, and yes the inventory system is a bit... unintuitive (putting it mildly).

But now having learnt a lot more about the skill system and inventory system as well as gameplay I'm finding it "clicking" too.

The ambience/atmosphere is certainly fantastic.

Blimey! The last few segments of the main Blood and Wine story are so good!!

I got a bad ending tho.

Everyone dies. I wanted to spare Detlaff, but ended up with a dead Anna, Syanna and Detlaff.

Gonna reload and see out a different ending.

For the first time in a game I've chosen to put it onto the easiest difficulty due to the fact that the inventory system annoys me and I can't be bothered with potions too much. Just want to experience the story. I know this isn't ideal but it's proven okay so far.

I dunno why I hate the menus so much. I just find it overly complicated. It will no doubt improve for me over time but it's always been the thing that broke this game for me. Was the same with Witcher 2. I've bought all the games but 2 and 3 were a chore for me until now.
