The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

So... how important is it to have played 1 & 2, or could you just dive straight into 3?

There were some things I didn't understand such as who was Phillipa Eilhart and why did she have her eyes gouged out but that didn't really spoil my enjoyment of it. It's such a great game.

Slightly off topic.... Anyone used GOG.com before?

It's available there for £17.49 (Includes: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt + Expansion Pass (Blood & Wine and Hearts of Stone) + all 16 DLCs + all 3 soundtracks.)

Normally use Steam, which is £24.99

Thanks

GOG.com iis the daughter firm of CDProject Red.
CDPR are the chaps that made The Witcher series, so yerp, you're perfectly safe :D

Anyone use an Xbox 360 controller to play this? Mrs would love this game but she wants to play it like a console. :)
Finished it twice with x360pad, works perfectly (although it is even better if you download Immersive Cam mod and its submod Immersive Motion, and select alternative movement response in menu).

Just getting into this game, is there any way to turn bloom down but not off?

I find it really distracting at dusk for example when the light hits tree trunks and they go bright orange and look to polarised?

While you don't need to have played 1 & 2, I'm certainly glad I played both as you get much more of an appreciation of the Lore and have more of an affinity with the characters, especially the likes of Triss, Zoltan, Roche, Dandelion and Shani. I think there's a Witcher 1 reworked project which might make it more bearable given its age.

Entirely up to you and dependent on how much time you have to spare. W1 is a bit of a slog early on. W2 has a few bits that are hard going but it's epic overall.

I've finally committed myself to starting the game again. The furthest I've been is just beyond White Orchard after killing the Griffin. The main problem is how daunting everything seems, largely because of the wealth of content etc. I'm steering clear of Gwent for this reason. I just want to get down to the meat of the game.

Am I correct in thinking I'm best going for the "Game of Year" edition, which includes the Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine expansions?
