The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I don't think you realise how difficult it must have been to implement these new features in an engine that is what, 7/8 years old? Could you do a better job, for free?

2022 entitlement right there folks.

Eh they didn't work for free, the staff will have been paid.

And let's not ignore the fact that sales of this game will have shot back up with the TV series and hype of the update.

Some RT on vs off comparisons:

Yeah it's obvious sales are going to go up, but what pc gamer doesn't own one of the best games to ever be released? I'm sure the niggles will be resolved in due time.

Yes Ultra+ with all the RT enabled. I have DLSS now set to Performance just to see what it is like in the above screenshots, can you tell? :p I think DLSS has been done really well in this game, it's not like Cyberpunk where DLSS Performance has obvious glitching on light sources, this has no electric lights in game so looks fine lol.

DLSS Quality is 45-50fps, DLSS Balanced is 50-60fps, DLSS Performance appears to be 60fps baseline.

Now I will do the same comparison again when I get to Novigrad to see if it stays 60fps :p

Think you are wrong :p

That's not how global illumination, shadows etc work within the scope of "real time" lighting.
Well i will be more than happy if the game does like like that with RT enabled, as almost every RT game i have seen does the opposite, and brightens the dark parts inc shadows up.

Also the framerate :D

Are you implying the reflective puddles are not worth the FPS hit? :)

I don't think anyone rational is arguing RT can't look better when done right, it's just that most don't look at those screenshots and think "wow, so worth the FPS hit".

There is a value to accurate lighting and shadows though, some people will be all for it, some won't care either way. comparing side by side just click on one of those screenshots then use your arrow keys to flick between on and off and youb will see that it's more than just subtle differences. the RTGI especially.

Absolutely, how could anybody not want those shiny puddles and some improved shading? They are totally worth the almost 50% drop in FPS.

Nothing is worth 50% drop in fps, but if it's at 60fps or above anyway, then the whole experience is more than fine especially on a VRR monitor. If you turned off the fps counter then I am confident nobody would know it was running at only 60fps, myself included.

Or they could save a fortune and buy a lower end GPU, get the same 60 FPS with an arguably minor drop in graphical quality and get the same experience.

This is not our problem, if CDPR couldn't do it they shouldn't have bothered. Why expose themselves to all this negative PR?

I forgot to add, my GPU is at 85% power limit in those above screenshots, so the fps would be 5 or so higher I guess if it was at stock :p Meh.

As mrk has shown it runs fine with ultra+, full RT and ultrawide getting a good 60fps. Along with other people. Your problem seems to fall into the "hardware not up to the task" category. :D
