The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Both of you, if in the menu you completely disable RT, the game should stop crashing.
Or, if you select the "Ultra RT" preset which enables all RT, game should also stop crashing.

Once I understood the conditions under which the game crashes, I stopped getting crashes.

Basically, you should never modify RT from ingame, and you should never enable only some parts of RT - it always has to go through RT Ultra preset. Once you select it, load into the game, then you can disable parts of it.

Thanks for the tip but I can't even get to ANY menus........I only get to the 'press space to skip' at the start and then it insta crashes - ohhh the game menu at the start is a million light years away for me !

Thanks for the tip bud, this sorted it for me. I had been tweaking individual ray tracing settings on and off. Setting them all back on enables my save to load (turning ray tracing off was also working anyway, but the whole draw of this update is the ray tracing really aint it!)

This update is still a hot mess though. I'm going to give them a couple of days to see if any significant patches get released to fix issues. If not I'm nuking it and going back to my old version with mods.

Let's not forget this was a FREE update. They haven't charged a penny for it. They didn't have to do this as like you said, they're rich now.

Whilst true, I'm of the opinion that if you're going to do something, do it bloody right, regardless of remuneration.

All the devs have done here is create further bad PR for themselves after the Cyberpunk **** show. It's tarnishing the very game that effectively made them. Seems like some people really learn nothing.

I don't know a lot about CDPR - have a lot of the original team left I wonder? Is it now populated with blue haired alphabet people that couldn't code a sandwich?

I don't think you realise how difficult it must have been to implement these new features in an engine that is what, 7/8 years old? Could you do a better job, for free?

2022 entitlement right there folks.

If it was my job. Yes I could. For free? Nah :p

Entitlement? Don't make me laugh. Reasonable expectation for the people that made the game to do an update that works is how I would describe it.

Like I say, either do it and do it well or don't bother. They didn't have to, or need to do this update, but they have and it's currently a mess, so people are going to whinge a bit. I find it depressing as it seems to be endemic across the board at the moment. There's no proper testing or quality control anymore.

True, but this was an opportunity for CDPR to fix their broken reputation with their customers. A lot of their success was based on the good will they built up with their fans over the years (the indie developer that delivered triple A games!) which they ruined pretty much over night 2 years ago, so releasing something like this, even for free to their understandably already angry customers is quite insulting.

Its now becoming very clear that many shortcuts have been made. You would think that they would want to get this right.

Yeah right - be interesting to learn how many copies of witcher and expansions got sold today across 3 platforms in addition to which they increased the price this week to £25 base game, £35 with dlc. It's an 8 year old game and there will be many people who haven't played it before. It's called a loss leader son

I'm sure it'll get better soon, you got to beta test first and give feedback ;) maybe I'm just too laid back but it really doesn't affect me that a free update isn't working as well as it should be, there are way more trivial things happening to be getting upset about.

With regards to price, its been £6.99 all week on gog?

The Steam price has increased

Also I was right above. Looking at the Steam sales charts Witcher 3 is this week at no 61 best selling game in the world up from no 87 last week +26 places.

I do feel for those people struggling with the RT issues that seem to have come in with this. I cant equate to it as according to my Steam details I've done 16.2 hours now since the update dropped and I've not had any issues in those 16 hours. I am however not running with RT so that most likely explains why I've not had any issues. Fingers crossed that CDPR sort it out soon for those with issues.

So now GOG decides it will update now but its doing so by installing the entire 47gig i mean why? Done the same with cyber punk but that was 67gig.

It's to 'pre-load' your annoyance levels so that when it crashes on launch after all that waiting, and/ or runs like utter turd, you're already annoyed so it's not as bad :D

I really hope they patch it over the next couple of days as I really don’t want to have to uninstall and download it again.

My broadband is crap and it’ll take most of a day to download 50Gb. No fiber connection until Spring. :(

Runs decent so far, all the RT stuff enabled and it's around 80-90fps most of the time on a 3080, a few drops here and here, and a few visual glitches now and again, but nothing to serious.
