The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Has anyone else noticed purple textures in buildings in Novigrad's Hierarch Square with both raytracing and Hairworks enabled? Disabling one or the other gets rid of the problem, I have an RTX 3080 FE and 3900X using the latest driver.

Anyone tried the next gen update on Steam Deck yet? I got around to trying it today, and It's truly awful as I suspected it would be.
Played through from the start of the game to Velen(?) on the steam deck. This was on windows 10 as I have set up a dual boot and it ran pretty well, didn't notice any issues.

Also briefly tried on Steam OS but the proton hotfix didn't seem to work for DX12 for me though DX11 mode seemed to be fine.

Actually, I have some positive news for Steam Deck!

Since the hotfix patch yesterday it is now much better for me. I'm using Steam OS, Proton hotfix, GOG version of game but am forcing it to use the DX11 exe.
At native 720p, all settings medium, textures on high (which is how I ran it before on v1.31a) I'm getting a super smooth no stutters locked 40fps/ 40hz on Deck so it's as good as it was before in that sense.

Nice, Ill have to update and test it out on SteamOS :)

Nobody tried my suggestion for turning off Hyperthreading on your CPU yet??

I really can't emphasise enough how much this helps to reduce microstutter on my gaming PC (intel 11700 and 3090) with this 'update' in DX12!

In conjunction with setting RTSS frame limiter to 45 I'm now running Ray Tracing all max at 4k ultrawide (3840x1620) HDR and a mix of high, ultra and ultra+ and it is smooth flat frametimes and microstutter free around 90% of the time now with HT off. Yes it's ridiculous to have to lock to 45fps on a 3090, but it's really very playable and world away from 30fps in terms of feel.

Anyone with similar, you've got to try disabling Hyperthreading and report your findings, would be really good to know if it works for others....

(P.S. If you don't have a Gsync/ VRR screen, try limiting your fps to an evenly divisible number of your screen's refresh rate. e.g. if your monitor is 120hz, set a 40fps limit.)

The game doesn't have micro stutters any more since the patch, the issue remains that the engine is CPU limited because it is not optimised for multithreading, only single threading. Look at my previous Novigrad RT on vs Off screenshots. The GPU usage drops to below 80% outside and the CPU total usage doesn't go above 40%, with one core even sitting at idle utilisation.

Not a chance am I turning off hyper threading because a game developer can’t do their job properly.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment (I've **** all over CDPR in this thread, I think they are terrible now) it is a short term fix/ option to try. What's the harm? Takes 2 minutes to turn off a setting in your BIOS.

And, turning off HT can be beneficial for quite a number of games. It's also a brilliant solution on Steam Deck (via Powertools) to sort out a number of games, especially emulation.

It does. It's better since the hotfix, but still not as it should be.

I've done proper testing this eve with HT on vs off. The difference is night and day for me. I'm super sensitive to any form of stutter/ microstutter. Some poeple don't notice it, or are not bothered.

Also - The DF video you linked above - Alex mentions the sort of 'stutter' I'm talking about (not shader comp stutter). HT off and RTSS frame limiting is genuinely mitigating it for me.

I don't have any micro stutters at all.

For what it's worth I'm running it uncapped and reflex+boost.

I haven't turned off hyper threading.

Perhaps the micro stutters are more evident on certain processors, on my res and CPU if there are any then it's not evident -Maybe in part due to the other settings I use and the monitor I have - The stutters it did have were shader load stutters

Use process lasso to set hyper threading off for a single game. Although I don’t think you guys should be messing about re-naming DLL / direct x files. Probably just going to cause more issues for yourself once this game is properly patched.

I’ve been this patient waiting for the next gen update. I’m gong to give it until January to see if CDPR can actually fix the performance issues.

The dll files rename is only to do with allowing overlays to work so they can hook onto the dx12 part of the game when running in dx12 since it's using a dx12 wrapper over dx11 and overlays get confused and don't work as a result. CDPR have fixed this in the hotfix though so this workaround is no longer needed. It had no side effect anyway.

Well played quite a bit last night and the hours flew by :o

Have to say the patch has been great for m. The game now pretty much lives in 50-70fps range with RT and Ultra+, and VRR sorts out the motion perfectly. I have not been to Novigrad yet but has been in other areas like Velen and did a bunch of side missions like Ladies of the Wood and the mini Fight Club which was fun. Reflex+Boost makes the mouse movement much better, it's basically instant response even at 50fps with the latency low too.

The more I sprawl across the land doing side quests the more I appreciate the day night cycle and how it changes the landscape.

I did spot one bug though, look at the GPU usage at night here

And in general I am seeing a slight improvemnt to CPU core spread here and there. It's better than pre-hotfix, but there's still room for considerable improvement. I think if they can get it to the levels of Callisto protocol for CPU use, then I could be looking at 70-80fps easily with RT with Ultra+ as well.
