The Witcher - Enhanced Edition

Ah well, another crap weekend of non-existent PC Gaming. Now I remember why I stopped in the first place :/ Got to wait for gamesplanet/metaboli to give me a proper cd key for my digital version, which I purchased ages ago.

Last weekend Warhammer or lack thereof, and now this.
 
If anyone else gets a crash to desktop after launching.
There is a bug with initialising EAX. Happened to me using ALC888 HD onboard audio.


Start>run>cmd>dxdiag

click sound tab

Knock hardware acceleration down to standard.
Then the game will launch fine.

Just about had kittens after the crash on first launch. Especially after all the faffing about since this morning trying to get a hold of the enhanced edition.

Also they have included a nocd fix in this patch.
Nice of them to do this and makes good sense after requiring a valid cd key to enable the enhanced edition installation.

Just wondering - I read one of his books called "The Last Wish" which was a series of small stories, was wondering if the Novella was one of those.

If I remember rightly "The Witcher" was the 2nd story from that book (and is the most heavily linked to the real game with Princess Adda as the Striga) and apparently his most popular short story. A nice way to gain some potential new readers !!
 
What errors do you get Slam?

The patch took an age (20/30mins I think) to install on my machine. Q6600, 2gb ram, Xp Pro SP3.

Ignore any 'program not responding' errors you see in task manager. I had them when I looked after getting impatient. Side effect of the patch, and nothing to worry about.

Also you must have at least one language pack in the folder which you have stored the patch. If you quit at any time during the patching process you must completely remove/reinstall the game from DVD, then attempt to reinstall the enhanced edition.

It will eventually get there.

something weird happened when i started it up. My XPS 1710 Lights came on. Which is weird coz i disabled em from the bios ages ago.

Now when i exit the game they switch back off. Hrmmm bizarre. Does this game mess about with system settings?

havent played this game since january..forgotten everything :eek: i think i might start a new game :D

After DLing those 5 files from Rapid share, the zips wont merge or whatever you call it ;)
I keep getting
"Unexpected end of archive" or
"The archive is either in unknown format or damaged"

the file names are eg TWEE_Upgrade.zip.002, so ive tried changing them so they end in a ".zip" but im not having much luck.
 
Probably not what you want to hear, but just grab it from the Gamershell link.

I had 3 of the Rapidshare links downloaded when it suddenly dawned on me, what the hell format are they. I canned my download half way through the 4th download and just used gamershell. Took me 30mins to download.

I was going to try 7-zip and if that had failed, HJsplit to try and join the files.

Maybe give one of those a try.

Download a program called hjsplit and merge them with it.

Yes you need to use 7-zip or hjsplit to extract those Rapidshare files.

I hope this is the correct uk version because I downloaded the one from the softpedia link someone posted on this thread. It would not install as it was incompatible with my language version.

It is indeed.

Got a couple of hours play out of the Witcher last night using the above link. Be patient with the update installing saguy. It takes an absolute age.

Warhead should have turned up to me today but it hasn't I suspect my local postie is hoarding it like he did with Stalker. :mad:

Got this on order but its out of stock, thought I might as well order it anyway as it will give me a while to finish my other games before this arrives! :)
 
Ah, I forgot all about this until this morning when I got an email about it. Not sure wether to start the game again or continue from where I stopped playing. I was on act 3 I think, haven't played it since it was released though.

Any major differences in the early stages of the game that might give me a reason to start from the beginning?
