***The X-Factor Thread - ALL X-Factor Related Stuff In Here***

The judges and other record record execs (who I think already signed up in the USA), also like a her.

Good point, if I can find an album (assuming she did one) it might be worth a listen.

X-Factor really isn't X-Factor anymore is it.

Cher actually cannot rap or sing, where the hell are the votes even coming from for her

LOL.

Probably people like her image and what she is offering.
Personally, I like her because of her first audition which I thought was fantastic and better than Keri Hilson's version.

Obviously, people like her.

How can you like someone when you can barely hear her sing/speak because of the backing music and vocals?

She's so shockingly embarrassing in my opinion. Cowell see's her as a cash cow as she's the sort of talentless chav that's goes down well with a lot of youngsters nowadays.

I thought the best performances were Mary, Matt, John, Rebecca, and Treyc. The rest were average at best. I cannot understand how the judges liked Belle Amie, I thought their vocals were all over the place from start to finish, and One Direction sounded just as bad. Cher was no better either!

Is it just me or are the judges way more forgiving than they were a few years ago? It isn't like Cowell to act like he is. There's something funny going on because there haven't really been any genuinely bad comments from the judges during the live shows, they just tell the contestants they were great or that they will be great the following week regardless of how badly they performed.

Watch Cher's first audition: there were no backing vocals and the music volume was just right. Thats about the best audition I think I've seen.

My understanding is that ballads tend to be a little easier to sing than the faster songs, which why when all these singers sing slow songs, it doesn't really do anything for me. I've seen the same songs sung much better by other artists.

What I enjoy is originality, ie. something which I haven't seen or heard before. I remember when Chico sung his original song "Chico Time", I thought it was great and memorable. The other artists had better voices, but they sang the same old stuff.

The painter/decorator sang a song which is in the charts right now. The only problem is that Bruno Mars who sang the original is such an awesome singer, even though the painter/decorator has the best voice of this year's contestants, he still fell short of Bruno Mars' version.

What I like about Cher is that she sings songs which are totally unpredictable. I can see the painter/decorator winning and disappearing soon after. I can see Cher not winning but going on to sell many more records than the better vocalists.

Cher's first audition was a cover of a Keri Hilson track which itself is a cover. Keri Hilson herself is a poor vocalist so its easy for her to better Keri.

She musically brings nothing to the show, vocally she cannot sing in tune let alone hold a semi decent note. Rapping she has no flow or rhythm. To me she can barely follow the music but she has the relevant & current image which will inspire many of the voters.

To be fair I think the British talent pool is running very dry now with this show compared to the American one we have very little talent coming out of the show....

USA population = 307,006,550
UK population = 61,414,062

It doesn't surprise me that the USA are bringing more talent to the shows...their population is 5 times the size of the UK.

Furthermore, in terms of good singers, we have the painter/decorator. A few years ago we had Leona. 2 years ago we had Alexandra Burke. To say that we don't have good singers is wrong.

Who have the USA got? Usher...well we saw what he had to offer in last weeks show. Had he been in the XFactor competition and sang the way he did, he would've been voted out. :D

Not everything is as rosey as you are making out, on the other side of the pond.

I will agree though, that for the last 2 years, the talent hasn't been great. Alexandra Burke and JLS are great though. ;)

Don't forget they will be raking in the cash from the downloads from iTunes this year! ;)

Criticising them would be counter productive. Some less intelligent people are swayed by what the judges say.

This years show leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I use to really enjoy this as 'turn your brain off entertainment'. Not anymore.

This year seems to be lacking any judging integrity - (Yes, I am aware how incredibly bias they can be) what happened to the judges saying "It was ok" or "Meh, I didn't like it"...

Everything is "OMG You're AMAZING/ Popstar already!/best artist ever lolz!1" etc...

Well i really enjoyed Wangners performance :D

I didnt like chers song this week i thought last weeks was better. Mary was amazing and i laughed at aiden. Hes last years danyl, thinks hes better than he is and i was so pleased to see him brought down to earth with a bump! Oh and why cant he keep his eyes open? They told him about that at bootcamp!

This is actually very interesting.

If you look on this very forum, if you have a few loud-mouths saying that like contestant 1, what will generally happen is in order to not go against the grain, many people will go along that statement. Humans have an innate need to be accepted a liked. By going against the grain, there is fear for most people they they will be ridiculed and won't be accepted.

A good example of this is at school (in young kids). Kid1 buys a Nike running shoe. Everybody around oohs and aaahs. Kid2 goes with his parents to shop for a trainer...immediately the kid will say, "I also want a Nike trainer". This despite the fact that Adidas may be a better trainer.

What we see here is that even though the product is inferior, in order to go with the crowd and be accepted, the child will insist on buying what other kids are buying.

So, now if a judge states that Cher Lloyd is the best thing since sliced bread, it is likely to effect the thinking of most people (intelligence has nothing to do with this) and they are likely to buy into this opinion.

The above technique is used in advertising, where if someone who you respect/like, likes a product/singer, you are more likely to give that product/singer a chance. We see this in trainer advertising where kids want to wear the latest football boot from companyX, simply because their footballing hero wears their football boot.

More obviously, the power of suggestion (which is what advertising is) is seen in hypnosis. If you ever watched Derren Brown's shows on the telly, you will know what I mean. People do what is suggested to them...not what they would do of their own accord.

Intelligence has nothing to do with your susceptibility to the power of suggestion.

If a judge gives a singer/group the thumbs up, this can have a MASSIVE effect on the chances of that singer/group making it to the next round.

Dani Minogue is the only judge who has been critical. The others have all be singing the praises of poor performances.

Seriously, One Direction are so bad, they are laughable. Had they auditioned together in the first instance, they would've surely been told that they aren't good enough.

Perhaps the music execs are thinking that they are young. They will get the experience of xfactor (they won't win). They will then train them up (easy to do, since they are so young), to do the bidding of their record company.
