***The X-Factor Thread - ALL X-Factor Related Stuff In Here***

Of course singing higher is more difficult, you're making your vocal folds vibrate at a higher frequency. That takes a lot of physical control.

Here's a test for you:

1) Try singing "Dont Stop Believing" by Journey.

2) Sing "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Jimmy Somerville.

(2) will be easier as that is falsetto.

We had a go at this this afternoon and I had no problem singing "Dont stop Believing", but I found singing "Don't Leave me this Way" (once we found the music online) was more difficult.

According to my band mate who is a music teacher I use my chest voice to sing the high notes which is why I am finding it difficult. TBH, I don't really get all this chest voice, throat voice, head voice stuff, octave range (which he said was very good) et. I just sing the stuff.

Anyway I've decided to get some lessons and see what happens. Thanks for the info, it was very helpful.

But I accept that Falsetto is a technique and not a talent, however I still think that Matt Cardle is a talented singer nonetheless, I think you have to have a modicum of talent to sing like he does, and whether you like his voice or not is down to personal choice rather than his talent.

Well yes he does have a talent because he can hold a tune and keep it going through a whole song (even though they are shortened).
You sing in a band so know what it's like to go for 90 minutes or more but have you noticed how many of these X-Factor singers get sore throats all the time.
It's because they've only ever got up for a couple of songs at a karaoke so haven't trained for the distance.
Mind you I think Matt Cardle also does the pub scene so he should be used to singing for a couple of hours but he won't do damage singing like that anyway.

He was in a band that were about to release an album or something I think

The bands called 'Seven Summers', I downloaded the album from Itunes last night. It's really good, think it was in the top 80 albums by sales so the X Factor effect must be having a positive influence.

I don't understand how men can feel that way about Cher, when you have Danni and Cheryl in the same show. I mean, why even look at Cher, when you can look at the other 2 ladies on the show?

Katie will be. I hope Cher is in there with her as well! Would be great to see who Simon votes to go home!

In other news Tinchy Stryder has said he is a big fan of Cher and would want her on his new record label that he has set up wit Jay-Z. And he has told Jay-Z about her! Looks like that gurning buffoon could be around for quite some time! :(

Neither Cher or Cheryl are my type, I wouldnt really go for either of those if I was single. Danni though I would go for.

Its a gimmick.

Lets be honest, little girl white rappers are not what the public wants. This can be seen by the success of Lady Sovereign, so in the long run don't expect anything from her.

She doesn't have the best voice, but she definitely has star quality and will be able to sell records.

People assume that record sales and 'quality of voice' have strict correlation. This is definitely not true. Singers with lesser voices can definitely outsell those with better voices.

Matt Cardel is definitely the best singer this year...however, would anyone remember him in 1 or 2 years?

The problem with Rebecca (who always looks like she is about to cry) and Matt (who is forgettable), is that they lack "star quality".

You only have to look at Lady Gaga and how she is able to create a buzz around her. I just can't see how Rebecca or Matt will be able to create a similar buzz.

Katie and Cher are already 2 people who people will remember. Unfortunately for Katie, she is disliked by the general public (the voting suggests this), so when it comes to UK record sales (and concert/tickets sales), this may count against her.

My belief is that regardless of what happens on the show, Cher will be the one who makes the most of the opportunity which XFactor has afforded them. Only time will tell, though.

I dont see the star quality. I see the judges going wild about her even when she is terrible.
That is XFactor causing a hype, not her. She will be another forgotten.

You're welcome. :)

When my singing teacher was telling me initially about the different voices I thought he was selling snake oil.

When I could feel the top of my skull vibrating when in head voice I knew there was something in it.
