They are Billions - RTS meets Zombie Hordes !

Second map is far more open so you need practically map length walls and that makes early expansion difficult.

Why do you need to wall so hard for early expansion?

Ballistas control zones and only need a little wall facing the enemy to increase their durability.

When you see a hordes direction you can instantly pause and throw up walls in their path (they always path for the control centre then attack anything in the way).

I bought this yesterday as although I generally don't like single player games, I do enjoy a good RTS. Is there not a tutorial though? I don't particularly know what I'm doing!

It's basically a game you learn by just doing which is half the fun. The game can be brutal and I mean brutal, even when you think you've got a good base and are on top of things it will go pear shaped and fast.

Build a few houses supply them with food and build sawmill's and quarry's. Slow expansion is the key, block chock points with wooden walls and have your army on auto patrols to cover your base from all angles.

Houses bring in gold, build a bank in the centre of them to increase gold income. Place warehouses near industry to increase production.

Building towers to defend your base is costly, don't overdo them use soldiers in early games whilst slowly increasing tech to build thanatos units for massive AoE.

The game is trial and error, getting to the last wave and losing everything is common, get used to it.

The more I've played this, the more I have gotten sick of it tbh. Its entirely possible that I've overplayed it in a compacted space of time (I have after all put in a lot of hours in quite a short period of time on it). Where I used to enjoy it and had fun, I find that more and more now I am annoyed and in a bad mood when it comes time for me to logout for the session. Possibly I just need to give it a break for a while, possibly I just need to put it down until maybe a multiplayer aspect to it is added, not sure. One thing is definite, I dont want to finish a game session on something and be in a bad mood because of it, so for the time being I will stop playing it and play some other titles which leave me smiling and hopefully by the time I return to the game I will enjoy it again.

I like to feel safe ;)

Map3 has a lot of lakes and mountains which make easy choke points and impenetrable base perimeters.

The downside is energy consumption which isn't really that bad.

Map 4 is pretty miserable though. Found it incredibly unsatisfying.

No id heard energy consumption was higher but so far so good. What’s so bad about map 4?

You get choked for food, zombies can see further and aggro more easily. Essentially if you leave troops attacking zombies they will keep pulling more and more, even fast and specials eventually until you die. Eventually you have enough firepower to deal with even a large pulled group but that's a long way off.

This starts from the moment you spawn. You must grind out space to get food without pulling too many zombies at once and expand enough to get what you need done before the real horde attacks.

Using a soldier pulls zombies excessively so he's not very usable and if a building gets destroyed anywhere the local zombies are likely to swarm in to the sound with their high aggro.

Some people like the micromanaging I guess.

Got a nice layout on map 2 and nailed it with the loss of only a single section of wall. Three choke points, 30+ Thanatos scattered around them, 40+ veteran snipers and about 20 or so non veterans. 3 executors per choke point and a shock tower per point. I was NOT going to get done on this one.

On to map 3 now.

First timed map 3 last night. Map 1 needs a nerf :p

Couple of things.

Soldier towers need a buff. They cost way to much for the purpose they serve.
Same with gates, they cost too much and they're weak as ****. Better to just leave a gap in the wall for troop movement and then plug it when you have to.

Gold management is also really important. I try to have quite a bit of a reserve at the end so I can spam executers for the final horde. They're too costly to have idling in your base for half the game, so I only upgrade as and when I really need to.

Had a look at map 4. Agree with Hotwired its hideous and looks horrible. Don't think I'll enjoy playing this one so much.

My 4th time playing it after quickly dying the first 3 times, I'm now up to day 75. Really liking this game, makes you care about your units, like the old C&C games used to do.

I first timed map 3 too was a complete face roll. Map 4 however...

But no food! At Day 15 I’m usually where I am at Day 5! Can’t get food, can’t build tents, can’t progress and zombies get drawn in so quickly! At 110% so might drop it down a notch!

I'm day 40 and just build a stone workshop ;)

As far behind as I am, I foolishly think I can turn it around.

Next patch sounds good. There's an MP map that everyone can play once a week, but only once and then your score goes on the leader board :)

I’m now on Day 40 and about to build a stone workshop. Mad isn’t it!!!

I had to take down a vod with rangers backing off to two Balista.

OMG this is bad. I bought this on offer from Humble Bundle last night and fired it up for five minutes to see what its like. An hour later I was still "trying it out" I had to stop myself. This is going to suck your life away ! :)
