Things seen in passing that have left an impression?

Saw a cyclist in Leeds been run over by a big lorry, it turned left while the cyclist was just at the side, only travelling slow but he got a bit mangled under the wheels. Turned out the guy had died :( Sad one I'm afraid, not nice to see. Only one that can come to mind atm.

Years ago when living in the US (Colorado) I got a flat in the middle of nowhere on a pitch-black night. With flashlight in mouth I began changin the wheel when out of nowhere a swanky car pulls up (I cant recall...some hi-end Merc, Lexus etc) and a executive dude gets out in a suit, tie the works. He starts to remove his jacket asking if I need a hand. I thanked him for his kindness, he was insistant but I managed to tell him I had it under control so he reluctantly left.

This tiny incident made a massive impact on me. This guy just stopped without thinking. I could have been some nutball on the side of the road. The news is full of evil and despair but its good to see that in between all that are some really sound people.

I was 17 and on placement in a special needs nursery with college. I witnessed a "carer" (I use that term loosely) force feeding a disabled child, like literally ramming food into her mouth until she was forced to swallow.

I can still remember the little girls name and everything. I thought the whole thing was so barbaric (the look on her face was one I won't ever forget) it made me want to a) hurt the woman, and b) try and make sure where possible that no disabled child I came into contact with would ever have that look on their faces.

Saw my son half in and half out, now that I'll never forget.

That's not really something you saw 'in passing' though is it?

It's not like you were just strolling around a hospital and just noticed through a window that your wife was halfway through giving birth to your child :p

Oh but it is when you're up the head end, quick look....... Yep that's burned into my retinas

could have said my daughters birth but she came out the sunroof and I watched the lot, surgeon cutting through layers of skin and flesh then the uterus, then stiching back up layer by layer, nurses thought I was mad but it was the most interesting 20 minutes of my life, that's not 'in passing'

A few years back, just after I had passed my driving test I was coming back from a mate's house late at night. I was shattered and my eyelids were heavy. I hit a cyclist on the side of the road at about 50mph, it was shocking to see this dark mass get barrelled over the bonnet, smash into the windscreen and then roll over in my rear view mirror. It was like it all happened in slow motion.

Thankfully Autoglass were able to repair my windscreen without it affecting my no claims bonus - the thought of losing it had been keeping me up at night!

I saw something that made little sense once. I saw a Woman riding a bike at the side of the motorway, Wearing a red rain mac...

Anyways, We travelled on for about 20 minutes when we hit traffic. After 10 minutes of queuing we got to an accident, Involving a woman in a red rain Mac, She'd been knocked off her bike.

Now there's no way she could have passed us, We'd been travelling at full speed for a good half hour. But it gave me a really really creepy feeling, As it was the same bike, same Mac and from what i could see of her hair...it was the same. I would have put money on it being her that I saw in passing.

I had ghost theories and alsorts going through my head. And trust me, Ghosts although I would love for them to exist, They are most definitely not something I believe in.

So I put it down to coincidence. A woman with the same appearance, down to the Mac, Bike, Hair and Light blue jeans had been hit by a car.

Still...Creepy and with me to this day

watching a girl commit suicide, by jumping off a bunch of flats, 14 floors. i will never forget the 'thud' and the way she basicaly exploded, much like a balloon full of water, drop on the ground.

I have had the displeasure of attending the aftermath of a couple of RTCs, but they were neither in passing nor particularly suitable for this forum.

Gave me chills.

It makes you appreciate that in the UK we have rules that most people follow.

One time a bus pulled up at a petrol station full of people, the bus driver pulls the keys out of the ignition and gives it the the attendant so he can undo the petrol cap, the bus is still running???? while the attendant is filling up the petrol the bus driver decides it's a good time to have a smoke!!!
