Think you can hide on Farcebook? Not any more.

The only reason I can see this as being annoying is for people who don't to be FB friends with everyone they know.

Currently you can choose who you want to know you are on facebook. This means that people you don't want to be FB friends with can't find you and send you requests, avoiding those awkward moments when you have to explain why you don't want them on your FB.

I only use FB to keep up with events that myself and a bunch of friends arrange. It's easier to keep track that way so I gave in a while back. I do however use a false name so no worries about being stalked. :)

Nothing ever was or is private on the internet and it doesn't matter on the settings you pick. The only difference is whether a computer illiterate idiot can find the information or it will have to be someone that can use google and follow instructions.

The moment you put any kind of information on your PC or worse the internet, don't expect any kind of privacy or security.

Pointless topic tbh.
Ignorance is bliss indeed.

Right, what's wrong with them finding you. If you have everything as set to friends only, or what ever groups you limit things to, then random people won't actually be able to see anything on your profile. Complete non-issue.
Surely if you have your timeline as private then no one but friends can see it. Also if you get a random friend request then you just ignore/block that person? To top all that dont put much on fb in the first place?

^^ This.

Storm in a teacup.

Wow. Am I the only person here who doesn't think they're interesting enough to be looked up by random internet weirdos?

Pictures are set to friends only, public view of my page gives next to no information that could be used in any meaningful way and nobody can publish anything to my facebook page until I have approved it.

If you know how to use the site, none of this is really anything but a false crisis for an actually quite important issue.

Storm in a teacup.

It's not a storm in a teacup at all. A lot of us don't want to be seen. And those of you who say it doesn't matter just give FB more and more excuses to remove privacy.

To say it's OK is akin to being forced to stand in a room with people you were trying to avoid but being told, "it's OK, you don't have to say anything to them." No, I don't want them to see me at all, nor have the option to message me.

Block the people then? No-one is FORCING you to use Facebook at all, so it's nothing like what you said.

Long story short is if you don't like it don't use Facebook, but if you set your privacy up well and don't accept weirdo's theres really nothing that can be seen.

Nobody's forcing you to be on Facebook though, so it's nothing at all like that idiotic analogy you've come up with.

When 99.9% of us signed up we had the privacy option. That has now been revoked. So, if you want to continue using FB it is indeed forced upon you.

Which is exactly the reason why I've left.

To be brutally honest, If you ever thought you could hide on facebook you were kidding yourself. Even with all your settings set to private or what ever it is extremely easy to find someone on facebook (or any social media site for that matter) and view the profile if you know what your doing.
