Thinking about getting a Golf GT

4 grand in 2 years is nothing, and there is no way to avoid depreciation unless you wanna buy a 10 year old banger

he has the money if he wants to buy brand new let him, myself personally have never liked the idea of buying a second hand car, or second hand clothes, or second hand anything for that matter, you pay a premium for something brand new but i'd rather pay the premium and get something nobody else has touched rather than take the risk of some idiot owning it before and treating it like crap
I think you have mis quoted me.

I was saying that buying a 2 year old one will cost you the same overall as buying a brand new one, as the depreciation between brand new and 2 year old is likely to be the same as between 2 years old and 4 years old.

Of course, you have the initial outlay. But then thats only an issue if you can't afford it outright. Plus looking at that example, buying brand new, you shouldn't have any servicing, maintenance or other costs involved in keeping a slightly older car.

exactly these cars dont depreciate like other cars do, they also are built to last forever, so buying brand new is an extremely good option, the 2 best models are the 1.9 tdi and the GT 2.0 TDI

the R32 is a complete joke though, now that is a waste of money, you would be better off buying a bmw 3 series or an audi a3 3.2

Much better just to get a brand new spec'd up Mini with a private plate for free courtesy of your Mums motability, eh? Then you can look down your nose at all of those who can't blag a free car becuase of someone elses disability and tell us all about how rich daddy is and how your mates all have £10m houses.

i think you guys should have a good read through this

2.0 TD 138bhp GT Sport
If your budget can stretch to it, this is a fine engine. There's a great deal more pulling power for added acceleration, but very little penalty to pay in terms of fuel consumption. Our pick.

GT Sport models have lowered suspension, large alloy wheels and a long list of standard equipment, including stability control, air-conditioning and automatic headlights and wipers

you get a lot of value for money, i would say go for it

im going to refrain from being as person as fox, but my god can you tell you've lived a sheltered life when it comes to money

Its obvious your parents have got money, and you've never learnt the value of it to post comments like that.

If you have a look at this you'll see all the What Car reader reviews. It seems a bit odd that car that is 'built to last forever' only scores 3 out of 5 stars for quality from the people who actually own them

Calm down dear;)

That aside, spending 18k on a new Golf isn't the most stupid thing you can do. As pointed out they hold their value well and are a good car if you want a comfy diesel hatchback.

Yes you can get more for your money, a lot more in fact, or you could save a few grand and buy a Mondeo ST tdci (last shape) as an example. Or a Volvo S60 D5 if you want the comfort and performance but not a BMW.

The Golf, for some reason, seems to tick all the right image boxes for the upper end middle class types though.

I think you should drive some cars and stop listening to What Car. You get low value for money - cars perceived as premium buys are NOT value for money at all.

i have driven a

citroen zx - crap

mercedes c class 200K - was good but you can tell its a heavy car, very good handling tho

vw golf 1.9tdi - great car

i drove some cheap cars when i was on holiday in india, suzukis, etc

i think my experience is valid enough to say the golf is a very nice car to drive

so are you telling us all you know more than what car? and people like myself who's family own different models of golfs??

You should apply for a motor journalism job with that level of experience tbh.

all the people that have done revies either gave the car 5 stars for everything or 1 star for everything

so its like marmite you either love it or hate it

put it this way, he wants a golf so he will be one of the 5 star people whereas fox doesnt so he is one of the 1 star people
