Thinking about getting a Golf GT

With respect if the only cars youve driven are a Citroen ZX and a Golf Mk5 no wonder you think the Golf is, in terms of a shining beacon in the world of cars, on a par with the second coming of Jesus.

Wow you've driven 3 cars in the UK? Ah, I take it all back and bow to your obviously superior experience in this area.

i have also sat in over 1000 cars, i know what a good car is, im only 22 do you expect me to have driven a million cars by now??? and what has the Uk have to do with it, are you telling me driving abroad doesnt count???

myself personally have never liked the idea of buying a second hand car, or second hand clothes, or second hand anything for that matter, you pay a premium for something brand new but i'd rather pay the premium and get something nobody else has touched rather than take the risk of some idiot owning it before and treating it like crap

I can't help but find it slightly tragic that someone only a year older than myself has that sort of mindset. I don't think anyone our age has the right to be like that, personally.

what about the merc c class???

i have also driven an bmw x5 in the uk too

I’d look for a 1/2 old one personally, this is coming from someone who bought a brand new golf.

Although if you were buying new I think it would be a GT sport you are getting which didn’t come out that long ago. I’m not sure what it has over the old GT though.

You can drive as little cars as you like but perhaps hold off declaring the Golf as the best ever until you've driven more than JUST the Golf?

what i dont like second hand stuff so that makes me have a bad mindset???

just because i aim higher than most people my age??

all the people that have done revies either gave the car 5 stars for everything or 1 star for everything

so its like marmite you either love it or hate it

put it this way, he wants a golf so he will be one of the 5 star people whereas fox doesnt so he is one of the 1 star people

No, people have 1-starred them because of the poor quality vehicles and dealerships, not because they don't like Golfs.

where did i say it was the best ever?? i said it was an etremely good car?? no car would ever win the best car ever award, because every car is different and suits different needs

you quite clearly just like to argue on these forums so, im gonna ignore you from now on

well with the 6 golfs that have been bought within my family circle in the past 4 years, only 2 have had slight problems

one of them the window fell in the door, like it was winded down but wouldnt come back up (electric windows) and i think one of the others had a problem with something underneath the drivers seat, i dont know the specifics, but both were fixed by the dealers with no problems, the dealers when you require a service will even pick up your car and then drop them off for you, i can say we have had more problems with our brand new mercedes and zero problems with our brand new golf

Aim higher? You don't even own a car! I've only noticed you in two threads and both threads you've come across as thinking you are a cut above everyone else and your posts have implied you think you are some sort of wealthy person. You are not your father.

Get your own car then you can be better than everyone else.

I used to be a bit like you when I first joined these forums. I thought I knew everything becuase I read What Car or whatever. Then I realised it made me look like an idiot and got out and actually drove some cars for myself and formed my own opinions. It's lots better.

Oh, and I'd 'prefer' new things if someone else bought me everything. When you start spending your own money though your priorities and tastes will change.

Strange, my mates Mk4 golf did exactly the same thing.

I've never known this to happen on any other car. (I'm sure it has though).

must have been a defect with some of them, i found it quite funny when my cousin told me, i was like how did that happen, i have also never heard of it happening before

it just shows you have no understanding of money

to somebody who has no grasp or concept of the value of money. A car recommended by What Car, with good reviews, good economy and good residuals looks like an excellent buy, hence your enthusiastic encouragement to the OP to buy it

But because you dont know the value of money, or apparently own a car for that matter. You cant even begin to imagine the ammount of work ordinay people would put in to have 18,000 pounds to spend on a car. And furthermore, how disappointed, if after all those long hours of overtime etc.. (you dont have £18,000 cash lieing about through dossing about after all) you only had a diesel golf hatchback to show for it.

Especially when you could save yourself so much more money, by buying something a couple of years older. But then, if you dont have to work for your money to buy cars, that wouldnt bother you.

my polo did exactly the same thing. Winder mechanism broke resulting in ithe glass falling off the runners and staying inside the door, even when the window was wound back up.
