This Business and Moment...

Still not really happy, has applied for other jobs but got nothing because of his high profile working for a FAANG company. Also he's on a very good salary with shares, stocks etc which others companies cant match.

Yeah he’ll likely be getting a lot of RSUs and stuff which will be pricing him out of reach of many other companies, however there will likely always be a couple who would be willing to poach him, it depends.

The key for me was finding good recruiters who have good relationships with clients in the field I wanted to be in, they’re usually able to work around problems like that if they think you’re going to be a good fit.

Just having a looking into ATS systems.

This comment simply shows why there's issues, this was advice taken from a CV site:
There’s nothing wrong with changing the job titles on your resume. All you’re doing is translating your job titles into the same language used by the hiring manager of the company you’re applying to.

Err - no. You can't claim to be a different role, simply because when the HR team then asks the company on your CV and it doesn't match.. only for you to be rejected.

Many ATS do not recognize tenses, plurals, synonyms, abbreviations, or other word variations.
The best way to determine which keyword variation you should include on your resume is to simply copy what’s written in the job description.
For example, if the keyword “manager” is used frequently in the job description but your resume says “Managed team of 11 engineers,” simply rewrite it to say “Manager of a team of 11 engineers.”

Except it doesn't make sense and you'd then be rejected due to grammar and English level.

So you can see that ATS systems are actually causing noise and loss of applicants.

What is funny is that:
1. You can mine the CVs/Resumes to understand keywords from ananomised job boards/linkedin
2. Define the best specification of the role to match the keywords
3. Then get a far better selection of applicants.

Currently it appears that a Job spec is made then used to filter against the CVs (lack of matches) that then require the CV to be re-written blindly to match the job specs.. which only reduces the number of applicant matches further.

ATS needs a re-think.

And now Mr Tax man thinks I owe them money based on their quick calculations. Still it's better than the 30+ grand they thought I owed, phoned and they corrected (computer error) so I'm assuming this is because someone is still thinking that the two roles over lapped.

I also had a nice message from Mr Tax man stating that I owed him 2.5k. Absolute scumbag that he is.

Didn't get the job I was hoping to escape to... apparently another candidate only asked for £10k less so I can't blame the company. Whether they work out is another question.

I'm not as hopeful about the role I'm interviewing for on Friday with a 20% payrise on offer - I might not have enough technical experience for it. But we'll see.

quite often if the candidate fails probation they will call you up and take the 10K hit.

Seems that an ATS system of indeed thinks a 2h39 one way commute is acceptable.

Second offer in last night, verbal + numbers, - written stuff expected to come though later tonight/tomorrow, (the deadline I gave was tomorrow night, as I don't want to string the other company along for too long, as it's also an awesome option)

Both choices are totally different directions for my life, so this is probably the hardest decision I've ever had to make.

Also funny, since I handed my notice in - some people are being really weird and toxic with me :D

Yep, it's quite an eye opener :D

Yeah I know lol :D I think it varies with the quality of the company, when I quit a really good company a few years back (one of my life's regrets) it was all sitting around chatting and playing games, winding down, chilling out - etc.

With this, people are being really toxic all of a sudden,

but I don't give a ****.

Out of the blue I get a LinkedIn - a recruiter with a company that thinks my experience is right up their alley.

Rather than rush a response as I had to dash, I'll contact them tomorrow.

Just googled the role - blinking security vetted. The vetting isn’t the issue, but I want to be sure the culture and scope is open enough to not get bored/frustrated.
Not that I want to mess up the process but I was friends/housemate with the MD’s hubby and her until we life and geography got in the way.

Well that was positive. Less money (unsurprisingly with the current economy) but I'm ok with that - better than a poke in the eye, keeps me out of trouble plus they're quite flexible. They're also aware of my previous company - hence the positivity.

CV to go in, possible couple of interviews after next week - and it's Friday afternoon :D

I'm now officially on gardening leave - they're going through a massive 50%+ redundancy process which I saw coming as mile off and handed my notice in before this drama happened (no enhanced package I would have gained nothing by playing the game).

Because I'm a bit of a disruptor (positive disruptor honest!) they gave me a choice to hand my stuff in and be on full pay until my official leaving date. It's a horrible toxic environment (at board level - everyone else is sound, at least those that haven't left already!). So I'm delighted they offered me a chance to leave.

Taking a pretty significant pay cut (~20k) but life will be better and I'll be happier (I hope!), so it is what it is.

Oh it's all good - the place was a horrible place to work. I'm glad I jumped ship! Work / life balance is more important to me than a big salary or title. It means no more 2.5 hr commutes each way either!

Know that feeling. It's sad/bad when board members and their minions are actively looking to engineer failure within the organisation to succeed. Tolerance or celebrating that "competitive" nature is detrimental to the organisation as a whole. However it seems you're positive so that good. I know what you mean by a positive disruptor so hopefully the next place celebrates/rewards it.

It was funny that the HR recruiter that phoned on friday wasn't phased by the < 2 year fired etc and said that's a normal way to cut sizes now.. which did stick in my brain as he referred to the delivery as a project rather than a product :D So I get the feeling that this may be a "sort the mess out" for something that they've already developed (badly). I'm going to take them at their word that this is not a technical position (product cloud software.. really?). If it is a sort the mess out.. I should be happy as Larry but they may not approve of the disruption :D
