This Business and Moment...

I spoke with Roger, the professor on Friday for 2 hours. I love the guy. He's the one who's studied emotion, engagement and learning links for 10 years and would love to be a part of what we're doing. After a good chat, he's coming on board as an equity partner and I'm drawing up the contracts at the moment... fun times!! Well excited to be honest, he's sucha good person to have on board.

I like multiple monitors, but that's probably because I've not had anything else.

We're moving soon and the wife has found a house she likes and says we need to look etc. it doesn't look like it will have an office, which I have said is a prerequisite. She said I can have one at the side of a room like the lounge... I put my foot down and said no, I need to be able to talk on the phone without people wandering about and coming in. No chance.
I can't wait to have a proper space to kit out more.

It's a difficult one really on that, there is a lot of change going on in the industry with cloud offerings and such.

I've had a busy week, with new starter and contracts being sorted out, he's virtually meeting the team this Friday. I've also got a call scheduled on Tuesday with someone more technical, he's a spark/ cassandra tech guy, who I'd like to manage the systems and sit below Professor Roger and Infra Dave.
Interviewing part time CFOs at the moment as well, got a couple lined up. Need someone to sort that **** out so I don't have to.

Got another pilot of our software arranged last night, that's currently 3 lined up since the start of 2017 and have 2 more demos tomorrow and a couple of follow ups. Need to work so hard this next few weeks to pull all this in. Had 2 people now email us asking when our D2L Learning Management System plugin will be ready, which means we need to get one knocked out sharp.

I am so tired and full of cold, but it's manic! I jsut want to sack off cooking for the wife and go to sleep lol plus side I just booked my flights to US next month, takes me back over to BA Silver tier again. I'm currently Gold, but going back down to Bronze would have been just too much #needloungeaccess

Also, left side of my body is ******. Elbow clicking, knee in pain and thumb hurts. Need to find time to get to the doctors this week for scans, just don't know when I'll have the time.

I know what you mean about not wanting to let it lie, chucking it in because it got hard wouldn't be something I could do, regardless. Yet, you have to have a balance of your personal health at the same time and sometimes be a little bit less stubborn (pot kettle black here).
If you can't, try and find your rhythm of not expecting to deliver xyz when set out, but work to your own set out milestones as you have said. Will they kick you out if you don't have the answers? Is it expected, or have you told them that you don't before and you can't get the answers with ABC?

I'd just try and be like, look you all know this is a **** show, managing it is a **** show and it's all ****. I'm picking the stuff we can hit out of this sinking steaming pile and I challenge you to do any better in this situation.

I know the feeling. I hate to lose.

I'm just in the office, awkward as I have a demo for emotuit while in the novartis office as it's with Singapore and the only time they're up. Ah well, no one is in the office at the moment anyway. Just want to nail this one and it'll be a nice finish to the week.

Yea, it's hard also though, as 30 days really isn't enough time to make the best out of a system that is data driven, due to sample sizing etc, but I'm hoping it's enough to get them to want to use it more and then go on to purchase. As we're "new" and the tech is pretty new, we're very flexible in our sales process, but when we're rolled out a lot more and our brand is well known in this area, we can afford to be less so and very much you want it, pay for it. These 23296364 people are, so...
A lot of hand holding through the pilot phase though, and with a fair number about to kick off, it'll be hectic managing all of that, but we we see how it goes.

Still a gutter though, no one likes any sort of rejection. On to the next one!

I'm supposed to be on holiday at the moment skiing, but I'm currently working. I pulled my back out anyway, and can't currently walk properly, so skiing is probably out the question.

I met with a potential last night for a CFO with us, as we really need to get someone to look after all of that side of things, I hate it. He was really good. I really got on with him and he had a great understanding of us and our business. I'm going to put together something to see if we can take him on as a part time CFO, if the rest of the board agree. (They normally just go along with me, which is annoying, I like a debate!)
Meeting a guy today about a data scientist role, see what he's like. On paper he looks fantastic, but you never know in reality what that means...

Also, if anyone fancies working their arse off in their spare time for a stake in our amazing business: https://angel.co/emotuit/jobs/215037-senior-software-engineer

Profile:
Ruby/Rails, AngularJS, Javascript, Webpack, Git, RSpec, Karma, Jasmine

And usual stuffs.

Need more people, too much work, not enough folk.

I don't think a lot of people understand that we're like dogs and sometimes just need a good patting.

I'm having an emotionally tough week, we're supposed to be on holiday, I put my back out and have been pretty ruined but working as I need to. This is not really understood, and causes some tension at home with the wife. I don't think anyone could understand the stress and pressure that is felt in this position unless they've done it. Sigh. Just venting. As you were.

Well done dude! Great news!!
Today is my last day as a 2nd Line Analyst!! Been doing this job for just over 2 years and so happy to finally be moving on!

Tomorrow, I'll be putting on my Operational Security hat and it's going to be AWESOME!! :D

I'm signed off from work for 2 weeks with a back issue, which is great :/ I'm trying to get emotuit work done while I'm off but being at home the wife is just huffing and puffing that I'm here... think she thinks I'm milking it but it bloody hurts.

I've been given a helper (the old IT guy) to setup a load of hardware, but it seems he struggles with basic written instruction so I've spent 2 hours writing a script that should install everything in the right order and cut down on 'fix time' for me :(

3 hours sleep before work...

What are you setting up? Surely you could WDS that lot out, piece of cake.

Man I've been flat out, just back from Austin and need to try and catch up with everything. It's so hard to keep all these plates spinning. Especially with my back ****** like it is. Painkillers I'm on space me out which is a mission to focus!

Hope new job is going well Phate?

Wicked, great to hear. I'm hammering out what I can, but a lot of effort on interviewing people to join us and not enough time on sales. Saying that I've been putting more content out there, doing some planning for bettering our system design and also charming some people to get us some free PR as well as warm leads at some Unis. My list is never ending. It's killer.

We specify in education, really. Mainly as it's action through learning. So, we essentially do engagement analytics for online learning, pointing out currently where people are engaged or not in the content and where content can be improved. In theory, it could be used for anything, but the way we look at student data, we're looking for personal queues into how students react/ answer certain things, and we look for responses in exactly how people are responding and using big data patterns around that to look for patterns in their behaviour.

Short answer :p

ASIDE: I think I might have lined up another developer to work with us, and another bunch of 10 candidates to go through now, as I'm looking for a total of 2 developers and 2 data scientists. Then we'd be up to 9 people...! :o and I'm talking to a person I think would be perfect for the sales role. Now to just secure this bloody grant, so I don't lose my house :p

This recruiting lark is taking me a whole heap of ages. Good news, I interviewed a few really good people recently. The CFO I have been speaking to for a while I'm trying to tie up contract arrangements still but getting there.

I need to concentrate on more sales, this is time sucking but needed.

Looking at my travel schedule this year and I'm currently looking at:

- April - Boston
- May - SLC
- June - South Carolina
- June - San Antonio
- July - New Orleans
- Oct - Philidelphia
- Nov - Orlando

UGHHH

Man I'm tired. I tend to nail the weeks and then try and catch up friday night/ sat morning and my wife lets me have a nice lie in. Yet this weekend she had some cakes to get finished, so the kids decided they would just scream and run around like **** bags, which meant I was up at 8 anyway. Sunday was my wife's birthday, she was like stay in bed, we'll do presents later, but that would have been harsh. Coupled with that I've been sleeping like **** and I don't know why, so I'm currently feeling beat.

Work stuff is going really well, just need to block more sales time out in my day really. My contract position is very busy at the moment, too, so it's a case of trying to fit it all in. I've been eating like crap as well, because when you're tired, you just want to eat ****. Now trying to sort out a balance of looking after myself and working, without forgetting I have a family.

Needed a monday rant :p

^^ Good luck! Keep us posted ;)

I had a **** working weekend, which is great for seeing the family and that but I'm so behind with everything. We have a ticket for an internal dashboard, which was "done" with just a basic table listing out details... yet doesn't fill my criteria set out in the ticket, with wireframes. So need to get that pushed quicker, while recruiting for more people (it takes soooooo damn long).

UGH.

Random one though; Someone from the Learning team at Novartis Pharma here in Basel asked to meet me to talk about what we're doing. We haven't branched into the Corp Learning space currently due to dev effort for the integrations, but if I could put this in with a project cost and then yearly license on top, it would be a winner. Meeting him after work tonight.
