This Business and Moment...

So after being rejected from the two IT roles I interviewed for Munich 2 weeks ago, I had another 4 phone interviews last week. 2 for the same company.

One was for a IT role in Düsseldorf, I got the times wrong, I was called an 1 hour earlier than expected. So I was completely unprepared, 30mins of questions I didn't have the answers to as I didn't have time to print my paper work off. Might aswell right off that interview as not successful.

2 interviews for a role I originally applied for in Germany but they want me to go for the same role in Ireland. I dont see the point moving from England from Ireland as that's not going to help me learn a 2nd language. But I see what happens if I get called up for an 3rd interview.

Applied for an Technical IT Manager role in Switzerland, had a phone interview last week. The lady was impressed with my CV. Got the confirmation she had forwarded my CV and certs to her bosses and will be in touch for another interview. Got a phone call this morning from them, me thinking if they are calling me then it must be good news. Same lady was on the phone, very apologetic. She tried to convince her bosses otherwise but they said they dont want to continue with my application because they feel I am over qualified for the role, I will get bored after a few months and leave :(

Over 2 years I spent self studying for my MCSA's and MCSE. For that to come back and bite me on the arse.....I am so annoyed :(

Had an interview for an IT role in Sweden last week, emailed me today for an 2nd Skype interview next week. Lets hope I can make it through the 2nd interview this time!

Didnt make it through to the next round for the role in Ireland, which I dont mind as thats a location I dont want to move to. The Swedish IT role is more senior anyway.....still annoyed about the Switzerland job though!

Job interview on Tuesday, large Government organisation and on promotion, same field but substantially more responsibility and a salary package to match.

Need to revise legislation for potential questions, it's the only part of the role where I need to brush up on as it's a specific remit and without exposure to the organisation from the inside it's very difficult to figure out how they do, what they do.

Fingers crossed, last 2 times I've posted in here it was a success, 3rd times a charm!

@Maccy just got back from Sweden!

Good luck dude! Keep us updated!

Not heard if my contract is being renewed or not yet for my contract position at Novartis. Hope it is, I can't be arsed to go through all that crap finding another day job! Hopefully find out soon anyway...

Had a bit of a stressful one, to the point my wisdom teeth were flaring up. For some reason I get terrible teeth problems when I'm stressed... had 2 wisdom teeth out already as they were going sideways and every time I was stressed the slight inflammation caused me epic pain. Anyyyyway, had another wisdom tooth yanked, so lets see if that does the trick.

SaveNode has been moving forward, but trying to get the people to actually do what they were supposed to is a bitch. We employed a company to do this work for dev, but they just didn't get it. Even after all my documentation. So after weeks of saying they would demo the work in 4 days etc. I sacked them. Meant I had to go backwards and the SNO token has taken a huge hit, but hey. We're in the long game. We will be releasing our multi currency crypto wallet soon, so we're taking on the dev work ourselves, and seeing who we can hire :)

My current work load is on documentation of the backend systems and hiring some people if I can. We've been added to Delta Direct, so you can get SaveNode updates direct to your phone via Delta now. Works really well.

VolAir app work is going really well, it's looking super slick. Like, from idea, to UI mockups to what's been delivered is 98% spot on the same. A lot is actually better!
Here's last month's update, we've done a lot more on the detail and home page to make sure all the typography is correct and you can favourite locations, planes, airports and now we're finishing off the search element, (huge amounts of data to sort well) and then hooking it up to allow our partners to input promotions and stuff. Really cracking on now...

Raised like $0 though, which is always fun, but we're lining up a few institutional investors to speak to once we've released the app so see how that goes. We can launch and run it without funds, and each flight that is booked using our app we make money on, so that's all good. Would be nice to have a marketing / payroll budget though.

emotuit was going pretty well, with one uni finally supposed to release last month and another one wanting to roll us out, but then it's gone all quiet. This is edtech. Welcome to the fun of delays and empty wallets. Hope I can pull these 2 deals in, it'd boost us a huge amount, if not just in the PR front.

Path need to email the attorney about this and will do it today, still haven't signed a partner agreement with Badgr. Think it comes back to bloody EdTech/ Education, but hey. I've been busy anyway and one of the founders just got promoted at work, so he's been super busy.

Goat Cash the one thing that started as test contracts for VolAir has probably got the most done since we started!
I did an update of what we've achieved in the last 3 months and while sometimes it feels like not much, it's a huge amount.

Our game is 90% there, so that's the second release and with over 50k images uploaded to our current dApp, that's pretty cool!

In our telegram, we have people who keep asking "When Binance?" and if you know crypto, you'll know that it's the largest exchange there is, with $1b daily volume. Now, we had a few beers one lunch and one of my mates/ cofounders bet me a bottle of vintage Petrus that I couldn't get Goat Cash on Binance. Now, I see that as a huge carrot (it could have been for a 10er, I'd still do it) and so made it my mission to do so. Fast forward a couple of days of me trying to connect with the CEO of Binance and I ended up chatting to him one Thursday night. Explained what we do, where we're going, and that we'd love to chat about listing and he wants to stay in touch :D I told my mate I'm getting that ******* bottle!!

Anyway, that's my update/ brain dump. Back to working from home waiting for the plumbers to arrive and fix my burst pipe.

On you go!

@Delvis If you can drink 8 pints and still work is the first thing we look for in a team member :D well, for GOAT anyway. That's a prerequisite. We're hiring someone for Goat Cash to help us get some games out and push out GoatMEX, which will be sweet. Description here: https://goat.cash/2018/10/30/were-hiring-senior-javascript-developer-remote/

We're looking for someone for SaveNode like: https://www.savenode.io/jobs

Both are ideals, would take someone who wants to learn but has a good base. Basically side project stuff at the moment, but hey!

New boss started in August and promised that he'd sort out my pay deficit (my colleague at a sister site is paid £12k more, despite starting later and is under-performing in comparison). Turns out the last boss was notoriously tight, so our site got short changed in the wage department. Wasn't until he left that the wildly different pay across the site came out so a number of people are affected. Mine just happens to be on a bigger scale.

How long before I request an update? It feels like another year will have passed before it's resolved and the extra money would be the difference between staying a while or moving on.

:(

How long has it been since it was last mentioned?

Don't sit on it. If its been since August you definitely have a right to mention it IMO. Especially if he promised. I would mention it again and see about getting a date for a follow up for example

EVH "Hi, you know before back in August we discussed that matter regarding my pay?"
Him "Ah yes, you're right I'll get on that"
EVH "Ok great, any ideas on when I can expect an update?"

That way if the date comes and goes you have grounds to bring it up again! :)

It went well but I wouldn't be fussed if I didn't get it.

Wonder if that means the role isn't for me, odd feeling tbh - the interviewers were not very experienced and it was very poorly structured.

So I got promoted recently to product/sector manager. The guy above me got shifted sideways to a different role, so now I lead the department. At the same time a colleague was promoted from a similar position to me to business development manager.

The way the business works is that roles are only loosely defined, but it seems that this guy has taken his promotion as being on the same level as me and now we're butting heads. For example, he took it upon himself to define the roles of the team and send it out to upper management, which I can't get my head around. He seems to work on the basis that you send out the email as soon as possible so that no one else can get there first.

I ended up responding to that email basically saying, as sector manager it's my responsibility to define what my team is doing. He's not even really in the team, but I don't want to be too discouraging to him and say that.

I think he's got a big chip on his shoulder. Frankly, I do too. We're doing different jobs but with similarities, but he's a few years older than me and has more experience and I don't think he wants to accept that management put me in charge.

Just wanted to vent! It's made me pretty annoyed today.

I would be too tbh @dirtychinchilla

I was just in a project meeting to discuss the rebirth of the project where I am the application service manager for the current operational software. (It was previously rolled out to Cambridge, US and supposed to be Basel too but the project team sucked and it went on hold. I got brought in to manage the operational side in between that.)
Now, I am technically not a part of the project team, I'm on operations, yet they listed me as the application specialist... I'm not, I'm an ASM. The whole project delivery has been moved to be under a new team, so I went to my boss (she isn't really, but she's like 2 levels up and signs my timesheets, but she's moving to another role now too...) and asked, firstly; Who is my boss? Answer: I should know that, but I don't. Maybe you'll be under PHI? (the new team taking over)
I also asked: Why am I listed in the project team, when I'm not supposed to do that? Will that be my role? Or...? Answer: No idea.
And: Will I have a contract renewal in Jan? Answer: Hopefully, not sure, we'll have to see where you're going to be...

Ha! So basically I don't know who my boss is, what my job is, or if I'll even have one in Jan! It'll be more annoying if it wasn't so normal for this place.

Kind of in a tricky situation with my job at the minute. It's a first line support which pays £21k. I feel I can get closer to £24-25k elsewhere. Been here just over 2 years and no real chance of progressing. I passed my A+ test and employer has agreed to pay for Security+ and a Citrix course. I love the company and the people in it but it's the pay that puts me off. Even though I have a Comp. Sci degree, I never felt confident in my development skills hence never looked at that path and would prefer to stay in a support/admin roll. How do you guys find jobs abroad? Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Depends what your priorities are, progression, salary, learning, work life balance... but it sounds like you want to move on and up. For jobs abroad you can check out the likes of indeed and jobserve. That's what I tend to use.

Got an interview on Friday for a Project Accountant role (with the company that just won a London Underground contract), I think it will be great for me in terms of progression and to put on the CV, I just can't get my head around how quick I'll be shown the door if they decide Brexit is crap for them.

Wish I was still living at home so it didn't matter :D
