This Instant And Moment - 2024!

Leicester Royal Infirmary’s parking is a joke. Took my dad an hour and 7 mins from the left turn and he still wasn’t in the car park. There is only one entrance. No issues with spaces as top two levels of multi storey car park had loads of spaces.

Used to be three buses per hour stopping outside LRI. It went to twice an hour, now it’s hourly!

I feel sorry for those who live in places with no buses or require regular treatment such as chemo etc

This morning was pretty cold,

I was leaving the house at 5am and i could not defrost my car, managed to get it defrosted, although my door would then not shut

That time of year again

Christmas is like Valentine's Day Part 2. So it is very couples focus rather than family focus.

New Years everything shut for a couple of days where everyone goes to temples to make a wish for good luck from midnight. New Years is more family focus.

There are winter illuminations around the country, you can go see one of those near you. https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2304.html

There is no Turkey...there is Christmas KFC (pre-order required).

There is a german market Japanese edition outside the grounds in Tokyo Skytree.

Other than that, it is Japan as usual.
Great thanks, me and the Mrs are there over Christmas and New year's and the week after. Kyoto for new years tokyo and hakone after.

Any resturants you recommend so we csn get bookings in early.

For Kyoto...if you are feeling flushed, you have to try Keiseki. It is Japanese version of their tasting menu. Lots of courses, seasonal local produce, meticulously made and presented.

This one in Kyoto is nice.

This tempura restaurant in Kyoto is also very good.

For Tokyo...for something up market without breaking the bank....and I think if you love sushi, an omekase is a must. Sushi Tokyo Ten is good. A normal omekase, where the chef chooses all the pieces of fish for you, normally costs £200, £300 per person. This place is more reasonable, about £90 per person. about 14 courses when I went. Go to the Raponngi branch, it's less busy.

You can reserve here.

Brilliant thank you.

Brilliant thank you.
A tip.

Don't use Google reviews on Google maps as the barometer of quality. Instead, use tabelog.

Table log is more Japanese focus, but in doing so, you need to shift your expectations and understand how the Japanese rate things. Essentially, a decent meal that is as expected....2.5 star. That is the middle of the road. Also, nobody is perfect, so there will be no 5 stars given, or VERY rare.

This means a 3.5 star is an excellent meal or a good restaurant. A 4 star+ is going to blow your socks off.

Also, check out this video.

Sushi Tokyo Ten in Roppongi is in a kind of shopping mall not far from the station I recall, downstairs in the same building has a large Muji, a Japanese ikea.

Check it out, they sell some unique snacks too. Their chocolate puffs are great, as are the chocolates cover yoghurts, the candy floss in a bag is fun (but as expected), or you can get a variety of dried fish and squid as a snack :p

So as I said in an earlier post I was thinking of subscribing to this:

but my ACM membership lapsed and if I renew that for $240 a year it works out as getting O'reilly for just five months of payments. Plus loads of other really nice additions and features.

This instant .. it's lunch but this afternoon I will order some electrical components for amplifier build for the Mrs to give me for my xmas pressie (I've been waiting for a while).

Might be heading back to the UK to meet the new CFO which coincides with the Christmas do. Would only head back for the day, but the dilemma i have is whether to tell anyone else about it!

The office is the same town as some family and so i feel bad not telling them i'm heading back but not sure i can be bothered! Then also wondering whether i should let mates know and meet in Manchester for a few beers, but again i'm not sure i could be bothered doing that and means grabbing a hotel in Manchester on the Friday night which would be extortionate.

Saw two cute little hedgehogs in the garden and shared a picture to the family WhatsApp. I was feeling cheery to have charismatic wildlife about, until my mum pointed out that they were too small to survive winter. So now I have two hedgehogs in a cat carrier, and I'm waiting to hear back from a hedgehog rescue place.

Glad I checked my German on Google Translate though, apparently I had the word for second 'zweiten' mixed up with the word for hermaphrodite 'Zwitter'...

So, anyway, none of the Hedgehog rescue places have any spaces so we now have these two little guys for the winter:

"Bean" - he refused to unroll for a photo:

and "Twigly" - she was more co-operative

(They were named by nephews, who are 9 and 11. My sister wanted to call the second one "Gone")
