Thoughts on this build?

@orbitalwalsh msi b450i has 6*40A... hopefully b550 will have at least 6*50A at minimum.

But hopefully they'll put better vrms for the mini itx boards...so maybe 6*60A? Lol...

Thought they were ir3556 units in the ITX

Actually ir3555 60amp

And your right about ram prices, they are increasing from Ram producers , 5-7% this week . Expect to rise a little higher . After doing stock for the old man in AMD, looking at ram producers now

@orbitalwalsh ah yes, my bad. you're right. they are 6*60A in the msi b450i. it's the asus b450-e and the msi b450 pro carbon that used the 40A stages.
so yeah...maybe aorus b550i will keep the 6*70A stages from the x570i...one can hope lol

MSI really did shoot themselves in the foot . Only thing that is a negative is slightly older generation IR design .

And the heatsink is quite small

hah. yes they did indeed. their b550 design has to be better than the b450 else no one would buy it lol. hopefully it means that other board vendors will pick up their efforts too...

That's the grey area for MSI, some of their x570 aren't to high in terms of VRM .
Wouldn't be surprised if they just add B550 Chipset and better heatsink and cool it a day .

@orbitalwalsh

Have you heard through your silicon grape vine the rumoured b550 Q release date - is it late Q4 of this year or early Q1 of next?

And stop talking about fans and b550s in the same sentence - I'm still waking up, let me dream a little more...

you can dream of the fans whirring away :p
especially those small whiny ones ;)
I dozed off and woke to that - gonna doze right off again and pretend I didn't read and set my sandman on you.

Nothing yet . Have a feeling not to hurt x470/b450 clearance and x570 sales
@orbitalwalsh your zen powers are slipping (channel the force more} - and the bxstxrds have just released new MAX boards so that doesn't bode well for Q4.

now just dream of 2 of those tiny whiny fans at full pelt... one on either side of your ear :)
the nice cool breeze...

AND THE NOISE!!!

;)

i'm sure we can wait 6 months for b550...can't we plec? lol :D

Can someone confirm the memory is fine before I buy, thanks.
my 2p:

ryzen 3900x
gigabyte x570 aorus elite OR asus TUF gaming x570 plus (£210ish) OR asus tuf gaming x570 plus wifi (£240 - if you want wifi)
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT BLS2K16G4D32AESB 32 GB Kit (16 GB x 2) (£140)
Corsair RM750x 80 PLUS Gold (£80.51)
geforce 2080 super (~£675 when released this week?)
corsair mp 510 960gb (£130 inc shipping - check manufacturer site for details)
Scythe SCMG-5100 Mugen 5 Rev.B (£43 - ocuk)
Phanteks Eclipse P600S Silent Midi Tower Case - Black= £127.99

works out at around the same price as your spec above, but with:
better ram
bigger psu and cheaper
nearly as good cpu cooler at half the cost of the d15
monster GPU (2080 super) from the cost savings

Like this is solid, rtx 2080 super is £700 and will increase slightly with price depending on stock .

System should be quiet !

@Plec just saw the Max boards, 32mb bios, think x570 have 128mb . Key thing with b450 is not to update them ! Haha

Cant remember if gigabytes bios chips are like z390 which are removable , and then you've got dual bios chips

Don't forget the AM4 bracket as that one doesn't include it. The one in my spec is the AM4 version but it is out of stock.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £9.97 (includes shipping: £3.48)

Thanks, I had no idea.

Do I need to buy any more power cables? I read the 2070 cards don't come with any, I'm assuming the PSU will have them?

The RAM, is 3000mhz enough, doesn't the 3000 series CPUs need 3200mhz+ ?
