Tinnitus who suffers from it

Mine is getting worse lately. It used to be that if I was concentrating on something like reading, watching a movie etc i wouldn't notice it. Now i notice it all the time if i'm indoors. Oddly being outside makes it disappear.

The vest thing to do is not to think, talk or acknowledge it :)

I'll often go days/weeks, then go 'get,not heard it in a while!'......'oh wait....'*eeeeeeeeeeeee*

Posted originally in this thread almost 4 years ago now. And not much has really changed with my tinnitus. Still there, and still ringing in both ears :p it has got slightly worse. But nothing I can't ignore. :D

Squish the plug between your fingers, then gently pull the top part of your ear, while holding your ear insert the plug keeping the top of your ear held while the plug inflates in your ear.

For anyone else needing some cheap great plugs check out a brand called earsoft FX. I use them for work. They're brilliant.

That seems a bit more complicated than how this video shows. Although these ones arent foam.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m7cgMJitNt0

I've got #7 in my right ear at the moment. Has been for about a month or so now. Can only hear it when it's quiet but it's still annoying.

I'm a sound engineer in my spare time, so tinnitus is literally so annoying to have.

I've had it probably last 8ish years? I noticed it back then and probably caused by loud clubs every weekend.

I never blasted my ears with earphones etc but used to go out every weekend.

I always wear earplugs in clubs now, wear protection people. Who gives a **** if it's "uncool".

trust me on this.

Sometimes I'll get a very slight ring in my ear randomly, about once every two weeks, sometimes even once a week.

I only ever notice it if I focus on it.
Would that be a form of Tinnitus? Or is Tinnitus constant, like all the time?

Just curious is all.

I think that's apparently fluid draining out of your inner ear causes that, tinnitus is constant ringing or whooshing sound.

Had it about 4 or 5 years. Only really noticable when in bed. Hoever Mrs keeps a fan on all night as she has breathing problems so I only notice it when the fan is switched off.

Really high pitched whine. Just hope it don't get worse. No idea how I got it although I worked in and around speedway bikes for years so maybe that did it.

Ive had it since childhood I think (or as long as I can remember). I don't know anything different. It's not loud but is 24/7 and deafening in silence.

Well, fairly good news at the moment. I went to the doctor couple of days ago who looked inside my ears to check any remnants of wax and she said nope, absolutely clear and that my ears innards looked fine. We were hoping to see something that might be the cause, like fluid or wax. She said she was a bit concerned that the ringing hadn't gone yet but that I should give it some time, there's still a chance it can go away. I asked if it's worth seeing an ENT but she said not really. I came out feeling rather low tbh with only a glimmer of hope.

The rest of that day, the ringing was so aggressively loud it was depressing. However, I had to get up early that day so didn't get much sleep and it seems to be worse when I'm tired. Fortunately so far, the ringing itself hasn't actually keep me awake, so that's something.

I've stayed away from loud music for a few days and today after a goodnight's sleep, the ringing is very calm. Not non existent, but not drawing my attention to it as much. So let's hope this is the start of it going away!

So i received the ear plugs from amazon, im not sure how far to put them in? Should they just go as far as earphones(not the in ear ones)?

How are you getting on with them? I received mine today. I've been trying the grey and gold filters, but I feel like I'm going to tear the plugs as the filters take some pushing and pulling to fit and remove. I pull my ear up, insert with the plastic applicator, and rotate it about 4 times. But, it only really feels like it's doing something (almost muffling) if I then push them a bit further in with my finger. But then it starts to get difficult to remove, and it also hurts my ear a bit. Hmm, I don't think I'm meant to push them in further than what is comfortable.

Are you doing that, and have you found much difference between the grey and the gold? I've got 3 gigs this weekend, so i'm definitely going to be using them.

I just use the standard foam ear plugs are gigs, muffles it but I'm usually at gigs which are stupidly loud so it tends to sound fine :p

When I pushed mine in, probably harder than I'm meant to, I was getting more of the muffled sound that I'd get with bog standard foam plugs. It made me feel like my ears are being dampened properly. But I guess that's wrong for these particular plugs, as the point of these is to reduce decibels without muffling. But my fear is if my ears aren't getting the proper damping if it doesn't sound a bit muffled. Anyway, I'm not going to force them any further than they naturally go.

I tried them on the weekend with the white filter and noticed a bit of a difference. Theres a vid on youtube from the manufactuer that shows how to insert them. My right ear which has the ringing is quite blocked so i am a bit relectant to use them in that ear until the wax falls out. Also, the ringing is worse with a blocked ear and yes it is worse when tired/stressed.

Yes the filters are a pain to get in but the material is very flexible. I did email the company to find out how far to insert them, reply below.

The earplugs sit correctly, when the edge of the larger lamella of the earplug is still only a little bit visible at the entrance of the ear canal and you can still grab the stem to remove the earplug.

Yes
Had it for probably 5 years
Being a moron at high school and listening to music too loud + going to concerts with no ear buds
Yes it annoys me
It is a high pitched ringing

I'm 19 :(

Had mine since I was about 5, 20 years of constant tinnitus and I've gotten used to it but when I lie in bed and concentrate on it it's super loud.

A lot of the time it's louder for people because of built up wax or something. For me it got significantly worse when my ear was perforated and I just didn't know it.

Yeah my right ear is blocked and its certainly more noticablrnoticeable at the moment.

Thanks, I'll just insert them comfortably, as they naturally sit. I rotate them so that when I remove the applicator it doesn't start to pull the plugs out a bit. You probably know this already, but for maximum protection, the gold ones are meant to cut the most dB, followed by the grey, and then white is the lowest.

Just a FYI, the nurse who irrigated my ears said that bog standard olive oil is the best as ear drops. She said wax falls out more easily. I threw away both my cerumol, and boots version of otex which I hardly used after she said that. She said I don't need to buy olive oil ear drops from the chemist, I can buy olive oil from the supermarket, which is generally cheaper and a lot more liquid. Doesn't need to be heated or sterilised as some people suggest. I just kept the dropper from the cerumol and washed it, so it can be used with the olive oil.
