TitanZ: delayed indefinitely?

Exactly. If the Xbox One's initial presentation could be summed up as 'Watch TV, TV, TV', Nvidia's Titan-Z presentation certainly is 'Gaming, gaming, gaming', and that is mind boggling. And I say that because they had the last month whilst the card was delayed to fix their PR message, yet they didn't.

And here we are, the Titan-Z has launched, with a presentation video full of "gaming", but they didn't sample the card to any major tech media outlet for review. No Anand, TR, TechPowerUP, HardOCP, Tom's, Guru3D, PC Perspektive, Hardware Canucks, etc.

But this is the most baffling one:

So, we basically get to know that Nvidia doesn't really want to market this card to gamers, as is apparent by their actions, but they say exactly the opposite in their presentation. One thing is for certain, they don't want the card to be thoroughly reviewed, and that is a shame.

I hope one or two sites will find a way to get one or possibly fork out the money for one and do a review.

Also, what exactly did they spend the last month doing ? Improving 4K performance ? Does anybody know ?

Well that's is that then.

The water cooled version could be interesting.

Nvidia never sent the Titan Black to mainstream review sites either saying it wasn't a gaming card, as this card is two of them it makes sense they are taking the same approach.

Not a gaming card? Oddly enough it uses their gaming brand "GeForce", it's been demo'd running games, has an sli connecter for those insane enough to buy 2 for more gaming performance.

Even their own site has a lengthy waffle on it being a gaming gpu

GeForce GTX TITAN and GeForce GTX TITAN Black stormed the industry by offering supercomputer class performance to enthusiast gamers, for the most demanding titles. On the desktop, they delivered unmatched gaming performance on 3840x2160 “4K” screens, whilst remaining cool and quiet with industry-leading power efficiency.

Think NVidia need to wind their necks in a bit, its undoubtedly a gaming card regardless of what way they try and spin it.

And here's their new video on it, "built for gamers with the most extreme pc rigs".

You'd be surprised at how many people salivate at marketing and then get the biggest payday lone in history to get the item marketed.

Nvidia just happen to be really good at marketing, thats how they are able to price these things where intelligent people are dumb founded in amazement.

Those 2 MSI 290X @ £350 each (£700 both), that was an offer here few days ago, do look like a great bargain of the century :)

And in comparison for the price of the Titan Z.

1 Titan Z
2 295X2 (and £200 left)
3 Titan Black
5 GTX780Ti
6 R9 290X
~7 GTX780
~8 R9 290

:D

They may be marketing it as a gaming card to boost sales, but all I am saying is the reason the Titan Black was never given to review sites in advance was because they didn't consider it primarily a gaming card and that seems to be replicated here.

TBH if it was supposed to be a primarily gaming card they could have just removed DP compute like they have on the 780 line, then they could have sold it for £1.5k without damaging their compute line. But then GTX790 will be here soon and it would have clashed with that (who knows maybe that's what GTX790 is /pray).

In fairness, it's marketed at both types of consumer: http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/introducing-nvidia-geforce-gtx-titan-z

For enthusiast small form factor systems, like GeForce GTX Battleboxes, the GTX TITAN Z is the only game in town, delivering unbeatable gaming performance for chassis that lack the required room for standard SLI configurations. If you’re looking for your own performance powerhouse, like a Battlebox, hold fast: we’re working with our partners to refresh the Battlebox program with custom-made chassis are perfect for GTX TITAN Z. For further details stay locked to GeForce.com in the coming weeks.

For researchers scientists and CUDA developers, GeForce GTX TITAN Z delivers unprecedented computational power in an ATX-compatible form factor, at a fraction of the cost of a traditional supercomputer.
