Today's mass shooting in the US

Something I find interesting watching law enforcement body cam in the US, probably similar in other countries as well but I think more extreme in the US. They used to be very uncoordinated, these days you have a smattering of officers with very high situational awareness and coordination skills but struggle with getting the message through, and must find it frustrating, with too many others who just don't listen/chaos as to who is in command, etc.

Same with the ASP guys when dealing with local PD at a scene - some exceptions aside they really know what they are doing but they really have to be pushy to make sure everyone is following safe procedures, etc.
You’ve usually got a combination of State, County and Town law enforcement mixed together at larger incidents who other have different comms and procedures.

Add in former military (or National Guard) that have seen a deployment or two in Iraq or Afghanistan alongside quiet, poorly trained town cops who only draw weapons for their annual qualification shoot and you have a recipe for chaos.

It's only terrorism if it's done due to political, religious or other ideology. Random nutcase shooting up a school doesn't fall under that
Who sets the narrative? One can be deemed a freedom fighter whilst also a terrorist.

Obviously there was some messed up ideology that made this person into a terrorist.

Normally the winner sets the narrative. This person was no winner.

Caught up on some of the reactions from the US on latest shooting,

News channels apologising for misgendering the killer, and even going as far to make excuses to justify her actions.

I'm trying to think how that would even sound if things were reversed and the killer was a right wing Maga supporter, can't imagine Fox news even attempting that.

Was that Biden press conference real? News channels tuning in for an update on the shooting and he jokes around about ice cream and talks to the kids, please tell me that wasn't real...

looks really weak when the leader of the usa talks about guns being a problem but can't/won't actually do anything about it.
don't wanna hear from a usa president on guns again until it's announcing a ban.

Just because the right to bear arms is enshrined in USA law, it doesn't mean that this needs to stay as it is.

In the UK following the Dunblane massacre, handguns were banned. I reckon that this probably saved hundreds of lives. It put a few noses out of joint at the time, but so what?

The US needs to move with the times, become less militarised and dismantle their huge small arms industry which influences government policy.

The problem is that anything meaningful needs to be bipartisan and pass both houses.

The Republicans and the NRA however don't want to do anything about it because the NRA makes money from the fear of the "other" and selling guns, whilst the Republicans make money by doing whatever the NRA tell them to do and claiming guns aren't an issue and everyone should have the right to carry whatever they want without training or checks at all times (whilst quietly banning them at their events).

yep that's why it's so pathetic, until someone, such as a president, does something about it.
The problem is he can't, he can do small things but anything serious and that won't immediately be overturned or challenged in court requires cooperation and the Republican party in the US have made it their aim over the last 20+ years to actively oppose anything the Democrats suggest, even when it'll help the Republican voters (and the Republicans then claim credit for things like infrastructure spending they oppose, when the new bridge is built in their area).

You realise its doesn't work like that right? Obviously not.

Making the school a gun free zone didn't exactly protect anyone did it...

If I was a teacher I'd want to be able to protect myself. Rather than be a sitting duck for whatever lunatic turns up with the gun.

Give the teachers access to guns, secure safe only they have access to, at least if they hear gun fire they can prepare rather wait to get shot.

Ideally a ban would be the best option but that's not going to happen.

Having unqualified civilians blazing away in a school is a great idea!
