Today's mass shooting in the US

I think recent polls have indicated the majority of the American public are now in favour of tighter gun controls, it's just the politicians in the pockets of the NRA aren't

Indeed, the percentage of gun owner in the US is at an all time low, hence the bankruptcy of Remington and the financial issues of the other manufactures. But the gun owners and supporters are getting more and more vocal, and the NRA is pushing harder and harder.

In the end the NRA are trying to fight for the rights of an ISIS terrorist with mental disorders to buy guns without any kind of checks in place. I don't think that is a sustainable position to hold

Heh NRA a fully legitimised terrorist organisation is what I liken them to.

The simple fact of the matter is that they push for people to carry guns and that includes everyone ie home grown terrorists, mentally ill people etc etc.

Of course there is. There is psychological mind control going on through media consumption whether they are aware of it or not. Ive been saying this for YEARS now, and another thing I've apparrently been completely right about, where is this expert analysis anyway seems interesting.

The overall intent by the media, is to make as much money as possible, terror attacks and mass shootings such as this, are huge cash generators for media companies. Imagine the amount of revenue coming in, during the commercial break in a ppv event - same thing in a school shooting, buts it’s a ppv event they run for 48-72 hours straight.. imagine the cash making potential.

People who consume this “media” are more likely to get scared or concerned, then go out and spend money. Simultaneously; upset or damaged individuals with an axe to grind, get a taste at the havoc they can wreak - and how much fame they’ll get, so they go out and act - thus completing the circle.

At the same time, people with interests in the manufacturing of weapons throw money at everyone, in order to ensure things stay exactly as they are.

For me it’s more an example of what happens when a money making machine runs out of control, it’s not mind control, or some sort of conspiracy theory (people barely even deny it) it’s a money game gone drastically off the rails,

i suspect this will get brushed off as "the heroic swat team that came to save you, aren't we so proud and grateful for our armed police units who keep us safe".

not that i'm against the concept of armed police, just that by praising their response you're ignoring why they needed to respond in the first place.

This is literally the USA right now:

Will they push for the death penalty?

Probably, but given the speed at which the process takes in the USA he will probably be in his 40's before he gets the needle.

Quite unusual for them to be taken alive, usually either get shot by the cops or top themselves to avoid capture.

RIP to the victims.

And nothing will change so it's business as usual until the next one.

Bit brutal I know but what else can I say? These shootings are constant.

Pretty much right tbh.

The guy was mentally disturbed so case closed, thoughts & prayers etc.

Followed by the the nutjobs arguing that if the victims had guns of their own then they could have defended themselves.....

It's sad that we've become so desensitized to this kind of thing happening over there now.

He purchased 55 guns in the year before the shooting, proper central recording of gun purchases should set alarms ringing surely?

Trump had a pop at people for not reporting him, except he was reported and the biggest problem is reporting someone does nothing. Due process, the thing Trump doesn't care about unless it suits him, means that someone being dodgy doesn't mean you can just put them in jail before they do anything wrong.

The way to make a report of someone dangerous mean anything, is the ability by law to make it impossible for them to buy guns, to make it possible for the FBI/police/etc come in and remove any guns licenced/registered to someone if they become unstable and problematic. If someone owns guns and starts making threats they immediately lose their weapons on some kind of probationary period. IE threaten an ex girlfriend and you lose your guns and gun licence for a year and have to prove via some kind of appointed therapist and prove that any issues they had have been gotten over and can apply to have licence reinstated.

But this would all require gun control laws, which republicans are completely against and Trump is removing existing ones. Reporting this guy with zero ability to effect his ability to buy or keep guns he already owns is the entire freaking problem.

One of the kids on the news says they actually have drills for shooters at school.

Well well, it is the norm. Something that happens that often they do like it fire.

Even in this country now (not sure how wide spread) they drill for terrorism/active dangerous person on the school grounds. At least they do at the various schools where family have their kids.

It’s the idea that the threat is so common and real they need to drill for it.

That’s the sad part. You only do drills if there’s a realistic possibility, I mean why don’t we do drills for earth quakes?

Its sad it has come to that.

Personally though I think companies, etc. don't do enough preparation for eventualities - where I work does major incident drills every 6 months (focus on fire, flood and terrorism) but a lot of places don't.

UK schools have done terror drills and lockdown drills to be fair.

Not when I was growing up....which is the sad part.

The sad part is that we have drills for terrorism...which actually is fair enough as that’s the state of the world right now so we have to protect ourselves.

The sadder part is drills for school shooting. UK schools don’t have that, Chinese schools don’t have that, Japanese schools don’t have that, but American schools have that.

You do drills because it happens. But they have the power to prevent this happening to a point where they don’t need to do drills. Every other developed country in the world manages it, but the US don’t even want to try. I don’t expect they fully remove guns, with so many out there that’s not possible but they don’t even try, they don’t want to try, they are fine with things as they are.

These shooters are sick but the people who watch it happen weekly, watch their childrens getting gunned down weekly are even more sick.

You can argue that these shooters need medical help but these political needs to grow some balls, balls to do the right thing and not worry about losing their seat in office. A bunch of sick cowards.
