Today's mass shooting in the US

W

Well thats ****** :(

Going back to what a few other have said. The people.who tend to be very anti gun in the uk either dont know or understand gun ownership and use or are effected by illegal guns.

The illegal guns are the problem and the overwhelming majority of the time of these have never been in licensed public ownership. They then blanket everyone with the same argument and petitions for tighter control when on reality there is nothing wrong with how it is. They need better policing against the funs and **** gangs import in and deal with that and not punish legit owners which ia all that tends to happen.

Thomas Hamilton' firearms were legally held, so that theory doesn't hold up so well. Fact is that the more legal firearms in circulation there is, then the more chance there is of stolen firearms falling into the hands of people who'll use them in an illegal manner. No getting away from that fact. If you want to have fun shooting targets you could always try 10m target shooting with airguns, that's how i used to do it.

One of the kids on the news says they actually have drills for shooters at school.

Well well, it is the norm. Something that happens that often they do like it fire.
Both my brother and sister have worked in the states and when looking at schools for the kids all were proud of the short times it took to invoke complete lock down the standard response to a shooter on the site!

The M4 carbine (though not a variant generally owned) isn't bad for personal defence assuming you want to lug around something that size. While I'm not a fan I can see why people like the looks of the gun especially when carbonised/skeletonised blinged out. They are also pretty light for what they are.

When you talk about weapons that kill children as if they're adornments to an outfit you lose all credibility in such a debate.

They have lockdown and active shooter drills at my daughters school. they practice this in preschool all the way upto high school. They do it because as we saw yesterday, this happens every week in this country.

I’m sure they are, but when your kid is lying dead in classroom, what comfort can you take from that?

The goal shouldn’t be limiting the deaths of children, the goal should be eliminate the need for these drills altogether.

I know doesn't make it any less scary surelybit can't be long before public opinion is weighted heavily enough in favour of gun control the loss of innocent life is just too sad for words i can't imagine what these parents are going through.

That was my point it is disturbing that a school tells you the lockdown time before they tell you the academic success of the school like it's something to be proud of!

That justifying owning a weapon because it looks good is ridiculous.

Many people's interest in owning weapons is purely about the look (not necessarily blinged) and/or history of a weapon - lumping them in with people who'd carry out acts like this or saying their opinion is invalid because of it is incredibly closed minded.

Get them deactivated then like we do in this country.

i cant see them being able to ban guns as easy as they did in the UK, with the handgun ban. Everybody around here has guns, im probably the only exception, in fact im probably one of the only households in the town without some kind of firearm. Its just in the American culture especially in rural areas like where i live.

I'm not saying there that people don't also enjoy target shooting with them, which they might or might not - but emphasis being most of these people have no interest in using them to and never will to shoot a person let alone a child.

As per some of my other posts in this thread its possible to enjoy shooting firearms for target, etc. without having them able to use semi or fully automatic fire which begs the question as to why such firing modes are legal (though full auto is generally not). In bolt action, etc. type configuration it makes it very hard to use them to carry out sprees like this.

As already posted, the answer is yes. Americans fundamentally believe that dead schoolchildren is a price worth paying to participate in a bit of sport.

Ignoring the fact that they could perfectly well do those sports with guns kept under lock and key in a club house....that's still too inconvenient, kids lives aren't worth it.

It's got nothing to do with sport. They are for self defense. The end.

Gun owners trust the government LESS than they trust potential psychos buying guns. Thats what it boils down to. And the louder and more aggressive the government and leftists get, the more and more guns get stockpiled.

It's not closed minded, it's common sense.

If people are collecting weapons that could easily be used by themselves, or people who steal them, to commit mass murder, because they like the look then they're either stupid, selfish or both.

Aesthetics are at the bottom of any list of justifications for owning guns.
