Today's mass shooting in the US

With that view they should really be thanking school kids for their service so they can keep the 2nd amendment

Rightly or wrongly, they believe that their "god given human right" as defined by their constitution is just as important to them as something like free speech would be to you, so it's understandable that they make comments like this, even if we vehemently disagree with them.

They can believe it is their god given right all they like as long as they accept and acknowledge that children will be afraid of and die from shootings but that's worth it as an equivalancy.

Nearly as a many children are killed and more are seriously injured by pets each year as firearms - but I don't see the same concerns aimed at the parents owning pets. You can aim most of the same justifications as well i.e. no one needs to own a pet.

That doesn't sound right numbers wise but even if it was, at least they have tried to stop it by banning certain breeds rather than thoughts and prayers everytime a kid gets mauled to death by a pitbull

Difficult to get good numbers for it - some years are very different both ways and often the stats focus on dogs rather than pets in general and/or stats only take into account various age ranges not directly comparable. Typically numbers killed by pets is in the dozens while firearms range from dozens to 2022 for instance where it was nearly 300 for <11 years of age.

EDIT: Ultimately though I just think people get far too worked up by firearms, the problems run far deeper than that - I'd be very surprised if we saw anything like the same numbers (adjusted for population) in the UK or most other countries with the same firearms proliferation as the US even with a similar gun culture. I think some people would be a bit surprised by the true picture of firearms ownership in the UK as well - living in a rural area there are many people around where I live who own shotguns and rifles, etc. but firearms incidents are almost non-existent - in fact one of the lowest in the country despite also being one of the areas amongst the highest ownership.

The biggest killed of kids is apparently aborton, perhaps they should, oh, no, wait, never mind...

i'm just so glad i live in a country where guns are banned there's no hope for the states it seems, they want their guns and that's that

According to the Office for National Statistics, the total homicide rate in the UK in 2019 was 1.04 per 100,000.

According to the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program, the homicide rate by all methods excluding firearms in the USA in 2019 was 1.19 per 100,000.

Therefore, Americans murder each other WITHOUT guns (in a country awash with guns) at a higher rate than Brits do using ALL the available methods (including guns). If you could wave a magic wand and somehow remove all guns from the USA it will not become a utopia, they will simply use other weapons to kill each other instead.

Guns are not banned in the UK. They are licensed and some types are prohibited. But even when there were no gun control laws in either the UK or the USA, the USA's homicide rate was consistently 4 - 5 times higher than the UK's for a period of 150 years. There are many theories as to why the USA is so violent but until they change the nature of their society they will continue to have more than their fair share of homicides (even with tough gun control laws).

For a second I though it was going to be the shooting from a few days earlier, then I remembered why it wasn't posted.

Or maybe... people have lost interest/gotten massively desensitised to America's delusional relationship with guns and shootings. Very little point giving a **** several thousand miles from relevance when America doesn't want to even try to resolve their problems.

For a change in here I cite below what is perhaps a bit of positivity for civilians being armed:

Emergency services attended the scene of car ramming after several people were injured in an attack in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, 4 July.

Israeli police said Tuesday's incident was a suspected Palestinian attack.

It comes after ten people, including three children, were killed during an Israeli military operation in Jenin in the occupied West Bank.

Police said the suspect rammed into pedestrians on Pinchas Rosen Street before trying to stab them.

He was shot dead by a civilian.

Islamist militant group Hamas praised the attack as “heroic and revenge for the military operation in Jenin.”

Sometimes having civilians handy with a gun can save lives...

In the same way that if a serial killer died of cancer before he was caught then cancer can save lives, sure why not.

I like how the media is supressing it's another mentally ill Trans person

Reality:

According to absolute crank Marjorie Taylor Greene it's part of a trend of transgender mass shooters...

However, other than a picture the person posted in 2022 wearing a bra and womens top, there is nothing else to suggest the shooter was Transgender.

You might describe them as a cross-dresser at this stage...
