Today's mass shooting in the US

Strange it's never called terrorism eh.?

Well, it all gets a bit blurry as there's no universal definition of Terrorism, and its a very loaded, vague and generally misunderstood term, but using the US definition in this case

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) defines domestic terrorism as violent, criminal acts which are committed by individuals and/or groups in order to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.

It shows it is pretty encompassing. Violent extremism is now a more common broader description used, of which terrorism can be a subset of.

And in the US most violent extremist acts over the last decade have been carried out by the far right and white supremacists.

So we'll really need to find out the motivations of this shooter before we will know if he was motivated by ideology or some form of psychotic mental illness.

A knife is ostensibly a kitchen utensil used in the preparation of food that can also be used to kill somebody, in the same way an axe is a tool to chop wood that can be used to kill people etc.
You do know that knives and also those items banned in the UK have been killing people for 100's if not 1000's of years before guns came along. To think of those items banned in the UK as only kitchen utensils is laughable.

Blades less than 3 inches or if you have a lawful reason for carrying it.

If you’re caught in public with a 3+ inch blade and you don’t have a lawful reason for carrying it (e.g. you’re a carpet fitter on your way between jobs), it’s an automatic jail sentence.
Thank you for agreeing with me.

What on earth has a belief in a god got to do with anything except obfuscation? What we are talking about is a person that spent two weeks in a mental health facility, had made death threats and was "hearing voices".
so is it most likely it was the person that did the killing and not the gun? Do you think that has a zombie knife has good intentions?

Would be a great argument if the gunsexuals weren't arguing that there shouldn't be any restrictions whatsoever on ownership of guns as apparently it's completely rational for people with paranoid delusions to have machines whose sole purpose is to kill people as efficiently as possible.

TBH I don’t actually see much of a problem with gun ownership, the problem I have is assault rifles that can fire on full auto, there is no reason that anyone needs anything more than a pistol or shotgun for home defence

Apologies if English isn't your first language but that reads like gibberish to me.

If you missed my point it was that a person with a diagnosed mental illness shouldn't be able to obtain or retain an assault rifle (due to weak gun laws). If you disagree with that I'd be interested to hear your counter argument.

As an aside, just over 10 years ago my brother died from a knife wound inflicted by a person with a mental illness who lived in the same neighbourhood. If that same person had an assault rifle in his hands many more people could have died in that neighbourhood than just my brother on that day.
