Today's mass shooting in the US

I don't get where he got the money to buy the near dozen guns he had. When I was 18 I didn't have £2500 to spend on anything.

I didn't read his background in detail but IIRC his parents or parent or something passed away a year or two back so maybe inheritance.

A developed country that's so lax on gun crime yet so harsh on medical care. Top notch.

At least they have quality employment laws.... oh wait.

I speak to a few Americans and they are some of the nicest people I know but their attitudes towards guns is mind blowing. It beggars belief and no amount of mass shootings changed their opinion.

You really do need to experience it to get any idea on their mentality towards it - for a good number it is almost religious. I don't think people here understand the mentality of many of the enthusiast gun owners over there though - for them it is considered a privilege as well as a right and someone doing something like this is almost like sacrilege towards those people.

Didnt Australia have mass shootings in the 80's they changed laws and no problems since at least make a start even if there so many guns out there it dosnt matter it about making the first steps so years from now it will become a better place.

what!? a country managed to get rid of shooting incidents just by changing it's firearms laws!? never, you lie sir!

I like this one I just read

Nikloas Cruz wasn’t old enough to buy any of the handguns at the store. But there’s no such restriction for rifles, shotguns or the AR-15 that police say he used to carry out the nation’s deadliest school shooting in more than five years.

So not old enough to buy handgun yet old enough to buy AR-15 this is just crazy

They made it illegal to own firearms (may be shotguns still allowed?) and gave the public and amnesty period where they could just hand it in and no questions asked.

I could google it to pin the date down but cba :p

america logic right there, the only benefit a handgun has is concealability, as a fighting weapon the ar15 is going to be better in every single way especially for a novice.

what's even more 'murica is the fact he wasn't old enough to buy booze, hows that for freedom

They are pretty similar to ours I think - you can own a selection of firearms but you need a good reason, mandated delay between registering and/or buying and actually getting your hands on a gun, etc. etc. regular spot checks and background checks and other cross-references are carried out to make sure someone with a permit to own a gun is still suitable.

And it works - except very rare exceptions (terrorism incident, etc.) Australia hasn't had a major firearms incident in like 20 years or whatever it has been.

When I went over I got my hands on several rifles (including a AR-15) and handguns with my UK Driving licence as ID at a range but the same licence couldn’t get me a beer at a restaurant.

Heard one of the school kids from the shooting saying things need to change etc, then suddenly switched to 'but the second amendment says we have the right to bare arms, so we can't take that away'..... ?????:confused::confused:

Just nuts

It’s just not nuts but frightening. As the above clip shows, it’s an amendment so ermmm yeh it can be changed. It’s just that they don’t want to change it that’s all. Americans place more belief in their constitution than anything else. It’s almost like a cult following with the way they harp on about the constitution and how it must be protected no matter what even if the country falls into chaos.

I went to a range in Croatia for my stag do. The guy started us off with a few pistols and we were all ranging from rubbish to okay, he then gave us a small rifle (possibly and smg actually, not a gun guy and cant remember) with shoulder stock and suddenly we're all rambo in comparison. Slightly terrifying actually.

The problem is the politicians are in bed with the gun lobby and are too scared to take them on. I was listening to a guy the other night talking about the gun lobby and it's reckoned they wield more political power than the POTUS.

I can't see that any amount of slaughter will alter the status quo. On the one hand they are a great nation and yet when it comes to guns the rest of the world simply shakes it's collective heads in disbelief at their blindness.

The USA criticise other countries for archaic laws.

USA guns laws are as archaic as those.

Tired / bored / used to these shootings - Has no impact anymore.

Accept that freedom of guns is the issue, then you might start moving forward.

Indeed, theres a reason the us army goes to war with rifles.
