Tomb Raider - Rise of the Raider PC

I am looking to change my GTX 580 for a GTX 970 4mb or a AMD R9 390 8mb
I have noticed some people have said this game uses a lot of vram, so would i be better off with the AMD GPU to have graphic settings as high as possible, or is vram something different, it will be at 1080p single monitir by the way

Just played about 1.5 hours of this in 4k with settings maxed bar hair (its just on) and only SMAA x1.

Looks fantastic and no stutters or anything yet, not run an FPS counter as said above aslong as it plays smooth! Looking on youtube its about 30-40fps.

i got to 20% save last night. i made sure i saved the game. came back on this morning and for some reason im back at 9%. Fuming.... but I have done another 5% saving game again. I thought I dont wanna go any further just in case.

Restarted PC. Booted up and its at 9% again. Whats wrong?? Cant figure it out

I had a smiler issue on Xbox it's fixed by changing the save slot if it's the same issue ?

Regarding the VRAM issue, I am wondering if it's actually using all of that memory at any given time? Maybe it is just using it all up, as a buffer or something.

I've read about other games doing this, so it wouldn't be surprising. The game uses the entire 6gb on my 980ti, but I don't get any fps drops like you'd expect.

Well I dropped all the textures to low, while having an OSD on for Memory and you can clearly see it dump the 6GB it's using down to around 2GB and below.

It doesn't affect my FPS in anyway though, I found HBAO+ and tessellated areas(mine complex & village) are much worse than the VRAM being used.

I've had no vram issues on my 970 at 2560x1440 maxed all except fxaa on, pure hair on, dof off, motion blur off as i can't stand either and with very high textures even but i've only played over an hour once.

I've got exclusive widescreen feature(think that's what it's called) enabled though which apparently can help with fps a bit.Probably put textures to high though as there isn't much difference for the fps cost.

Anyone having stuttery cutscenes? Not all of them, but I'm about 1hr in, and a few cutscenes have been notably... ****. (The guy stealing the book from Lara's manor was probably the worst)

You guys with a 970 who run it at 1080p do you have everything on very high and textures at high ??

Antialiasing: SMAA
Texture: High
Ansitropic: 4x
Shadows & LOD: High
Purehair: On

Everything else maxed out, constant 40-50fps at 1440p and looks stunning.

If I had a 980ti or Titan I'd consider bumping the textures and shadows up, but think that would be marginal in terms of how it looks. For some reason it wont framerate lock to 30fps for me, but i'm not pro-gamer enough and it isn't too twitchy a game to really notice.

Put AF to x16 it will have hardly any effect on fps and textures will look a lot clearer.

You think so? I just posted this on steam forum about AF on my system am seeing a massive performance hit from AF
Honestly guys I think think this might just be the most demanding setting in the game lol
AF for years now has been a walk in the park for modern GPUs but in this game something isn't quite right!

From 2x to 16x am seeing 20 to even 30fps change test it out, what even more madness is that I can't tell what changing from 2x to 16x normally you would see texture details look more sharper.

Just hit the 60% mark. So far loving it apart from some of the little quirky items.

Map not loading instantly at times.
Clipping issues when jumping.
Item pick up distance appears to be a little wonky at times.

As a side note:
If anyone has done the optional objective of the jumping from towers into the water when you're at the natives town, what button is it you have to press! Nothing appears to work. :(
