Tomb Raider Thread

The whole linear thing is rather annoying. Nearly all games were quite linear back in the day. We have been spoilt with open world type games, but TR could not do some of the things it does if it were a fully open type of game. I am not far from the end now I think. Great to see Miss Croft back up there as a great gaming hero again. We have suffered a lot of dross in TR for years, hope they make moreof the same. Lara looks stunning in this too!

Since when has a Tomb Raider game not been linear? I've played cod and gow and this TR is nothing like them at all! Unless you count the fact that it has guns (cod) and that it's a third person shooter (gow) in which case it's exactly the same as Mario 64 and Metroid too :p

I don't really get to complete many games because I get bored of their lacking gameplay and many just fail to grip me in. Apart from Metro Last Light, Tomb Raider is the only other game I have played through to the end looking forward to each session.
 
I also get the COD vibe to be fair....each area basically feels like a mp map you have to clear before you can continue.

It wasn't the linearity that killed the game for me, it was the retardedness of some of the 'gameplay', such as the unfailable QTEs and button mashing. Pressing E 20 times to open a door....I can't believe what gaming has come to sometimes...this game was highly praised!!!

Yeah that's what I meant and I listed GoW because of the hiding behind walls and with it being very path orientated and button mashing. Keep getting abit annoyed with this with the dumb deaths... to scripted. It was ok with walking dead but doesn't feel right for tomb raider.
 
bought this to play this evening.

unfortunately i get a CTD when entering mountain pass.

as i pass the crashed pilot's smoke signal and get near the salvage crate and statue it CTD's every time.

have tried updating drivers, didn't work

any advice?
 
right after doing some research i came across the following - http://steamcommunity.com/app/203160/discussions/0/810919691010754963/

in there is the following: "A beacon to those who bought the game. The game fixed a few hours ago. The fixed is if you facing the same problem you need to do below steps:
right click TR, go to properties, local files and click file integrity. Once that is done, a file with a size of 1.8Gb will be downloaded. Guess its a patch. Now my game run smoothly and I just finish the radio beacon mission.

Hope this will help new fans. :)"

after taking his advice i am now download a 1.8GB update!!

all sorted now :)

I liked the game, it kept me interested right through it, the weapons were just perfect for it, but my favourite has to be the bow.

cant wait for the next one now!
 
Playing through this at the moment. Not enjoying it as much as I was hoping at the moment, think I enjoyed Tomb Raider: Legend more than this currently.
Finding some of the sequences cringeworthy, the hole run along and things are constantly falling down so you have to jump, ever 5 seconds someone jumps out at you and you get a quicktime sequence which you always fail first time as you don't find out which button it's going to be clearly enough.... :p

"An enemy jumps out at you, press numpad * to kick him"

Does it get a lot better as you play it? It just feels like it is trying too hard at the moment.

I'm not sure how far I am in the game, just made a bit explosion to get the plane's attention. (which was interesting... expected to be able to just shoot it with an arrow, since that seems to make a red barrel explode massively....)
