I agree that you shouldn't judge everyone based on the actions of a few, but usually when people say that they are talking about specific groups (Muslims, feminists etc) but then hypocritically do the same thing when it suits their political agenda.

Based off that logic would it be unfair to label all supporters of the historic German Nazi party as racist?. (goodwins law I know but hey, you made the odd statement).

Some groups have certain political ideological views ingrained into them, if a person is a member of that group but doesn't share the views then I'd say the person is an idiot by joining a group they don't follow.

EDL member = idiot or racist (usually both in equal measure).

Unfortunately for many, say - deporting brown people doesn't meet the above criteria (as it's not leaving people free to live their lives).

estebarney, I can see what you mean. They must be misrepresenting themselves then. Tommy is very articulate and represents his party well, but the staunch supporters seem to be nothing but thugs. Perhaps they aren't representative of the majority.

I'm not sure the BNP suits his agenda. I honestly think that his party really misrepresents him. Doubtless he's racist, but I think the members of his party really are far more right wing than he is, and far more racist than he is.

I think if you are going to become the leader of an organisation called the .... English Defence League then you already have both feet in the water on the main issues.

Just read the name of the organisation aloud to fully appreciate the level these peoples minds operate on.

I think he was picked to be the friendly face of the organisation to attempt to garner credibility with the middle ground 'slightly racist' public.

A failed attempt to put a human face onto xenophobia.

He's a co-founder, though. So he wasn't chosen to represent them, at least not from all the members that they have.

He is the face of xenophobia (other than Hitler and Nick Griffin), but he is quite articulate. I wouldn't call him dense. He has his views, controversial though they are, and I that a lot of his party take them too far, outside of his control.

I'm not racist. I intensely dislike the BNP, EDL, NF and their ilk but don't feel my dislike of something is reason enough to ban it.

I am not entirely sure how you have come to the assumption I am racist.

I can say I've only ever picked up and then pretty much slammed a young woman onto her back on floor. That was me losing almost losing control over her apparent drunken inability to stop physically attacking people viciously over no good reason. And ignoring me too.

That's the only time I could say I've physically attacked a woman, and even though it probably was justified - and exonerated by the ****heads own mother - I still felt a bit guilty about it.
