top 11 current players

This would be mine:

-----------Casillas---------
-Maicon--Lucio--Vidic--Cole
-----------Essien----------
------Fabregas--Xavi------
Messi---------------Ronaldo
----------Torres-----------
subs:
Julio César
Evra
Vermaelen
Mascherano
Kaka
Arshavin
Rooney

I have to concede Cashley is world class and better than clichy, but my bias does mean I'd have Vermaelen on the bench :D

I'm new here btw, nice to be here :)
don't chew me out for being a gooner!

Wow and I wonder why you would say that

Because I'm right? If you think otherwise you need to sit down and watch some football. Just for good measure...

The jab at just because I'm a chelsea fan....maybe you should consider the fact that I left the CB slot blank, If i was that biased I'd slot Terry in there right?...

If I had to fill the CB slot in, it would go to Ledley Kind but he's a cripple.

You have a point with Essien, he should be in everybody's line-up and to substitute him for Mascherano is bordering on insane, Cole and Evra though is entirely down to choice as there's nothing in it, I personally prefer Evra but fully understand people who prefer Cole.

This is my 11 and subs.

-------------Reina--------------
Maicon----Pique----Vidic----Evra
Xavi---------Scholes------Iniesta
Ronaldo------Rooney-------Messi

Subs:
GK: Casillas
DF:Puyol
DF:A. Cole
MF: Fabregas
MF:Schneider
FW:Torres
FW:Robben

Special Mentions that didn't make it: Fabregas, David Silva, Javier Zanetti, Drogba, Lucio, Julius Caesar, Essien (would have been in my starting 11 if he wasn't injured a lot), Valencia, Carvalho....

Though it is fact that people who think Mascherano > Essien are either mentals or Liverpool fans

Your opinion is fact too? :p

Some people would say that anybody picking Essien as a defensive midfielder in a current 11 is mad no matter who he's being picked ahead of. For a start Essien's missed most of the last 2 seasons and despite what some people seem to imagine, Essien's not a defensive midfielder (I doubt he's played as one more than a handful of times in his career). At Lyon he played as an attacking midfielder and throughout his Chelsea career he's had either Makelele or Mikel playing behind him, even towards the end of last season when Hiddink left Mikel out the side it was Ballack that played behind Essien and Lampard.

You seriously dont have a clue, it's debatable at best as to who is better between Cole & Evra, it's certainly NOT clear cut one way or the other

So no you're not right at all not in the slightest so grow up

Its funny because we had a thread like this a year ago and I was the only one to pick Lucio as a CB and was widely regarded as nuts because he's just not that good. I can't remember what thread though, was it on who is the best defensive partnership, or who the best defenders are, or maybe just a whole team thread.

WHile I argued he's played for a heck of a long time, has won things for over a decade, is HUGE, strong, fast for his size, great reading of the game and a fantastic shot on him scoring some corkers from corners and other setpieces over the years, he's a fantastic leader and other than making Drogba his little ***** at a time when Drogba was at his highest form of the season, he's been doing that to many world class strikers for over a decade.

He's actually looked worse this season, he seems slightly heavier, slightly older and slightly less agile, he looked flat out clumsy at points against Barca and not because he was being torn apart by a great team, just a little lumbering and slower than usual, could just be a long tiring season as he had a confed cup inbetween seasons.

People who are picking Ronaldo/Rooney/Messi all together, are completely nuts, they'd make a pretty horrible team all told, you only need to see that Rooney couldn't shine with Ronaldo in the team, you need one focal point, not 3, especially when they all like to run the ball and prefer to go on their own than provide an assist.

Likewise has no one picked Eto'o? When you check his goal scoring record vs games played over the past 8 seasons, there isn't another striker in a top league who can match it and few come remotely close, Ronaldo, Rooney, Torres certainly don't come close.

I'm glad you mentioned Villa Tummy.

Can't believe no-ones mentioned him, more goals in the last eight season then Eto'o despite what DM says.

I personally think he's probably the best goal scorer in Europe.

Eto'o is good, don't get me wrong, but I'd pick Villa over him.

Essien can play anywhere in his own half apart from goal, maicon can also play CB as well as RB and LB. You are allowed to play people out of their regular position. Alex Ferguson used to play rooney at left mid. Ronaldo has also played on the left wing this season just like nani even though they both prefer right wing.

if your a top world class footballer, then you should be able to play a multiple number of positions. Hell when barcelona were drawing the other week, Pique turned into a striker from centre back, and he played amazing up front, it even looked like he was in his natural position.

Just like when i play football, im a great defender / defensive midfielder. My passing is my best attribute along with hitting volleys, making me a great midfielder / attacking mid. I can also play in goal and did so at primary school. The only places where i cant play would be the wings or up front. I tend to need a second or two before lining up my shot, whereas your better off with a striker who can hit it first time. My volleys though from outside the box are usually screamers and usually leave the goalkeeper and team mates congratulating me. So i would feel comfortable in many positions.

Who would play defensive mid in your team if xavi or fabregas got injured? there is iniesta, but he is an attacking mid and his defending is poor.

Is this team based on form or ability? I'm going to assume it's based on form this season and go with:

------------Casillas------------
Maicon---Lucio---Vidic---Evra
Fabregas---Lampard---Xavi
Messi-----Rooney-----Ronaldo

Subs:

Julio Cesar
Puyol
Cole
Xabi Alonso
Iniesta
Drogba
Villa

I was posting in jest. :p
Anyways, I understand what you are saying but Maicon at CB wouldn't fill me with too much confidence as I think his defending is a bit meh.

If my CM was to be injured I probs but Lampard in as he can do an alright job or Pique as he use to play as a DM.
