I could see that working. It would be a different show to what we have now but it wouldn't be the snooze fest of "Drone, drone lots of horse power. Drone, drone doing skids." that some people seem keen on ;)

Another one that I saw suggested was Idris Elba which I can't see working but it did make me think that I'd like to see more car related stuff from him after watching King of Speed.

I coulnd't see that working, when i watched King of Speed he came accross as someone who knew next to nothing about cars

You said it was an out of work incident, but the papers are reporting it was during filming so surely that is at work as far as TV goes no?

I don't really care about what Clarkson has said in the past, if someone wants to get annoyed by his comments and complain that's their issue. But surely you have to draw the line when someone starts throwing punches (allegedly) in a work environment?

The article I saw said it was after filming and they were all out for a late lunch, ergo not at work.

However, to answer your question, IF it turns out it was 'at work' I do think there should be a punishment of course.
But something that fits the crime. An on-air apology. Docked Salary. Hell, even community service.
I'm not sure punishing millions of fans is the way to go.

Dunno why they don't do a guest presenter for a couple of episodes - while they may/maybe not suited to doing it longer there are a few who'd be interesting for 1-2 episodes and IIRC Tanner is still in europe.

I'm not interested in whether what he did was right or wrong, but I hope that if ITV poach him they take Hammond and May as well.

Unlike Clarkson the other 2 have contracts for several other shows on the bbc - can't see them leaving (unless someone paid a considerable amount).

If they get change channels, would they have access the same studio/air field or does the BBC have its claws on that?

Airfield is owned by the bbc I believe, it is rented out to other parties though so they might continue to rent it to another show maybe.

In 2002 BAE Systems (British Aerospace's successor) sold Dunsfold Aerodrome to The Rutland Group who formed Dunsfold Park Ltd.

BBC appear just to rent a hanger.

Fair enough. Tbh I agree with you, the punishment should be fair. No need to go overboard, but as you said before the BBC have backed themselves into a corner by saying previously that he was on his last chance.

Should have googled it :S I'm sure I read somewhere it had been acquired by a BBC group company.

It's all well and good subbing him for someone else if he's ill or something but given they'll have the segments filmed prior and this is a "Clarkson is bad mmmmkkkkaaayyyy" thing they wouldn't really want to then put him on air even in a pre recorded segment.

I think Topgear is dead in the water, both May and Hammond are out of contract at the end of this month and Clarkson most likely to be sacked I can't see them renewing. My money is on sky taking all 3.

Nope.

If you don't pay your license fee, then you can't watch ANY tv that is shown live OR recorded from a live stream. So you couldn't watch ITV, Sky 1, Atlantic, whatever, or even sky+ your shows to watch them later.

What you can do, is use all the catch-up services like iPlayer, ITV Player, Netflix etc... Just not the watch live, on now or whatever each app calls the service. So you cannot stream the live TV either.

I binned my tv license and Sky subscription at the start of the year. There are some things I do miss, mainly watching News 24 just before bed time, however the BBC News app on my bedroom tv does have a video headlines bit in it. I can't watch (you don't get it) the regular news stuff from BBC News 24 on iPlayer, but you do get the shows, like WBR, Click, News at 10 etc...

Apart from that, the only other thing I will miss is the F1. Not being able to watch that live will be a pain. But the iPlayer highlights will suffice I guess. I have looked into picking up a satellite feed from a European satellite for this, as it is free to air on many European channels, but I don't really know how this works with respect to the license.

Do you honestly care what is and isn't allowed?

In my eyes all that matters is that you don't get caught.

Downloading has been made illegal in the Netherlands only recently, but do I care ?

No, I still download TG in 720p, 6 minutes after it aired on BBC2, which I can ''legally'' watch on my tv live, simply because it's better and more user friendly to have it digitally, and narrow minded copyright dimwits don't go after individual users here in Holland ( just like drugs, who aren't legal, but there is no enforcement on it). It's only been made illegal to conform to stupid EU laws.

As for the Clarkson thing, I hope the show comes back asap, he is the only person on the BBC who expresses his mind like he should in a world of left wing politically correct idiots.

Out of curiosity, watch an episode of the US version.
Clearly there's a bit of a culture class, I just found it naff. Simply NOT humorous.

Some of the later episodes where they don't try and carbon copy TG are pretty good in their own right, I find Rutledge annoying however - he'd be ok as a 2nd or 3rd presenter but not as a replacement for JC, Tanner is usually pretty good but not really a big enough personality to carry that role either.
