Out of curiosity, watch an episode of the US version.
Clearly there's a bit of a culture class, I just found it naff. Simply NOT humorous.

I tried a few episodes of US TG season 5 as a result of this thread (i believe the latest season, from 2014)

Completely agree with your comments :(

Hmm I've not watched 5 but I watched 1 and 2 and either 3 or 4 can't remember which and I thought it improved a lot once they got over trying to be too much like UK Top Gear.

I just found it a typical american History channel type show. Similar to all of the other stuff like "desert car kings" and the millions of other car shows, OK in its own right i guess but not worth seeking out at all imo :(

I do hope it is the end of the line for TG in its current guise, JC is far too old to be acting the prat, the whole larking about thing is a bit boring now. JM is actually very good on the other things he has done, so i hope he does more of that, and as much i like RH, i cant think of anything other than TG that i have liked him in.

Time for a refresh imo. With the info thats in front of us, I dont get why he has so much support.

I coulnd't see that working, when i watched King of Speed he came accross as someone who knew next to nothing about cars

Didn't really matter to me as I found the shows interesting to watch as it was more around the car culture and the people he met. TBH as soon as a car show becomes "technical" I lose interest to an extent.

Oh and I vote for Brian Johnson for a temporary stand in. Now that would be entertaining! I could see him getting stuck in to some "challenges" as well.

Do you honestly care what is and isn't allowed?

In my eyes all that matters is that you don't get caught.

Downloading has been made illegal in the Netherlands only recently, but do I care ?

No, I still download TG in 720p, 6 minutes after it aired on BBC2, which I can ''legally'' watch on my tv live, simply because it's better and more user friendly to have it digitally, and narrow minded copyright dimwits don't go after individual users here in Holland ( just like drugs, who aren't legal, but there is no enforcement on it). It's only been made illegal to conform to stupid EU laws.

As for the Clarkson thing, I hope the show comes back asap, he is the only person on the BBC who expresses his mind like he should in a world of left wing politically correct idiots.

Yes and No. I don't specifically want to go out a "break the law" with regards to my watching TV. As such, I haven't actually watched live TV in the house since I binned the TV license.

That being said, I do have a lot of movies that I download, because I can't often be hooped ripping the Bluray of it (which I have already bought, and I ACTUALLY have already bought it rather than just saying it).

I also DL a lot of my TV shows, rather than stream them from Netflix and Amazon (I have subscriptions for both), as my bandwidth often isn't stable enough to stream HD content. I'm basically waiting on fibre optic here, and then I may actually be able to bin utorrent too.

Bring back the old Bearded Men! Chris Goffey

Top Gear won't work on any channels with adverts as their main funding.
It's the same as magazines - they can't be truly honest about products because they would lose their advertising income.

Yes it will - who says all the commercials have to be car adverts anyway?

Top Gear is shown worldwide in channels with adverts as the main funding already. Foreign networks dont buy it for millions because they have a soft spot for Top Gear, they buy it because it brings viewers which sells ad space.

What I find quite ironic is how they shamed Ferrari and McLaren over their petty reasons for resisting the head-to-head challenge, yet it now looks like it'll be the BBC itself which ends up scuppering it.
