It’s the only game in the series that has a full built in tutorial segment rather than someone giving you hints over the main campaign. As such, it’s probably the best in the series for a new starter.

I’ve only completed the prologue (tutorial segment) so far and must say I did enjoy it, especially the push on a narrative for once.

It’s also a beautiful game to pause and just look around the battle up close. The game really does look stunning.

Oh, you've gone and done it now. :D

Oh man, I didn't think about this.

If I turn off screen space reflections it brings vram usage down to 9.8gb, but fully ultra everything on it hits the full limit on my 3080 and it feels like frame times become more erratic

You don't want to go there. Most defenders owners will fall into camp a) its the game's fault or b) you know you can turn down settings. :D

Performance issues and bugs are still there and the grand campaign map is what I'm most eager to try, so it seems waiting while they fix the bugs and stability issues is a good idea.

Total War: Warhammer III Benchmark Test & Performance Analysis Review
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/total-war-warhammer-iii-benchmark-test-performance-analysis/

For 1080p Full HD Ultra Setting 60fps you need a 6700XT or RTX 3060Ti at least and fluid 1440p needs a 6800XT or RTX 3070Ti with the RTX 2080Ti coming close at 58.6fps.
For smooth 4K not even the RTX 3090 gets 60fps but just 44.7fps while the 6900XT gets only 35.5fps.
How on earth does a game that looks the same as whtw2 perform so much worse than it? I know they have tweaked the engine but it looks more cartoon like now with smoother textures which should be less taxing. Beyond me how a 3090 only gets 45fps :D

I've been looking at reviews of this and confused by the graphics. units look nice and detailed - but is it a step forward graphically? I just don't see it.

I'll likely get it when it's discounted, in no rush for it and performance patches will be out by then.

I don't know if its the main cause but several of the reviewers got the game without the Anti-piracy software Denuvo, which is a software known to cause performance issues in some games.

"PC Invasion has compared performance benchmarking from before and after launch day, and found that their FPS dropped from 52.8 FPS to 37 on high settings and 126.7 to 59.8 on low"

"The review builds of the game ran much better than the current build"

I think the graphics are a considerable step up from TW2 myself. TW2 was impressive considering how many units would be on the battlefield at a time, where as this game seems to have improved the detail on the models considerably whilst really improving the lighting too.

I did however find the proportions of the protagonist in the prologue a bit odd, almost like GWs heroic scale for miniature models rather than in keeping with the Total War games’ more realistic proportion. (In simply terms, he chonk)

I booted up Shogun 2 after playing TWW3 and the graphics look similar enough to me. That's an 11 year old game. (it actually looks sharper thanks to MSAA x8 instead of TAA. I might reinstall TWW1 and compare.

Has anyone ordered this from Argos? Can it be redeemed on steam? Argos Q&As say Epic but they usually rubbish answers. I have lots of nectar points I need to spend.

Stores should be able to crossplay. I recently played Sea of Thieves with my friend, me via GamePass, him on Steam. You can link your Steam to your Windows account (both players will have to do this, even the steam users), then I think you need to use the Windows app to join each other. At least that’s how it worked in SoT.
