Total War: Warhammer 3

Yikes.

way back near the start of the thread I put my money down on a pre-order since after the last two games they'd gotten my confidence in the out of the box state back, way to **** that away.
It's a lesson everyone learns not trusting CA. Rome 2 was the last pre order they got out of me. Shogun 2 had the most polish of any release in recent memory imo.

Pre order under caution unless you know the franchise has enough clout that it'll get the development time that it needs post release. Even then cheaper to pick it up down the line after they've 'finished' it

Is this worth picking up? For someone generally new to the franchise. Watching GoT has me in the mood for some Dragons :)
Get Warhammer 1&2 loads of great mods and cheaper ,often on sale.

I uninstalled 3 and went back to 1&2.

Number 3's performance is appalling compared.

Act surprised when CA reveal her on Tuesday.

Played this a bit when it came on Gamepass , enyoyed it, but followed suggestions here and elsewhere and bought wh2 plus various Dlc since.

Never played a Total War prior to this , have mostly fumbled my way through it with a few Google searches here and there.

So far really only played as High Elves and The Empire , havent got my head round the various ways to earn stuff / progress/ use monsters etc with the other factions.

I dont like watching gameplay videos but realised I'm missing out on a lot of knowledge / gameplay tips plus the Lore that comes with each faction.

Can anyone recommend a youtuber(or websites) with good guides but isnt a hyperactive whippersnapper doing funny voices on 10 cans of Redbull?

For a quick overview of units in an army, https://www.youtube.com/c/LegendofTotalWar does a good tier guide, but you have to remember that he plays on Ledgendary difficulty, where the AI gets a buff to melee defence (I think), so he's very dismissive of melee infantry, unless they have good melee defence.

Other then that, just post on here about what army you want to try. ;)

That's great thanks both. Watched some Lionheart playthroughs last night on immortal empires.

Also had look at Zerkowich ( i think thats the spelling ) had some good guides alongside playthroughs, will give Legendof a go later.

Have been too reliant on missile infantry so far, get trashed when trying more meelee based rosters.

Generally, a good ranged setup wins battles against AI, of course a good meat shield to hold back the enemy infantry is just as important.

What faction are you playing?

The best I've managed so far has been Teclis and eventually somehow had that much money I was able to bribe my way to confederate /military access to long victory.
I felt like i'd cheated a bit, that was on normal normal.
Every other campaign with different factions ssince has taken a disaterous turn relatively early. Have tried various Vampires, Empire, and some others.

Can't help too much with Vampire counts, not played them in awhile, but I would head towards the free upkeep for skeletons and pump out some free armies and overwhelm your enemies.
When you can afford it, move towards vargulfs, vargheists and terrorgheists.

Vampire have some of the best heros going, all great spell casters.

I did a Empire campaign not too long ago, my general all rounder setup is.
  • 3-4 artillery. Start off with some mortars, with a cannon mixed in to help against large targets. Later on switch the mortars for hellstorm rocket battiers, 1 of the best units in the game, absolutely decimate infantry. Also you may want to change up the cannon for a hellstorm volley gun, or a luminark depending on your tastes.
  • 4-5 ranged infantry. Crossbows are great at the beginning, when you can, switch out 1 or 2 for handgunners, so you got something to take on armour. Then when you can, switch out the crossbows for outrider grenade launchers. Just like crossbows they fire in a arch, so they can shoot over your troops. They do great damage against low armour units, but be careful with friendly fire.
  • 1-2 cavalry. Empire cavalry isn't the greatest, but some reiksguard are nice for flanking attacks or grabbing exposed enemy ranged units. Upgrade to demigryph when you have the spare cash, they can go toe to toe with the tougher units in the game.
  • 1 battle wizard. Down to personnal preferance, I like bright wizards because of all their offensive spells, but I think most top players aim towards jade wizards, so you can heal your units. Of course there's nothing stopping you from having more then wizard in your army.

As for the rest, I normally go for spearmen with shields or halberdiers, since they have higher melee defence then standard swordsmen. Avoid great swordsmen, they really don't perform well unless they're fighting lower tier units.

Now if you want some fun, buy the The Prophet & The Warlock DLC and play as Ikit Claw.
Nothing says "sore loser" like dropping a nuke on your enemies when the battle isn't going your way.

Play greenskins, get three to four units of night goblin fanatics and watch the untold carnage unfold, glorious!

Also extremely melee orientated so very forgiving as long as you can close up, however they do have access to the doomdiver catapult, very accurate and brilliant range, great for sniping enemy arty.

I enjoyed the Kislev prologue campaign on WH3 and only completed it a few days ago. With all the hype around Immortal Empires, it seems like an ideal time to jump in.

Only question (and I am sure its been asked a few times) is that if I buy TW1 & 2 on steam, will I have to buy the third one on steam too to get IE? It seems that way...

Yeah, they all have to be on the same platform to integrate
