Total War: Warhammer 3

I'm finding it a breath of fresh air after clocking huge hours in WHII. The new factions, the new start positions, and the balance changes & tweaks have brought new life to the campaign, even for factions which haven't changed much themselves.

Chaos (Malagor & Skarbrand) have given me untold trouble in my current campaign as Wurrzag. It's really odd being based in Ekrund and having to worry about powerful enemies coming up from the South. Previously, that has been fairly safe territory. Safe to say they caught me completely off guard :p

Having a lot of fun with IE. Only Lord that has given me trouble playing as so far is Festus. He's great, even with the nerfs to his AoE abilities, but that start is brutal as within about 15 turns you'll be fighting half the empire.

Absolutely love the Warriors of Chaos though, they are all great.

I love the Total War games but I tend to steer clear of the Warhammer ones. I don't understand the lore or the characters. It's just random nonsense to me and that puts me off somewhat.

But that's said, WH3 looks pretty slick. Is there any quick idiots guide to the lore anywhere I can read/watch?

Search wikipedia or youtube I am sure you will able to find something.

They are pretty balanced games - as war games.
Missiles versus melee troops, heroes versus units, magic and monsters.

Indeed. It's more the lore and the terminology that makes no sense to me.

"Kneel, for I have the Sword of Kjsdbvkszgvbaighalivbal"
"Fool! That is nothing compared to the Orb of Adaslkfnsenlenlegleg"

It's all just meaningless nonsense.

It's hard to do a quick guide for Warhammer Fantasy as it's really large and a "TLDR" of the lore would be just as confusing as knowing nothing about it; but, if you're interested, there's an fantastic series called The Old World which does an wonderful job at going through the basic lore (8 episodes, about 20 to 45 mins each).

I wouldn't be seen dead in a Games Workshop store and care little for Warhammer in general, BUT, TWW2 is absolutely brilliant. The fact that the factions are so different and play differently add great colour to the game that some of the conventional Total War games don't. Take Shogun or Medieval for example, each nation plays very similarly....dudes with swords, dudes with spears, or dudes on horses and that's it. And whilst some of that is true in TWW2, they have so many cool special units that more than make up for it.

You'll find that the lore doesn't matter as much as you think it does. WHIII's main campaign (and the Prologue) lean in to it more heavily than previous campaigns in the series (and the new Immortal Empires campaign), but it's still a Total War game at the end of the day.

The main difference between the Warhammer series and other Total War games is that the factions in Warhammer are very distinct. And there's magic.

Same with LOTR or any other franchise you don't know about, right?

Stop moaning and go and read or just play the game and enjoy it and learn stuff. ;)

Listen to some Warhammer the old lore you tube videos and read the gotrex and Felix books

Just a quick question - I've started IE for the first time and it was a bit suprising that with each end turn the game cycles through what I think are the other factions/AI races? Theres about 200+ and to be fair it takes about 30-45 seconds each time but is this normal for the campaign? Does it get better or worse the more you play?

I would say *slightly* worse.
Further on, many minor factions get wiped out or confederated. The major factions get more armies/hero's, so take longer to finish their turn.

I wouldn't say it was bad though, I remember back in TW2, before the patch. You had time to grab a drink or go to the toilet, waiting on the AI to finish their turn.

Just in case you didn't know, you can speed up the turn time with the fast-forward button; however, it'll not show you AI army/hero movements, but it will massively speed up the turns:

Over time the turns can get better, but it'll depend on how many AI factions got wiped out and how large your territory is.

Appreciate the replies - something quite old school about having to wait your turn. Reminds me of end game Civ. I'll keep at it, I quite enjoyed the WH3 prologue campaign with Kislev.
