Tower block fire - london

yup, am stuck in my ways of valuing a free press and an open democratic society... how terrible of me to criticise calls for national newspapers to be banned because some people don't like them

I don't want them banned on that scale, just some actual oversight - so they stop publishing harmful drivel.

What's vile, poisonous or rotten about it? They've post a picture of the guy whose fridge caught fire with the caption of 'this is the guys whose fridge caught fire'.

Because it wants you to hate a man that really probably had no control over a faulty fridge, and certainly no control over RBKC spraying the building in flammable material and definitely no control over the **** poor regulations for old buildings.

The real culprit isnt this man.

How do you know that's what it wants? That is a conclusion that you with your prejudice and bias are jumping to.

No. You've jumped to that conclusion. They haven't labelled him as anything just said his is the fridge that caught fire.

which many people will jump to the conclusion hes the culprit and may decide to take revenge.

grief stricken people are not always rational.

Read the article it's absolutely filled with pictures of the guy.

How does his name, that he's an immigrant, his age or his job contribute to the story at all?

If he had deliberately done it then fair enough.

It's designed to trigger both sides(well designed to get clicks). Got to give them credit it does it's job well.

have they said how much his flat was worth yet?

Not sure what you are seeing, but the link says this ;

'Pictured: The man 'whose faulty fridge started Grenfell Tower inferno'

No reading between the lines in that statement

Don't be so disingenuous.

Put yourself in his shoes. Would you be happy to be identified like that? It's not his fault his fridge caught fire. It's not his fault the building he lived in was a huge fire hazard. But some might take their anger out on him now he's been identified.

It's the Daily Mail, they don't exactly make a habit of publishing information for the sake of information and nothing more do they?

Yeah...what's your point? They're not saying he started it. That a faulty fridge did.

Again, don't be so disingenuous. Then all they need to say is a faulty fridge started it, they don't have to splash photographs of the owner all over the place.

No. You've jumped to that conclusion. They haven't labelled him as anything just said his is the fridge that caught fire.

No, Daily Mail are jumping to that conclusion as always. Let's publish his face, name, ethnicity, family members (he's a black Ethiopian btw) and essentially label him as the cause where potentially dozens of people have lost their lives.

Yeah...what's your point? They're not saying he started it. That a faulty fridge did.
Pictures of faulty fridges would probably have been more relevant than several photos of him, if they're apparently not trying to link it to him.
