Saw and sat in a GRY for the first time today. First impressions it’s proportion look better in real like than the picture. It’s quite discrete, certainly compared to a Type R !
The exhaust has an okay tone, but is so so quiet from the outside. Even the wife said, “needs a better pipe”
Seat height, don’t know what the fuss is about. Okay I’m only 5”11. For sure I have another high height offender, Focus RS, but also an Z4, so I’m use to both extremes.

The rear view mirror, yeah it’s strangely large, can’t see it being much of an issue.
Seats felt good, cushion bolster is quite low compared to a Recaro CS. On first impression I’d say the plain bland greyness of the interior was the biggest disappointment. All the German hot hatch owners poked holes in the RS interior, the GRY is no better. I’m sure it will be perfectly functional.

The boot is actually smaller than the Z4, but you have seats to fold down, so no worries.

The car was in pearl white, but dirty, I’ve order black, which I’m still pleased about. Roll on March test drive.

I did some insurance quotes on line, heck it’s cheap, as this may be an additional car I used zero NCD and got down to 320 with Admiral. If not I’ll have 60% NCD to apply.

The Nitrons at £2500 is cheap and rather tempting might end up throwing a load of money at Litchfields on this car. :)

I like the sound of string theory’s height adjustable spring kit. Proper geo & corner weighting possible but shouldn't be huge money. I still want an exhaust for it but can't help think it's a waste, and they all seem rather expensive so far. Tuning box first, then springs then trackdays.

Should track it stock first so you have a basis of where you can go from. :)

Remember when I first got the M3 and took it Donnington as it was and I think best I got out of it was 1:28ish in dry national lap. Then the last time I took it which was with 80% mods I did I got it down to 1:21 on less sticky tyres (super sports) unfortunately I never took it with the new diff and about 50kg less weight or tried stickier tyres but it’s safe to say it would have been around 1:18ish

I think the Yaris might be great stock so will enjoy it stock and I’ll see if Litchfields will lend me their car as I know Ian and I also know Curtis who designed the Nitrons for the car as he is a mate from the iOS Powerstation days and his uncle works at Kingston so should be able to sort a nice discount on the kit fitted at Litchfields for me. :)

100% agree with this. They all seem a little.....GR Tax heavy at the moment. For what is essentially a cat back.

I think proper geo might be the best first step to make sure she is set up properly. Not even going to touch the power for a good while, I still think 260bhp in my MPS is more than sufficient and never feel lacking so I doubt I'll need more power straight away.

Mine still hasn't gone into build

Some of those exhausts certainly are pricy, for the titanium ones I could understand somewhat but what some are charging for a straight through pipe and back box beggars belief.

Its the hot new thing thing and you always get a bit of a pump in prices, I see Cusco have released some clutched differentials today, the price of those is also  compared to what I put in my Mazda, still, it's where I'd be looking for a hillclimb spec car.

So many companies rushing to get out all the tuning mods, desperate for our cash. Amazed at how many people are ordering and buying up parts before they even get the car.
I'm not against modifying, my RS has it's fair share, but they were done after I got to know the car and decided what I wanted to change or improve. In my view people are rushing in to mod just for the sake of it and because parts are there. A lot of this stuff won't have had much development or will be fixing a "problem" the GRY doesn't have!

The GT86 is the same, exhaust etc are comically expensive and they bumped the price even higher after a few years.

I wouldnt fit Nitrons for road use. On the Lotuses at least they are really harsh.

At this rate, a bone stock GR Yaris will probably hold value extremely well as it sounds like there will only be about 4 of them :p

Why would people think low volume bespoke “hand made” tuning parts would be cheap? Not seen much in the tuning world that’s cheap and worth having ... just part of the cost of running a specialist car, or just leave them stock.

Because most of them will probably give less performance than a powerflow and are probably made out if soft metal at points not full ss and therefore not last as long.

That is just the muffler as well, not a full exhaust. For any power gains you need to change the whole thing and how much is that going to cost...

Some people have said their TRD exhausts have gone rusty as well (on other cars). So the quality of the SS might not be great. A bit of a rip off if so.

i dont think im going to mod mine for a year or two, with everything being so new i want to give it more time for development. hopefully by then thing like exhausts etc will have come down a bit in cost as well.
