Toyota Yaris GR4 4x4 Rally going into production.....

I think I saw someone paid over list for a 3k mile car on the Facebook group. Mad really.

Yeah but waiting list is 2023 and later now with Nio confirmation they will actually get one.

Think the cheaper cars advertised seem to be dealers just advertising the price of a new car but with no actual stock or just forgotten to take the adverts down, the cheapest available cars seem to all be 34k plus, if Toyota pull the plug values will go up more.

Gonna be a huge crash once the deliveries turn up. Global chip shortage and hype is keeping the prices solid for now.

I’m sorry but anything over a year wait for anything other than a custom spec car(think Aston or ad personam Lambos) is silly.

Long waits are pretty normal at moment across several marquee due to shortages and the GR since launch has had a minimum of six months unless your lucky and most have been waiting circa 12 months now.

A crash is unknown on GR if they keep making them then yes absolutely I can see 2-3yr old examples hitting 20-25k but if they stop production to switch over to Corolla then I can see Yaris values holding firm because there is no other modern car like it and probably won’t be again. Anything remotely fun and engaging to drive is moving up in price as fun is coming to end unless battery powered stuff is your thing.

I think the last we heard from Toyota was the waitlist for anyone in 2023 onwards. The longer any disruption to production carries on for pushes them closer I imagine to the rumoured Corolla production.

So they might run out of time in whatever production cycles they have scheduled and no more are made after the end of 2022. Which for the wider car buying enthusiasts is a shame.

It might actually have been my best new car purchase ever when looking at current residuals. It is obviously, half decent to drive as well.

I should probably buy more brand new cars, I've only done it twice and on both occasions depreciation has been minimal, last one was Mustang.

I've got some terrible history with used cars, M3 CSL, purchased at like 27k, sold for like 24-25k a year or so later they were 50k plus lol. My 911 can't remember purchase price but might have been around 35k, sold it 5 years later for late 20's but now it would be 50+. Fingers crossed though times are changing forever as the cars I now own I could sell for more than paid, no intentions of selling any though to be honest, I am sure at somepoint I will when I get fedup of washing, servicing and having to repair them all, lol.

So how is everyone getting on with their Yari's?

Be good to get some good, bad, indifferent views of this cracking little rally rocket now you have had them a while.

5000 miles now mate!

1200 miles running in service (not Toyota, just me been me), so all fluids changes, engine, diffs, gearbox etc, cost £370 at Toyota RRG. Which get it serviced again next month, be about £200.

That is it, MPG on a long motorway run, 35-40mpg depending on how fast, stay at 70-80 close to 40, at around 90 closer to 30. MPG around town and blasting around 20+, long term average is close to 30mpg.

The car is all its cracked up to be, absolutely superb at 7/10 and 11/10. It also drives just like a regular Yaris so when you want to go get some shopping it works fine, so happy to drive at 1-3/10 as well which on some performance hatches they are not.
I know a few people who have partnered them with super cars and also still have them, who also still love it.

Its great for us, because adults can fit in the back, or you can fold down the rear seats, which fold flat and you have quite a large boot, I managed to transport all four Ferrari wheels/tyres in the car to the wheel refurbers, admittedly one wheel was on the front passenger seat.

It is just a cracking car, so versatile and extremely capable, but it inspires a lot of confidence and a few owners are now crashing them in the poorer weather conditions thinking they are invincible.

I am trying to think of bad points but I really cannot, seating position is high, but its fine, its not a sports car its a rally/hot hatch, the mirror position many complain about, mine is raised but its never been an issue, the big tablet in the dash looks funky but again it don't bother me and its functional.

I cannot really fault it, crazy and fun b-road performance, its also pretty damn handy on a circuit too and can be made extremely capable quite easily and its mega cheap to run and comes with a 10yr warranty, what is not to like, also Toyota of mod friendly for those who want to play.

Basically its the car that got hero status before they even got delivered, 2020 crazy year but Toyota seem to be on a role at moment with GR cars, great timing as most manufacturers have moved to EV which are boring but do have their place, Toyota great move, awesome car and people will always be wanting them.

Unsure, as he didnt snap any of my other studs! I checked the rest of the torques when I got home and all seemed to be fine.

Someone else had his snap and all he was using was a cross brace.

Not to great, they are a critical safety component, hopefully its just some people getting a bit carried away or over torquing them by mistake, good Toyota are replacing FOC.

Collected today. 70 plate (Feb 21), 8500 miles, Track pack for less than new list price.

Car is immaculate and comes pre-Chav'd with a QuickSilver valved exhaust which sounds pretty good and quiet (as the car can be) on the motorway.

How much under list did you manage? WBAC still offering £32,700 on ours with 6k on the clock, cost us £33,500 from Toyota and won't be surprised if it goes back above £33,500 next year once Winter passes. :)

Obviously take with a large pinch of salt as different rolling roads give different figures and no before run to see the difference but pretty happy with that figure for a 258bhp car with an exhaust.

Very strong result, but it is common knowledge these cars all tend to produce circa 275ish on rolling roads, its fair to say on a turbo car a decent exhaust will give 10-20HP also, I'd say your car is probably crying out for a tuning box maybe, ONLY DTUK may I advice, Toyota will also fit this brand as well under warranty, suspect you would be around 310-320HP then on same dyno in same conditions. May I ask where you ran the car? Also I've noticed as the miles have gone on mine it now feels stronger.

It is a shame proper tuning is so limited, but SVM I think are running around 415HP now, can only imagine how crazy that must feel in such a small light car.

RE Performance in Swindon. RR was done by previous owner at end of March and I’d guess with 1000 miles or so on the clock as it’s a mid-Feb car.

Few posts on the GR Yaris forum of engines loosening up and performance/economy improving as the miles go up.

No real interest in chasing engine performance as it’s plenty fast enough for me already. I have Fensport pretty local to me so might consider a set of springs depending on what it does to the warranty.

Handling wise I’m not touching a thing, out the box it’s such a damn capable road car and has great comfort too.

If your gonna track it then absolutely as on track the softer setup is a slight issue, car would really benefit from some coilovers and a wider stickier tyre setup like 265’s all round and something like AR1’s, be a pretty impressive track weapon then but in stock form they are incredible on the road and I’m leaving mine as is.

Didn't need much help. I've not seen a single used one for below list price.

Hopefully they don't get swapped between owners and neglected because of the solid residuals as there's a lot of F80/F82 M3/M4 like that. I've seen 2020 cars with 5 keepers  Obviously ragged around and then traded in the second it needs a service and then shifted on to someone else.

Don’t see that happening especially as the servicing is prettt cheap.

I did a running in service (not required) at 1200 miles which consisted of oil change, both differentials oil change and gearbox oil change, essentially all fluids and it cost me like £350.

Took it for its annual service which cost me £180 so all in all they are cheap to service so would be baffling if people move them on because of a £200 service.

All the people I know who got one still have one, just one guy got rid of his because he ordered a second one a few months after ordering the first as he noticed the overs they were fetching so he sold his first one for 38k which his newer one replaced for 34k. Smart really as he enjoyed the car for a year and made 4k for doing so and then took delivery of another at the RRP.

More suitable for people with single or two cars and hence more appeal in that sense.

You are in the 0.01% :p

Hahah I keep considering reducing the fleet, but man maths / reasoning can give solid reasons for keeping them all. :D

458 - Because 458 its just iconic and a total event. Value increasing.
GR - My daily and most sensible, having a boot and rear seats, but shocking that a small hatch is my sensible car, lol. Value holding just about.
Exige - Last of its kind, proper full on drivers car, more unique than the Ferrari. Value increasing.
Spyder - My only convertible and some argue its Porsche best due to hydraulic steering, 1275kg and values are exploding, looking at 10k plus up in one year if the values keep moving so fast. Also cost nothing to run, cheaper than Yaris running wise and appreciating fast.
Vette - Classic car, cost nothing to own, just put petrol in which it drinks fast, value going up. No MOT, Free tax and cheap parts, just 15mpg and can only use E5.
Aston - Kind of weak link, beautiful, sounds incredible but the drive though good is out classed by the others, value on the up.
Emira - If they fetch overs then I will flip it, if not I shall keep it, jury is out on how it is to drive/own as its not arriving until June, if its mind blowing then it will need to fetch 100k or more to flip it.

I have considered maybe selling Aston, Emira and Spyder or Exige, that drops three/four cars and then buy a GT3 RS, the latter for me has been a dream which the 458 caused me to not live that dream as the 458 was more fun as a road car and more of an event. On track the RS will be incredible and mega fast, but now owning an Exige which albeit is more difficult to pedal fast it is somewhat more enjoying on track because it is a lot more involving and it also feels more indestructible than a Porsche at the track and also cost peanuts to run in comparison to a Porsche GT product.

So there you go man maths/reasoning at its finest. :D

I have this thing for the weekend as I am dropping it off for a friend on Monday to have some work done to its bespoke exhaust. I drove it around 140 miles last night, mainly motorway and them local roads I know well for around 5 miles.

7ztL9pE.jpg

This car is running a fully bespoke exhaust and Nitrons (not Ohlins) and feels very very sharp, the roll is significantly reduced. The ride is much stiffer as to be expected, but it makes a very very dynamic car on the right roads, tiring on the wrong ones.

The seats, for me, are still poor. Too short under my leg, lacking in support on the corners, too high (I am long body so also a me issue) and not that comfy BUT, I now get the appeal having driven this one on the right roads (and following 3 of them for 2 days solid). It is VERY fast on tight confine roads and the steering on this car very dynamic and the biggest surprise, love the brake feel.

Gearbox makes me realise (sorry) that I am past the manual thing. Give me paddles now, I've lost the gearbox mojo finally (@Tax Evader you were right) but I still enjoy heal toe, but it feel so sluggish nowadays.

Not a me car still, but I can see why others enjoy them. The way it puts its power down, sticks and moves around are really sorted. Great brakes, great steering (might be helped by Nitrons as it felt better than I recall) and fun on the right roads. This one is boomy at motorways speeds and moves around on cambers so tiring but get it on the right roads, epic fun.

For me as a road car, just leave them stock, its only as a circuit car its kind of weak in the stock circui pack configuration, which is something has surprised me why so many owners seem keen to track them as when it comes to track / circuits the Honda Civic and Renault hot hatches tend to work much better on circuit out the box. The Yaris is far more like the Subaru and Mitsubishi of old, designed to absolutely destroy a British B road and this they do so well.

As a track day car, buy something else or as your pal had done throw on decent coilovers, also fit a wider wheel setup with stickier tyre and throw in a set of bucket seats and then it will be quite a formidable track car. Then add power as it desperately needs a power boost for faster circuits.

Any GR Yaris owners, remember servicing cost are increasing by close to 50% next month.

I've just taken a 3yr service plan out which includes 2x major and 2x interim services for £1130, interest free, so two payment of £200 followed by 30 payments of £24.

Next month same plan will be around £1600, so anyone planning on keeping probably a good idea to take the plan out before the prices change next week.
