Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Good luck to everyone for this year.

I am hoping to make lots of money ££££ :).

Profit for last year was over 10k, so will hopefully double or treble that this year :).

I own almost as much XEL as I do RKH. EO's structure is complex with the fields and production right being split up in various ways. I made some money from them earlier in the year but I'm out of Encore for now.

It isn't known yet how much oil RKH have and I believe they are about to prove that the Sealion discovery is much larger than current stated estimates. I think RKH is a god choice for both long or short term investing.

My other tips for short-term risky punts are SEA (SeaEnergy) and HMV. DYOR and buy+hold until late Jan.

XEL increased 1500% from its lows wow

All year long entertainment media retailer HMV’s double-digit dividend yield had served as a clear indication of what the market thought about the company’s future. With the likes of online retailer Amazon eating rapidly into HMV’s market share and the UK company’s own online offering unable to compete on price with Amazon and countless other competitors (including the supermarkets), the future looks bleak for one of the best known names on the high street.

The company halved its interim dividend in December as first half losses piled up. I would not bet my house on the final dividend being maintained, either. Company management has not been asleep on the job and has seen the competitive threats coming, and has attempted to diversify into live music, but with VAT having risen to 20% and discretionary spending likely to remain subdued while consumers remain concerned about employment prospects, it is not hard to see why HMV lost 66% of its share value last year.

Another company feeling the heat of competition from the internet is Yellow Pages publisher Yell Group, once a proud member of the FTSE 250 but now rubbing shoulders with the small caps.

Its shares fell 63% last year, as the company struggled to make progress while burdened with massive debt. The good news is that the debt is down from more than £4bn in 2009; the bad news is that it is only just below £3bn. Not good for a company with a market capitalisation of £342m and projected sales for the year to 31 March 2011 of £2.1bn.

CNR posts great JORC results, and the share price tanks. Loads of sells, wtf were people expecting? Gold nuggets the size of footballs encrusted with orbiting silver moons as far as the eye can see?

Here's to this recovering later today, and this is just some MM SP molestation. :(

SP molestation really cheeses me off, you could be doing everything right but the SP still tanks, kinda like my MTV situation at the moment someone seems to have been selling a large holding bit by bit over the past month to keep the price down.

A) Short Termers
B) People who were in it because it was rising
C) Speculators who 'Buy the rumour, sell the news'
D) MM's messing around to try and shake holders out.

I am holding for a recovery.

The results weren't that great - 880k-odd of practically-worthless Inferred resources, worth only around £10m, so the share is recovering the recent speculative rise.

Of course within the release is a note that for technical reasons they couldn't upgrade to Indicated what they expected they could, so yeah in time it'll come back and fly upwards - lots to do, exciting, and all that jazz :D

Nice day for BP after 2 days of strong US performance.

Hit 488p today.

CNR are looking like a top up for me. People just selling on news and looking for the next speculative rise. Will rebound tomorrow I would expect

This is true. OTC when compared to CNR are expecting much more than 880k which CNR announced. Also, OTC have over 650k+ at the moment as well as a ton of silver and other metals (inferred is looking good) and are worth 2.8p as opposed to CNR's 9p. They are over valued on current results and this is why the SP has dropped.

OTC, HER, KEFI, and EDL all look interesting as well as CNR.

So many miners, so little spare cash.... :/

What websites do you guys use to buy/sell your shares? What would you say the minimum amount of capital is required to make trading the stockmarket a worthy venture?

Cheers.

CNR SP 11p, bid+ ask at 8.5/9p. Err.

edit - ah there you go, back to 8.5p.

Does anyone know why this happens? Is this more MM SP manipulation to trigger auto sales etc..?
