RE: Utd's midfield issues.

Who else is there that would slot in? Schweinsteiger (sp), Koke, Cesc (before his move was confirmed to Chelsea) and Pogba have all been mentioned but there must be other players around?

Yaya would work but City wouldn't even entertain the idea and I wouldn't trust him not to rock the boat either.

Vidal, Gondogan, or Reus?

Vidal would be fantastic, but highly unlikely.

Gondogan is still injured (and has been for nearly a whole year, so would be very risky indeed) and Reus has just injured his ankle in a wc warm up game last week (and sounded like if he went anywhere it was Barca before the injury)

Looks like Arsenal have missed the chance to sign another former midfielder as David Bentley has retired.

Never fulfilled his potential but I'll always fondly remember him for this:

Just seen David Bentley has retired. Whatever happened to him?

I saw him speaking in a BTSports interview a while back, he was going on about how he never enjoyed playing professional football because of all of the off-the-pitch stuff. He seemed a bit like how Ronnie O'Sullivan is towards snooker and didn't seem to be driven by fame/money/success. He came across well actually.

Ive been seeing euros rather than pounds (but the same amount) which is a bit more palatable.

Personally think you are also doubliing the length of time he would be useful to Utd (if not more). Its also questionable why we would hand a 30 year old (by the time he plays for us) a 4 year contract. 3 at absolute max hopefully and even then I would hope we have viable alternatives within 18 months coming through to replace him (rather than wait for the last 6 months of his contract and suddenly wake up and see who might be available in the next window).

I'm genuinely astonished that people aren't keen on us signing him. You aren't paying for him, I wouldn't worry over relatively small amounts of money (to a club of our size).

If we signed him, I've no doubt he'd be fine for at least 3 seasons, worst case scenario, 2. The main priority will be getting back into the top 4 next season, if we miss out on it again it would be very bad news, so I have absolutely no problem with short term fix players. It will give us time to sort out proper targets as part of a longer term plan.

He isn't the perfect signing (that would be Vidal), but he's not too far off. I doubt we'll even get him anyway, but we have to hope. :p
