**** me Southampton are seriously generous this window

:D

At least he'll actually get games this year...

On a serious note though, the gutting of Southampton makes it a prime target for big clubs looking to loan out young players who are currently on the boarderline between Premiership and Championship quality. It wouldn't surprise me to see another couple of players heading there from Chelsea and elsewhere. It's obviously beneficial to Southampton as well - means they can spread their rebuilding efforts over a couple of seasons, rather than rushing to fill every position by Sept 2nd.

I could have sworn there was some kind of rule that you could only have one loan from an EPL rival, might well have imagined it though lol

-edit - sleep depravation is getting to me, ignore lol

Great piece of business by the club to sign Lukaku, £7m upfront with £5m a season until payments done. We need to go out there now and sign one or two more, but I feel we've got quite the squad of players now.

Goalkeepers

Joel
Howard

Defenders

Hibbert,
Jagielka,
Baines,
Distin,
Coleman,
Stones,
Alcaraz

Midfielders

Gibson,
McGeady,
Oviedo,
McCarthy,
Besic,
Barry,
Barkley,
Osman,
Pienaar

Forward

Kone,
Lukaku,
Mirallas,
Naismith

Have the club advised those payment terms ?

28 million for Lukaku is a laughable price. He had a solid season last season but other then his strength and height im not sure what else he brings. Ive seen him in the flesh twice against a god awful defence and he was utter tripe.

I would want to put a price on Sturridge right now for eg....50mil plus ?

As suspected Lukaku wanted to be 1st choice but didn't want to try to win that right it seems -

Romelu was always very clear in his mentality. He wanted to play for Chelsea but he wanted to be clearly the first-choice striker which, in a club of our dimension, is very difficult to promise to a player.

The attitude is hilarious, he didn't want to "win it the right way", except, he did, he's gone out to other clubs to play more and prove how good he was.

Likewise Chelsea of all clubs has been terrible to drop big names despite woeful performances. Roman is still pushing managers to play Torres when his performances over the past years have been woeful.

Ba had a significantly better goals/minutes ratio than any other Chelsea striker, he had a better goals/minutes ratio than.... Suarez. He was also scoring important goals, but because they spent 50mil on a turd, the turd got played in an attempt for Roman to show everyone Torres wasn't a huge mistake.

The club is at fault here, Ba is significantly better than Torres and has been at every stage in since Torres joined Chelsea, yet he barely got a start, Lukaku had no chance at all. Then Chelsea added a new 32million striker. Lukaku's ONLY chance at 25+ starts for Chelsea is to leave, prove he's a great striker and come back. He is doing it the right way, if Chelsea weren't randomly trying to salvage the Torres deal, there might be a chance if he stayed at Chelsea, but not much of one.

So correct me if I'm wrong but Chelsea are struggling to meet their home-grown players quota and they have just offloaded another? Does that mean they now need to buy two more home-grown players and sell another of their foreign players?

They don't need any home grown players, they just can't have more than 17 non home grown players. I have no idea how many over 21 year old non home grown players Chelsea have but they can only register 17 of them, so if they dohave more they'll probably ship one out.

If Lukaku was in the squad they'd be fine but that would mean one of their non-home grown strikers (as Lukaku is a striker) wouldn't make the squad. So that would be Torres you think... however as he's gone now I think the more likely option is to do something with the goalkeepers. At the moment they have 3 non-home grown keepers. Schwarzer, Courtois and Cech. Seems a bit of a waste to me to use 3 of your slots for keepers.

Chelsea paid nearly 20 mill for lukaku when they bought him. 28 milkion isn't cheap but are they going to find a better striker who would sign for them and scores virtually 1 in 2 and could be worth 40 million after a couple of good seasons?

There's only so many michus and odemwingies out there

I don't normally take notice of newspaper reports, but when they appear on BBC Sport, there's usually some substance to it...

Please be true

Metro reporting he's already had some form of medical

Yeah it is, but BBC Sport usually ignore most gossip on the Sportsday feed unless they have reason to believe it's worth posting.

To only go after Strootman in January would be madness. We have a very light midfield quality wise as it is so if Herrera got injured it would turn to complete **** again overnight. Cleverley and Fletcher would make baby jesus cry.

Couple that with the fact Roma don't want to sell Strootman and if Van Gaal is so desperate for him they will take us to the cleaners if we get him at all. He isn't anything like as good as Vidal and we would have to wait til January at the earliest.

Oh, and he sustained a pretty serious injury so who knows how he will come back from that / if it will become a long term recurrence because he is a combative midfielder.
