Neither Rojo or Blind is a signing that will improve us very much if at all. Blind is a good all round player by all accounts but isn't particularly special in any position.

We need to be looking at quality first team players that will make a large improvement to our fist XI.

He done alright at the WC but unless I'm losing it he played as a LB there. How good he is as a CB, who knows.

Correct. I think that best case scenario he'd end up like Sergio Ramos, quick and powerful but reckless at times.

Yes, we need a first team (as in finished article) CM and CB primarily, possibly an attacker if it's someone like Di Maria.

People who are as close to world class as you can get... surely the club must know this... get the chequebook out. It's going to end up costing us more if we don't sign them.

If Utd are going to play with 3 at the back then they need numbers just as much as quality. You have 3 senior CBs and all of them are injury prone, you probably need 2 more just to provide cover if you can't sign a first 11 player.

£12m for Shane Long?????

I know we need a striker but damn, one who has scored 4 in 17 for Hull and 22 in 87 for West Brom is not what we need, might as well just promote the youth players for that sort of goal return and save the £12m for a boardroom ****up.

Jesus wept

I don't remember thinking Rojo looked like a big guy when watching the WC, and he seemed to play exclusively LB for Argentina. He'd be decent at LB, I thought he had a good WC, but I really don't see him being right for CB. I can't believe we didn't go for De Vrij or Martins Indi, or even Ron Vlaar. They all looked good for Holland and fitted with LvG's style.

So all the Manchester journalists have clearly been told we want Rojo, Blind and Di Maria. Di Maria is the crucial one, would be a fantastic player to get for so many reasons.

£50m~ is steep but you can't really argue with it... I worry PSG will come back in for him though.

Still think Vidal would be the better signing if his knee is okay, but the club aren't saying much.

Not exactly a transfer, but: http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-F...e-Rooney-named-Manchester-United-captain.aspx

Fletcher as vice-captain surely rules out Vidal then. Not going to be a bit part player. I hope he performs and stays fit...

Dont see that it rules out Vidal at all, although it does make it les likely I suppose

Does seem a strange choice for vc given that even at his best we have still been historically weak in the area he plays - it could be LvG just being a little clever and giving df a psychological lift to an important squad player givem that Vidal isnt fit and if we do get him will have to be careful when and where we play him for a few weeks / months

Lets see where Chicharito ends up as that could be a good indicator

Perhaps I'm putting far too much importance on the role of vice-captain, Frank. I suppose a fair number of teams often have the vice-captain on the bench, or similar.

Di Maria to play where though - he really isnt a wing back even with the undisputed engine he has, and surely they arent going to give him a central role?

Obviosely 4-4-2 as an option is always good but paying out £50 m is indicating he is a definite starter

Not sure. I think if we can make the right signings we'll change system. The current system has never really been LvG's preferred system, he just uses it if he thinks the team is weak in certain areas. No reason we can't use multiple systems either, would be a good idea.

I saw where you were / are coming from, it may just be seniority / length of service kind of thing

Seems strange to use the same formation in every pre-season game only to change back because of one possible signing ( however good that signing is)

Just cant see how we can get the best out of Rooney, RvP, Mata amd Di Maria all together

Also surely 4-4-2 surely also highlights weak defensive midfield where the pure midfield numbers in 3-5-2 aleviates that somewhat.

Agger to Arsenal seems to be picking up a bit of steam, would make sense to replace Vermaelen. Think Agger is injured too so it would be a straight replacement for the physio bench :p
