Like most ideas you have to balance the two sides of their use. People who will use them to circumvent rules and those that would use them legitimately.

Barca will have expected to have Suarez's ban reduced when they bought him I'm sure.

:(

WTF I thought they wanted him for this year so we couldn't have him again  I would have loved him to get a full fit season with us. Fantastic player.

I thought he was quoted as saying he didnt want to come back? Wanted to play for the barce first team for this season etc.

You're probably right about that - having performance related bonuses completely excluded from FFP consideration seems like a giant gaping loophole.
From what I understand it is a huge loophole and that is why we are doing it.
Having Aguero on 150k a week with huge bonuses has to be better for FFP both short term and long term than him on 250k a week otherwise we wouldn't bother surely?
It enables us to move around the cap that UEFA has imposed.

I don't know the ins and outs of it but from my point of view the reason for these new contracts has to be some kind of FFP loophole?

We are reportedly going to break even in the next financial results as well and make a profit from then on.

Until the next big star arrives and potentially has to agree to being paid less than he was on before and "hope" you carry on being a success as a team

If every team does it, then you will be fine - but I just cant see it being a long term solution. Wait until Chelsea, Man Utd or who ever want to offer 20k+ week more (even if bonuses are £1m less to effectively give the player the same amount)

Of course this will work for every current star (and I guess you could bring in a couple of big stars on "normal " high contracts, and then when they re-sign two or three years later move to this "new" tier of contract - not sure how current players would appreciate this though)

I see what you mean and we will have to see how it goes. You could look at if said player want's to go to Chelsea or utd and get his extra 20k a week rather than working hard to get his bonuses at City then is he really a player you want to be signing?

I think whilst it is good to navigate around the FFP wage cap it is also a good precedent to set, having players on lower basic wage but with bonuses should theoretically mean better performances from said players because they are going to want their bonuses. Despite them being probably simple and easy to achieve eg goals, clean sheets and appearances.

back to transfers, if Reus does go to Atleti, that is incredible.

Breaking: Cadena COPE say Marco Reus has agreed to join Atleti. They say it's a done deal. #ReusRojiblanco

I still find it hard to believe, but if it's true, then good on Atletico. Some great business they've done this summer. Griezmann, Reus and Mandzukic will be a damn good front line. I hope they can continue to compete with the Spanish big boys.

I must admit I thought it would be tougher for United to sign players outside of the CL but not this hard with a recent history like theirs. I guess big players post 25 just don't want to take a risk being out of the CL anymore and it's not nailed on they will get back in. I can see why they would think it, it's bigger than the world cup these days and they just follow the money and endorsements. Not that United need Reus anyway.

Two keepers one massively highly rated youngster and an experienced keeper for a great price who had a pretty damn good season. An experienced fullback for about half of what they got for Luis, a couple of youngsters. They've really been buying well. None of this lets get whoever the press randomly focus on the previous year thus now completely over priced players. Even Griezman who was a little like that, they got for a good price, no stupid 50mil for one of the best up and coming winger/strikers in europe.

I don't even think it's that, we're either making a horrible mess of negotiations or refusing to pay what people want. :(

Disaster so far, but still salvageable. I refuse to believe we don't at least have several deals in the works/potential targets.

Shades of last summer though...

Most teams had managers who were in charge for the previous season, knew every player in the team, every player in the youth team, reserves, viewed footage on players who were out on loan, etc. 90% of the league spent last season deciding who was good enough and who they hoped to replace during last season. As such they were spending all of last season thinking about who they wanted to bring in and working on deals to offload players behind the scenes.

LvG was doing this thing called, being a manager of a national team that was involved in the world cup till not at all long ago.

Mourinho has had over a year to determine who to replace and find targets. LvG has had what 5 weeks or something in reality.

On the plus side, we should have some players ready to sign for the start of next summer with the work we have put in this window...

It is getting a little ridiculous now. You can try and pass it off as a manager wanting to assess his players but there is no way in hell that anyone thinks that United wouldn't benefit massively from a world class CM and a couple of top CBs. Even if all our players play better than they have ever done in their lives and don't get injured, there are better players out there.

Thats ignoring the very obvious fact that we have almost no cover in vital positions let alone cover that is any good. Either we are penny pinching, players that we wan't don't want to sig or LvG is a nutter.

I would love to know what actually happened transfer wise last year. Were players saying no? Were we not offering enough? Teams much smaller than us in stature are buying top players in relatively short spaces of time from when they appear to court them yet we seem to dither for ages.

one word woodward

Yeah, the transfer stuff is under embargo until tonight. I hope the guys mentioned some names to him...

Vidal is back in full training now and was asked by reporters earlier if he's staying at Juventus and what his future is, and he said: "My future is to train well."

He could easily have killed this by now.
