Put it this way, pretty much the only rumours that have been true this window about United have been the depressing ones. This would fit with that rather nicely.

Im sure Martinez (who has been linked with making an offer last season and this window) is laughing his head off

At the end of the day LvG was never rumoured to be looking at him to leave.....

lol, your faith has been completely destroyed hasn't it? :D

Its literally completely gone. There is absolutely no good reason why we should not have the best squad in the league and be competing for the CL most seasons with the amount of money we generate as a club and yet after years of neglect we are still not buying top players.

Every other club gets to the top and then adds quality to the squad every season to maintain that position. We just slowly let all the quality ebb away and watch all the best players go elsewhere.

Now now, be reasonable. You don't "just watch" big players move elsewhere - you make enquiries, haggle over the price, then let other clubs slip in with better offers while you ruminate. THEN you watch them go to other clubs :p

i do see your point, but no need to go full running man :D

Thanks for twisting the knife :):(

If the rumours are true we have haggled over " a few million" and lost on numerous big signings this summer , Im going to be furious

Nick Powell to leave (probably on loan) before the end of the window

I would be stunned if it is true. Last season was a disaster and we ended up overpaying for Felliani by about 10m. There was even an investigation into last summers transfer window.

Losing out on 30m worth of CL football revenue again would make the saving of a few million on players irrelevant. Nothing about what we are doing makes any sense unless we simply don't have the money to spend that we claim.

Unless the Glazers have literally taken out £200m+ for their own pockets, there HAS to be money (EPL + CL prize money + Nike + Chevy deal + Aon and other sponsers has to equal £200m +)

I can't remember who but I saw somebody on here mention this the other week (and it was something rumoured at Arsenal with Kroenke too); there might be cash at the club but it's possible that factors outside the club are preventing them from spending it. It's possible that as part of agreements with the Glazers other business's, Utd are required to keep their cash balance at a certain level as the Glazers shares in Utd are either directly or indirectly being used as security on other borrowings.

Regarding Utd's spending in general, I read somewhere that in the last 5 transfer windows Utd have spent more net than any other club except PSG. Utd are spending cash, they've just a) spent it badly and b) not selling to enable them to spend more in gross terms.

You have to remember that in the IPO prospectus Utd said that they only expected to spend approx £20m per year net. They've actually spent a fair bit more since then though.
Rumours were sending Ibe out on loan tbh thought we would give him a chance this season tbf

It's a tricky one. He needs to start playing at least semi regularly but with Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana and Markovic competing for just 2 (or 3 if we use Coutinho/Lallana in midfield) positions, the likelihood is he won't even make the bench unless we have 2 of those injured. That said, vs Southampton we had 2 of those injured and he did make the bench.

We have to weigh up his long term development against our short terms needs. Personally I think it's probably for the best if he went out on loan. I doubt he'd start more than 5 games (including cup comps) and maybe another 5 sub appearances if he stayed.
Balotelli being linked with Liverpool again this morning. Loan with option to buy for around £18m.

Personally I'd take him. No denying his talent and presumeably would only be a backup to Sturridge, so seem like ability to cause disruption would be limited.

I don't think he'd be happy as simply cover for Sturridge. If we were to sign him or anybody of his stature then I guess we'll see plenty of the 4-4-2 diamond again this season.

As for Balotelli specifically, I'd happily take him on loan with an option to buy but also the ability to send him back in January too. He's a very good player, not a great one and his attitude makes him a gamble. The only way signing him on a permanent deal makes sense is if he lives up to his potential and goes on to become a great player, then you put up with his nonsense, or if he grows up, then you've got a very good player that you don't have to worry about. Whether he'll do either? I don't hold high hopes.

That's a shame, I'm a big fan of Nick Powell. I watched him completely run rings around us (Torquay) in league 2 a few seasons ago, probably the best performance I've ever seen from a player in that league. I was hoping to see him in the PL this year after doing so well for Wigan, even just against the rubbish teams, he'd be a good asset to have particularly for the cup games.

Manchester United will find it considerably more difficult to sign 'top, top' /Arry Redknapp mode off, players if they fail to get European football again this season.

They have already spent several summers treading water, this looks to be no different. Rebuilding is not happening, papering over the cracks is what is happening.

European football is absolutely vital.

.

Good point about the IPO (im presuming you mean the original not the one that released another 5% a few weeks ago) however this was well before the new TV deal which naturally made everything a lot more expensive.

£20m today barely gets one reasonable back up player, let alone a world class player.

Its also pretty unusual having to replace 2/3 of the outfield XI in one go

Havent heard of the cash level issue - but it certainly seems plausible (if the level the Glazers had to keep in the bank was £100-150m ) which appears insanely high considering the value of the IPO/ % club thats on the market, but who knows

I agree - however most of his time at wigan he spent as a striker which is exactly where Utd DONT need him playing so from Utd's pov it was a wasted opportunity.
