Tor-Kristian Karlsen who has been the Sporting Director (then CEO) at Monaco as well as a Chief Scout for several teams really rates him.

Do absolutely see the sense in Man Utd moving for Marcos Rojo: athletic, good size, mobile, intelligent, left footed, ideal for a back 3

Considering what's available on the market & no CL football, Marcos Rojo is a very decent (late transfer period signing) for Man Utd (1/3)

IMO he possesses the right attributes to play as one (the left) of three centre-backs, can fully see the logic in signing him (2/3)

Very few (obtainable) top class centre-backs out there & specifically wanting a left-footed one narrows down the search even further (3/3)

^^ looks to me like he rates him as a good left footed option for a back three. It could equally be read add LvG having backed himself into a corner with his choice of formation.

Read: he's the best they can get :p.

From a limited number of options. I'd rather him than Vermaelen - not many others about.

Official offer for Gaitan has been placed according to the Portuguese "Record"

another meh signing - could be promising , but could also be another Nani lol (I just hope we havent offered nearly £40m that his release clause is)

Most likely BS, we're always linked with him.

formation wise, having him in there means we could play 4-3-3 or 3-5-2.

or

smalling-evans-rojo
young-herrera-fletch-shaw
mata
rvp-rooney

...as examples.

Either of those are unlikely to strike fear in to the hearts of any other top 7 team.

about the best we've got tbh :p

The second one is, but I'd swap Rafael for Young (Rafael is often excellent especially against weaker teams) and maybe Jones for Smalling. The defence needs to gel but there is promise there, Evans when fit is a very good defender. Injuries are the big concern.

Fletcher is the weak link for me. I think I'd prefer Song on loan to Fletcher or Cleverley... just shows how bad the situation is. We've really got to get someone in there... anyone.

like i say, just examples.

but yes, i'd take a dog turd over fletch/clev, but as it stands that's what we have to work with...

I laughed my face off! :p

The arsenal side they played was seriously underwhelming too... Djourou, Traore, an underperforming Ramsey and Arshavin, Coquelin....

So what happened last season when we did have CL football?

Moyes. David Moyes.

This season transfer shambles should show there's more to it than Moyes or LVG. Clearly they are just handing targets and the deals are not getting done at a higher level than the manager. It's not like Fergie was getting more than the odd player either in recent years of "world class" level.

If LVG last's 18 months I will be truely amazed.

Oh well United fans, not long until the January transfer window and some post xmas misery. I still think it was a massive mistake to be so happy to not get in the uefa league or whatever it's called, just to get the younger players more experience and game time.

So much pressure on rojo as the great hope, better get lot's of popcorn in for this season :D

We're just completely unbalanced. We have player like Januzaj who we can't really fit into the team but in defence and central midfield we're barely mid table quality. Either massively unproven, ridiculously injury prone or just way, way past their best.

Yep, if you end the transfer window and have not added at least 3 more decent players then the fans after last season have every reason to go mad. It's not like all the signs and evidence of what was needed wasn't there and the lies about how much money was clearly that, lies.

LVG should walk away if the window ends and nothing better than rojo has been added.

You still have Kagawa though.
He's better than Hazard don't you know, I'm surprised neither of your last 2 managers haven't been able to fit him in to the side.

Well our last manager was a banana and Fergie while he had many strengths clearly had no clue how to use that sort of player so he just stuck him on the wing. He's done well pre season and I guess him and Mata will play that role this season. Mind you Van Gaal bought Fellaini on game one so...
